I am a German and i am in deep distress of what is going on. Seeing such a person of wealth behave like this, abusing all of his power, makes me tremble in fear. I am seriously afraid of him. I listened to many of Hitlers speeches, i read Victor Klemperers diaries and looked at the material from Nürnberger Prozesse after World War 2. Since 25 years i soak in every bit of WW2 material and am very keen on east block politics and history too. What happens right now is actually the same like a 100 years ago but to a much greater extend in terms of people radicalising. Why? Because it happens all over the world and mostly in nations that where very democratic and a role model for man others like the USA. Media and brainwashing got so much more advanced. It is literally what Goebbels (Reichspropagandaminister of Germany) has dreamed of and so many of the techniques they (Elon, Trump, AfD in Germany etc.) use are literally the same. To me the political agenda of new far right populism is a nightmare. Senator Sanders is so smart, like Carl Sagan smart... and the world gets Trump/Musk. I am actually in tears. EDIT: Thx for the mostly positive comments and the solidary likes. I appreciate this. To the trolls, bots and negative comments: thank you too, since you quite elegantly prove my points by unwittingly making a mockery of yourselves with every single aggressive post of yours. We have our own german billionaires who finance right wing extremists (von Finck Jr helped building the AfD for example) . They're just way more subtle.
It is terrifying seeing the ripple effects from USA to across the world. I never never NEVER dreamed in the United States of America someone associated with the President would do a nazi salute so openly and with so much vigor and intention on live television to a live crowd for everyone to see, and the worst part is the crowd continued to cheer, and ever since all the republicans are denying what Musk did. You can bet your ass whether he meant it or not, real nazis saw that and felt empowered and emboldened.
I am german as well and I feel every single word you are saying here. It is frightening and I honestly did NOT expect we would be heading this way again in my lifetime.
Also German. I get the same feeling now. Even people i know start shouting out this populist nonsense. Really feels like the World is changing and not for the good...

Let me say as a German: I found the conversation between Alice Weidel and Musk very embarrassing. She spoke like a little fangirl. She spoke as if she was speaking for us Germans and I find that insulting.
A question: do Germans genuinely believe that Hitler was a communist? I don't want to generalise everyone in one box, but most Germans I've met are quite well educated, and to acritically believe such an ignorant and revisionist statement is ridiculous in my eyes
@@Fronko_ No, the vast majority of us do absolutely not believe that Hitler was a communist. In fact, most Germans find Alice Weidel's claim somewhere between infuriating and ridiculous.
No, let’s say it like that everyone that claims hitler was a communist or his party was, knows exactly what they are doing, and ridiculous and dangerous to do that but as some other smart people said, a lie only has to be said often enough, well than one day it becomes the truth. That’s what they are doing here and in other places, and people fall for it …
@ That is the language of the political right: in this case, it is meant to trivialize Hitler. It is like Musk's Hitler salute: many say "he didn't mean it like that!" The salute is trivialized. Its evil symbolism is taken away.
The thing is the big corps have too much influence for 1 voice to make a difference; it's much easier for them to witchhunt your message and gaslight the population into thinking you're wrong than passing the right message along to enough people to tip the scale in your favour. Look into Jeremy Corbyn's time in politics if you want a good example
Absolutely true. Every single elected Republican is only concerned about keeping their political job. They're spineless, immoral, unethical, greedy & corrupt. The future of this nation is being totally destroyed by THEIR inability to do the right thing. If they collectively stood up to the Felon in Chief, he'd be powerless. These feeble, weak, submissive GOP fools don't even care about the future for their children & grandchildren & are willing to sacrifice everything for an embarrassing, bumbling, narcissistic fool. Musk only has power as long as he stays in the Felon's good graces. Hopefully, that bromance will be short-lived. Steve Bannon, another creepy one, has it out for him- hopefully there are others as well since Musk's plans don't align with the rest of the MAGA ideology.
And thats literally how Hitler and the nazis came to power, due to the incompetence and compliance of the democratic parties at that time, Im afraid history might repeat itself
Dude, you say it like it's a new thing. This is democrats crying foul despite doing it themselves. If somebody isn't pulling their weight, then the party finds a candidate within the jurisdiction to replace them, it's how it's always been done. Now it's suddenly a "weapon". This is part of the problem with why the left lost the election so badly, they cry foul about things that they themselves have perpetrated, it's created public distrust with them. Just like how democrats and leftists right after the election started complaining about how unfair it is that Trump has all these billionaires on his side. Is it unfair that they have billionaires on their side, or is it unfair that they have more billionaires on their side than the left? Do you really think the public is stupid enough to think that this is the first time billionaires and business elite have had influence on an election? Both sides are equally as bad as each other, both sides play the same games and the elite of both parties generally don't care about the results. The general public now understand this, so instead of voting for the "morally superior" candidate (because there isn't one) they voted for the one that made more sense.

