- This is my first macro adventure video where I go out to a location and see what I can find to photograph. I've tried so hard to get a good (in my eyes) bee photo and didn't expect to do it on this macro adventure photo walk.

What do you think of this video and would you like to see more Macro Adventures? Also my wife filmed a lot of the footage and it was her first time using a DSLR camera for video, a good start I think :)
Definitely, Your wife did a fantastic job and the pair of you made me smile as it reminded me of me and my partner. Great video :D
@@robgbsn She did do a great job, I'm waiting for her to be free again so we can do more videos :)
Hi Stewart Thanks for your comments, I have not noticed any reflections, but will take a closer look next time, regards Welshman 2081
Great video Stewart. A rapid retreat from the bees nest! Good work by your wife on video.
Thank you David, she did do a great job :)
Great video. I like that you showed the bloopers and not only the hand full of good shots.
Macro photography is 80% bloopers and 20% shooting. Keep up the good work :)
Thank you :)
Stewart, amazing pictures!
Great video, loved it. Cracking bee hive shot.
Thank you :)
Would you say that flash is a “must” for outdoor macro.
Hahaha nice teleportation and video too.
Thank you :)
Loved the video. Those pesky bees, so difficult to get a good picture so well done!
Thank you.
Well done. Both technical and inspiring at the same time.
Thank you Rich :)
The bee hive photo is fantastic! Love it :) Great Video!
Tank you :)
Great job, can't wait to see more adventures
Thank you :)
Love it! Nice bit of humour at the end.
Thank you :)
Yes do more adventures outdoors! As this is the best way to get the best and most natural results. Yes I"ve been stung and missed a lot of shots but it's better than being inside.
Of yes :)
Love the adventures !! Keep them coming !!! Great tips and you crack me up !! Thanks !!
Thank you :)
I would like more like this, not many vloggers do macro in the field, it is difficult so you did really well, thanks.
Thank you for watching :)
Well done. It’s one thing to do macro in a highly controlled environment, but quite a challenge to shoot living subjects macro in the field. Would love to see more in this series, with practical tips emphasis.
Thank you Paul, more will be coming :)
Yes! Do more like this :) I find it near impossible to film myself, so I just show as much as I can about what I'm taking pictures of. It's fun making these videos. Great photos and fun adventure, well done! I know the exuberance of getting a bee shot just right! Haha! Feels great!
Thank you, I'm sure to do more videos like this :)
Absolutely love your outdoor adventures!!
Thank you :)
@@StewartWoodArt you're welcome..
Cool change Stewart. Your audience should enjoy seeing you outside your normal element.
It looks like they do so more outdoor videos coming soon!

Really like this video, and the fails, because that's how real life is you can't do anything without fails. Keep up the good videos, and keep teaching us something. Much appreciated
Thank you Alex :)
More please! Great video Stewart! If you ever run into any wild orchids would be great to see how you photograph those!
We'll see what happens :)
Excellent video :) prefer to see outdoor shooting but i also enjoy your indoor macro too

