    The Mako has served its purpose, it allowed you to experience boat ownership (you have to love it to like it), it took you out and brought you back, it allowed you to fish many different areas, it provided you a starting point to understand the features/options you need in your next boat. Storage and DRY storage, more space (Clickbaiters is growing), rod holder options, the appreciation for an easy to use, easy to launch boat. I'm excited for you and can't wait to see what you get. My two cents worth: 1) a built in fish box ( a cooler takes up space), 2) tackle storage that is out of the way, 3) adequate access to the bilge area for repairs (I learned that one the hard way), 4) a raw water/saltwater washdown pump and hose with a sprayer. Best of luck.

    I wasn't expecting to make a guest appearance in this one lol! I still can't believe Mako hasn't reached out to you guys, that blew me away when I first heard ya'll talk about it! The old Mako is definitely limited on space, was a neat balancing act at times with the 4 of us and all of our gear, I remember thinking I was gonna knock Beach Bum off at one point and then Brant tripping over something another time that day! Def gotta weigh your options though and make the best good & informed decision that you can once all the pros and cons are weighed out!

    I own MPS 17 also and everything you mentioned has also been my struggle. In addition to no storage my next issue is seating. When we go to the sandbar as a family, its very difficult to not be stressed out due to the lack of seating. We have used 2 bean bags that we placed near the stern but we are just to close. Also would recommend adding a cleat to the front of the boat to tie off the 8anchor. Speaking of anchors, the front anchor locker is a joke. Way too small for the type of anchor needed to properly secure your boat. I am also contemplating selling mine and getting something better suited for fishing and sandbar life. Thank you for your honesty.

    Not sure if you'd consider an aluminum boat, but Excel makes some nice aluminum bay boats. Their flagship 230 bay pro would work for payload and stability and still able to get in to skinny water. I own an Excel bay pro 203 and really like it. An added plus is they have built in accessory rails on the gunnels to mount rod holders and other things.

    Having watched all the reviews up to this point(following you on the one year review and dropped back and caught up with the others) you have always had love for the MAKO.
    Point 1- a little small for the bays when the wind is blowing and choppy.
    Point 2 - great to get up in the creeks and winter fish.(trout, reds and stripper)
    Point 3- with the whole crew wanting to fish space is tight.
    So it is a balancing act up size too much and the creek and winter time fishing will take a hit.
    Whatever you and Sarah decide y’all will knock it out of the park.

  • @valkyrie6926
    @valkyrie6926 2 года назад +1

    First off. If you get rid of it, will you miss it, or be glad it’s gone? There is NO perfect boat! Just perfect for you! Meaning, all the good out ways the bad! Also, either get the middle live well working or seal it off and use it as dry storage or something else! All boats are gonna have something that ya don’t like or ya wish was different! And as far as the manufacture, as long as its (the boat) not leaking or falling apart! Then fix it or change the things you can, or don’t like. People are just people, and people run the company, some company's are better, means better quality of people running it. Some are willing to do better than others! Hope this makes some sense!

    23’ may not be the size you’re looking for but I’d give Key West a look see. They have many models to choose from and I think they are a North Carolina boat. They also are a very good company and stand behind their boats.

    Hard to believe it might go away, but definitely understand. BTW there is a product called T-9 Boeshield that should remove the rust, and prevent any future corrosion. So hard to get that perfect mix of a boat that allows you to get into tight areas, and would be a stable platform for offshore. Hate to suggest it, but maybe there is a need for 2 boats? The Mako stays to fill the back water needs, and the new one let's you get out into the bay and offshore regardless of conditions. Decisions decisions!!1

    I agree it is a hard decision for a predominantly inshore fisherman. I keep thinking it would be nice to have a boat that you can take offshore from time to time. But you sacrifice going in skinny water with a deeper hull. But lack of storage can be a huge bummer. If you are staying with flats boats or technical poling skiffs your options are somewhat limited. Not to mention the financial factor. I can't justify spending $100K or more on a boat. Best of luck in your search. It might be kind of neat to narrow it down to one or two boats and let the viewers decide. But in the end it is you alls money not ours. I'm not sure if too many folks on the coast has ever heard of a Reelfoot lake boat (look it up and get a laugh!). But my point is, if CMR was in Kentucky, and shot videos for a solid year in one of these (it's basically a canoe with a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine in it), there would be MANY people who would suddenly know of them.

    Sell it! I've had a 16' Mako for two months and I'm ready to sell due to the lean stability and draft. The beam is too narrow and that causes a serious lean. If there are two people in the boat, both cannot stand on the same side without focus on not falling out of the boat. Another reason I want to sell is the draft. Mako claims the boat drafts in 8" of water, that might be true with an empty hull and no motor. This boat drafts at 16" and trimmed at 14". Boat requires a jack plate to go skinnier and I don't see spending anymore money on a boat with extremely limited storage, small fuel tank, a plastic center console and bait well that doesn't work.
    On the other hand, it's a great little boat for one person.
