Home of Richard Ashcroft and the verve. I agree its really Lancashire, never thought of it as greater manchester tbh. Always reminds me of Oldham, think its the buildings. Used to work in Ince.
I've been trying to find out about the little hatches in Wigan pubs that would serve kids pop and crisps in the evening. My husband used to call them "The outdoor." He was a Wiganer. Does anyone remember these? I recall them in the mid 1970s, but I lived in UpHolland, and although we had one in the Stanley Arms pub we never called them by a specific name. Are there any other names they were called by, does anyone remember?
Wigan and Manchester were taken out of Lancashire since early seventies. Lancashire was too big and elected Labour majorities. Ted Heath made the split to get some Tory control.
Vintage Wigan love it.
Im glad you like ir.
"There's nothing wrong with Wigan. Well, there is but we won't talk about it." Jasper Carrott.