Wow great start, interesting funny and pleasant music choice! I just missed a quick rundown on the gear used for the particular session, would be interesting. Congrats on the bee shot :D
Thank you for watching, I'll do a run down of the gear next time :)
Really nice video definitely do more of these!
Thank you :)
Brilliant thank you I love the macro world but struggle getting sharp images of bees inflight !
Excellent as always. Loved the finished images and am still laughing over the take outs! Good work on your wife’s behalf too :-)
Thank you, i'll pass on the complement to her :)
Nice to see you out side, the bee shot is great, its about time I introduce my self, my name is Paul Ruddock I also do vlogs on utube about macro photography
Paul Ruddock Macro. I really like your work with the flash as I do not use flash I let nature do the lighting for me. I am still in my infancy as a Vloger, but I hope to encourage people to get out side and show them what its like in the field doing Macro photography. As you found out your self NOT EASY. lots to contend with but I love it, the great out doors. keep up the out side work [ Macro Adventures] . out takes are great, Trains, Planes and automobiles can be a right pain. if I am in your area I would love to meet up with you one day it would be great to watch you work, I am in the North Somerset area a place called Clevedon. Many thanks again keep up the good work signing of Paul.
Clevedon looks like a nice spot for macro photography, if I'm ever down that area we should meet up.
Great work. Keep them coming. I like the fieldwork videos and the production was great for your first go at it. And I say that from a person that worked in the film/video industry for some years. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you Dave, my camera settings where wrong for half the video so the next should be better :)
love the bee shots Stewart. I still don't have a good shot. I do like your flash though. Great out takes lol. Cheers :)
Thank you :)
Really good video I love macro photography and seeing different techniques and you made me
Laugh so win win thanks
Thank you for watching :)
😂 we feel your pain Stew lol 😂 me and sammie are always swearing at insects 😂👍 great vid, enjoyed it!👌😜
Thank you, they are a pain to work with but is so much fun!
One of my new favourite channels, new sub here! Just getting into macro myself, thanks to you :)
Thank you for subbing :)
I would love to see a video on how to set up for fill flash, what are your camera settings
I'll see what I can do.
great video, need more of your skills, greetings from Amstrdam
Thank you :)
Awesome little adventure, love the bloopers it was hilarious and really shows the reality of macro photography in the field 😂
Thank you :)
You are becoming a great videographer too ...
Can't take all the credit, the wife filmed a lot of it :)
Great vid. Do more of these
Will do, thank you for watching.
Bee photo 👍👍👍
It was very nice but short. Thanks
It is but it was my first one.
hi Stewart, i am new to macro photography and i am finding your videos very inspirational. I see you have to carry a lot of equipment with you when you go outside, can you give a few hints and tips on what type of carry bag is best (e.g. what do you have) and tips on using flash with macro as well? My eyesight is not too good so i have difficulty in focusing manually and i use auto-focus all the time - is this going to be an issue with macro photography? Keep making these excellent videos - regards
Hi Erich, good questions. I have to carry twice as much equipment than you see in the videos as I also have the video camera with video lenses and tripod. I'm currently using the Low pro 300 AW but I'm in the market for a larger bag. As for the flash I find ttl flash very useful as it will calculate the power needed for you. Auto focus will be hard when at 1:1 macro or more so manual focus is almost a must.
Cracking video. Interesting to see the settings you use when you're out and about. Why did you use the tripod when you shoot the flower? The bee hive shot... great shot and did you get stung? :-D Keep them videos coming!
I almost got stung, they started to land on me. I needed to use the tripod because I needed to use the diffuser because of the bright sunlight.
HI Stewart great video, I liked your flash set up, I will use a ring flash when our summer comes along, any advise on the ring flash, you have a totally different system never seen one like it before, regards Welshman 2081
Hi Welshman2081, I don't like the ring flash reflections on my subjects eyes which is why I currently use my twin macro flash. I do swap to a single standard flash sometimes because of the reflections.
hi love the video , do you have lists of the gear your using ? , thanks
I'll add one to the my website soon.
Good video
Thank you :)
I think you should do more in the field macro videos. I bought a cheap (Meike) LED ring flash but without TTL I struggle to get the exposure right.
It is hard without TTL unless your subject will stay still while you get the correct exposure :)
Great video. Are you using a 100 mm lens? Those Bees have no sense of humor. Two thumbs up for your wife's help.
Yes Don, I'm using the canon 100mm f2.8 L
A really great vid! I love the way u do and explain things to be so easy to do. I started doing some macro following especially your vids and explanations, I only have a big problem, my hand is not at all firm so I have lot of difficulties making some good in focus photos. Is tripod the only way to solve my bad situation?
Continue doing other outside videos, I love to see how u do those great pics in real-time. Best regards and wishes :)
Thank you for watching. You can go tripod or up your shutter speed if possible, an image stabilized lens or in body stabilisation will also help.
Omgosh thank you so much for sharing absolutely beautiful❤️ I am not very camera savvy so your channel will help me get better, thank you! New friend, I hope we can support each other🥰 I loved all the photos, I cant pic a favorite.
Thank you, I did have trouble picking the final images lol
Thank you for sharing. it gives me ideas. do you like the flash that you use? Is the background always black?
I like the flash except the reflections on spiders eyes, I have to change the type of defuser for that type of photo.
End part😂😂
What lens did you use here?
I used the Canon 100mm f/2.8 L
you are such an inspiration!! I just made a channel for my travels and photography!!!
Awesome, well done :)
Loved it!!
Epi pen anyone?
Thank you :)
Hhh that was hilarius.
All I do is cuss when chasing critters around, usually because Im hurting myself
Outside is as interesting as inside. Pl. show enough from outside adventures inclusive your wife filming