Big problem in the EU is how most countries handled the refugee crisis to be honest. Instead of doing it the right way the politicians refused to acknowledge the growing complaints of their own people leading to more and more people shifting to the right. Everything that's happening now is the fault of leftist/centrist parties lack of standing up for their own people. Add to that the whole culture war going on, covid, inflation,... and you have the perfect setup for far right parties to gain popularity. Really hope moderates can swing the pendulum back but I doubt it. Rough times ahead.
The worst part is that even in Germany the two biggest parties are Neo-Nazis and the Union, which really likes the AfD. Like yeah, if (probably) the SPD doesn't suddenly get enough votes to beat them, Nazis could likely be in power again and I can't see the SPD winning.

Elon Musk left SA at the end of apartheid, 36 years ago in 1989. South Africa NEVER had any connection with Nazism. 334 000 South Africans, both black and white, volunteered to fight with the British in WW2. 10 000 died fighting Nazis, and Jews were very welcome in SA - both before and after WW2. Here is the difference between Nazism and Apartheid: Germany invaded 20 countries. South Africa never invaded a single other country in its 600-year colonial history. The Nazis killed 62 million people in 6 years. South Africa killed between 30-50 Black people per week during the State of Emergency from 1985 - 1989. Even in its 600-year colonial history, the figure is less than 300 000. Elon Musk is a bad, foul, disgusting person. As a german, the development is really concerning. Discussions with opposing sides are more and more heated, lesser open to actual arguments and tears families apart. Already.
Tribalism is the new norm in political discourse and social media is a major cause; when everything you see is naturally echo chambered back at you through algorithms curating what you see to make sure you're most likely to engage with it, you end up furious with those who can't see what you see, failing to see that they think the exact same about you because of what they've been shown. And who tends to be in charge of these kinds of platforms? People like Musk. Who, lest we forget, stripped most regulation and punishment towards those with violent, hateful or disruptive beliefs, and propagated a new age of mis/disinformation on one of the west's most prominent social media platforms. Funny how that was in line with when islamophobia and nationalism in the west seemed to begin to spike upwards.
Also german here. You cant argue with the opposite side. I follow channels and media from left and right. For example under compact videos or under right wing youtuber channels, you cant discuss. Your comment gets immediately deleted. I dont know if its the channel or youtube. But I have the feeling the algorithm feeds these bubbles. You have to keep in mind that AI Bots are now a thing. They can read your comment and interpret them. I think the plattforms use these to generate echo chambers.

He has the audacity to jeopardize our democracy, the democracies of the world by supporting far right extremists and then proudly gives a Nazi salute to the American flag and people on Inauguration Day. I am beyond disappointed, I am mortified that this man holds so much power. Until this week, I had only high hopes for all of his companies as I believed their success would be good for the USA. The thing about democracy is that elon SHOULD have no more influence on the process than any other citizen of a country. He does though, and that's the problem we have right now. People feel like it doesn't matter what they vote for, an elite will decide their futures for them. That sounds very similar to the beginning of every revolution and period of chaos in human history.
The fact that Musk supports the AFD in Germany (where I live) frightens me, the only hope for me is, that German campaign finance laws are very strict (not like the clusterfuck in the US), so Musk can not just shower the AFD with money, which would be disasters since just a little of Musks money would outspend any of the German parties. Also the Hitler Gruß is forbidden by law in Germany and very much still a taboo in society, so his performance during the inauguration will actually hurt the AFD if they still associate with him. While the AFD is far right they are still trying not be seen as full on Nazis since that is still damaging and would not appear to most voters in German politics due to our history.

@@Fronko_ No, the vast majority of us do absolutely not believe that Hitler was a communist. In fact, most Germans find Alice Weidel's claim somewhere between infuriating and ridiculous.

That’s what they are doing here and in other places, and people fall for it …
Nobody cares if you're insulted
@ That is the language of the political right: in this case, it is meant to trivialize Hitler. It is like Musk's Hitler salute: many say "he didn't mean it like that!" The salute is trivialized. Its evil symbolism is taken away.
Also, the big problem is spineless politicians who bend in fear of being replaced in primaries, intead of standing against the oligarchy.
That's what politicians have always done. Change only comes briefly soon after they see red...
Absolutely true. Every single elected Republican is only concerned about keeping their political job. They're spineless, immoral, unethical, greedy & corrupt.
Why can't everyone see Musk for what he truly is when it is RIGHT there in your face

Elon Musk left SA at the end of apartheid, 36 years ago in 1989. It means that there are Americans who agree with his statement. Groups associated with white supremacy support Trump, they’re cheering him on. He comes from a family that was pro Apartheid in South Africa, he immigrated to the USA, the land of Democracy and the melting pot of the world and became the wealthiest man on the planet which would NOT have been possible without the help of huge government subsidies and contracts. Unfortunately, if that success means giving more power to Musk, I can’t see how it would benefit the USA. He’s such a completely different public figure now than what was presented many years ago. Wealthy people should not be allowed to get involved in government.
That's how the USSR operated! It was called the dictatorship of the proletariat... But as time went on, and corruption became prevalent, workers only ruled in name.
Poor people should not be allowed to get involved in government!
@@damien86 why not? The difference is that rich people represent a tiny percentage of the population while poor people represent a large percentage of the population. Rich peoples interest in politics is usually benefiting rich people. Poor people should not be sucked in to voting for rich people who fool them into thinking that they care about the poor. While I don't agree that rich people should be banned from entering politics, I don't think that rich people should be allowed to influence other's political campaigns with their wealth.
@ With poor people you get marxism, communism and other forms of violent hissy fits. When rich people influece politics they win and that usually means the economy wins as well. As a german, this concerns me crazy. In Germany, we have been taught at school and in society what our country has done over the past centuries, how we have messed it up, we have learnt to understand, to open up, to support, so this isn't happening ever again. This is deeply rooted in us. We were raised to do better. Don't be like the US.

The thing about democracy is that elon SHOULD have no more influence on the process than any other citizen of a country. He does though, and that's the problem we have right now.
The stricter campaign finance laws only go so far, Musk has a media platform he can devote millions to promote the AFD -- millions of bots!
Europeans are still asleep unfortunately. 20 Minuten from Switzerland for example published an article of 'experts' that claimed it was not the Hitler Gruss. And the swiss in there believed it via willful ignorance. Puttin their head into the sand as my country always does.

It’s like a step by step test to see how far he can get away with the currently unacceptable. If he is not rejected now, history could judge us badly.
Well he’s already gotten away with it.
I saw their weakness today though. DOGE vs Donald. Donald picked Elon's enemy OpenAI vs Xai for the computer chip technology. Musk didnt like he isnt in charge. Started picking fights on X over it. Thats the weakness of Super Villains. Cabals fail because each one of them wants to be the Master.
Trump will be looking to play Musk off against the other billionaires, and not just give Musk what he wants. Trump could attack Musk's wealth with tariffs and rule changes if he felt so inclined. Everyone who sucks up to Trump ends up humiliated.
Hence the Rule of Two: “Always two there are. No more, no less. A master and an apprentice.” Before this rule the Sith would repeatedly devour themselves in Star Wars lore.
I knew it wouldn’t last. Donald can be loyal to NO ONE, and definitely not a spazzy freak like muskolini.
