- In this video I compare the new Acura TLX Type S J30AC block to the older J30A4 block from a 2005 Honda Accord, and I show the differences that I can see. I also show a huge surprise fitment at the end of the video.
This is the worlds first CSS J30AC block that is ready to aim for 1,000hp.

B series has LS VTEC
K series has K20 head and K24 block
J series now has J35 block and J30AC head 😍😍😍😍😍
What a time to be alive
Shits about to get real. I hope the aftermarket for the J series engine keeps growing.
P2R is the best thing to happen to the J series. You guys are seriously awesome. I can't wait to see what you guys do in the future.
We need a high horsepower tlx type s build YESTERDAY!!!!!
yeah I'm really curious how much power they can reliably hold stock.
Huge info for anyone looking to increase displacement down the line. amazing how old reliable from 2 decades ago keeps on giving.
This is HUGE ! Thanks for putting in all thie R&D !
love my j30a4. so interesting to see it side by side with its successor! great vid
Dude dual over head car for j series holy I’m ready for that!!!! I can’t wait… can’t believe you just teased us like that 😢 thank you tho for all your guy’s dedication and I promise the j community/enthusiasts couldn’t be more grateful and I look forward to tax and Black Friday just to purchase from you guys 🤣
Your videos are leading me to do a J-series built in the future. Keeping bringing the great contents thumb 👍
Loving the amount of work you guys put it. Passion at its finest
Thank you P2R. P2R never fails but always prevails. Can't wait for a stroker kit. Years ago when every body was hyping with their K series, I said just wait and you gonna see someone will come out with some crazy a$$ mods for the J series. FFW to present annd it seem like P2R is doing it. Keep on with the good works P2R!!!!
It makes sense why there are so many similarities, I mean, the J-series is and has been a lovely family of engines. Hopefully Acura is able to sell enough cars with the J30AC for more or less widespread aftermarket support to make sense, it would seem to me like this engine has some promise.
They won't lol
The MDX is a best seller, I see them all over the place. No reason to doubt the Type-S iteration won’t become popular as well. And I understand the TLX-S has a waiting list.
@@Snookynibbles nah only scheduled for the next 4 to 5 years ish.
@@lucysmith4242Has the past year changed your expectation? I haven’t checked out numbers too much, but I know not a whole ton of people got the Type S variants at first, due to the weight of the TLX. I’m not too sure about the MDX, since it’s not exactly a performance variant based for heavier racing and sports driving.
@@isnowyazn nope they're making and selling even less now. I am sorry to break the news
If those j30ac head works on j35a8 or j37a1/2/4, I would like to see what kind of gains na or turbo it would make in the futures
No vtec

They say Honda don’t care. Honda cares
Damn, the last time I saw and drove a J30A…. it was NOTHING like this new J30AC. DOHC and DI fueling?! Crazy!
I remember the first time the J30A4 debuted, and people started complaining about how the single collector, downpipe styled exhaust manifold would suck at making power.. Boy… it would surprise them how well these newest/latest, modern J-series are blowing the older designs out of the water!
This is huge.. I can’t wait to see where this engine goes
DOHC J series FOR THE WIN! Never thought I'd see the day. Only one major issue; Those exhaust ports. The single and mostly restrictive exhaust port vs 3 individual (6 total, 3 per bank) isn't good for making power as continuously proven by Nissan's VQ V6's that have essentially been leading the way in the V6 department for a lot of years. Next move for Honda is DOHC+Individual Exhaust Ports (6 total, 3 per bank) and we're back in the game for sure.
Clean ass shop, Sean. I can't wait to get my 3.7L TL done.
I would love to have this engine in the manual awd TL, hopefully it's an easy swap in the future. I don't have any hopes of ever reaching those hp #'s with the j37a4.
J37a4 can make big power.
@@PowerRevRacing 1000hp? That's the magic number right there haha
@@RevsALot why not? We can sleeve one that will support that.
@@PowerRevRacing I just didn't know it was possible, good to know🤙. Now I gotta put even more OT at work 🤷♂️ .
Can't wait to see them dohc in action on our older motors
Learned more than a little somethin. Great video
I'm interested in knowing if the j30ac block has the same transmission bolt pattern as the j35y and Z engines. Some of the A's had it like the j35a8 Acura RL. I'm cooking up some weird swap and this could be great edition down the road.
Absolutely freaking AMAZING
Always impressive, you always make me want to switch my set ups, maybe I should wait on my heads and let you finish the J30ca heads for my build. Haha. J Swap Jason.
Type S just need the love Honda gave us something special
Intake port size looks significantly larger. This would help me get that low end power higher.
I'd like to see him try to install that connecting rod at 4:50 go ahead, I'll wait
I would like the dual cam head on my j swap hatch civic….
I can’t wait for my info on this 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Sheesh. Wonder what the benefits would be with those dual heads in my TL sh awd 🤔🤔🤔
Wow, I thought the J30AC block was something different & was a J-series engine in name only. The newer block is about 87% similar to the older design!
I’m pretty much shocked, especially with how the newer DOHC heads fit onto the older blocks so easily. Somebody could Frankenstein the hell out of J-series engines with ease.
One last thing, I wonder how the timing-belt situation looks like with the J30AC engine… I’m like a school girl blushing over here 😊
yeah seriously i thought it was j series in name only.. all they did was dohc, removed vtec, and added a turbo.. but the swap potential is nuts
Excited to see if any j series or NSX transmission bolt up to the j30ac block
It probably won't. The old j35a did have the same pattern and would work but Honda did a redesign in like 05-08 depending on the model. This one probably shares the newer design but they could have changed it again. But the good news is you could build a j35a out of an Odyssey and put the DOHC on the slip it into a NSX
Hey, Sean. I believe that you can put a J37 crankshaft in the J30AC new TLX type-s engine too. If it is happen putting that big J37 crankshaft in there what kind of power would be witness.
I am in for a Dohc swap j series.
Enlightening.
Put that on my 2008 Acura TL would want to so much power it would make with that newer block
Thank you. Are we any closer to getting tunes for the type S.
👍🏻
Could you make a video about the different variants of heads for the J series?
ruclips.net/video/A-j8Uzhf8o0/видео.html
So you guys found out the limit or torque rating for the 10 speed trans in the new Type S (TLX and MDX?) I feel like this will be the limiting factor, not the engine.
Hey i like your video's when I grow up i want to be just like you. I have a question are the runners off a j3.7 the exact same size of the j3.2
Great video and information " Will a j series dual over head cam fit under the hood of a 2007 TL type S ?
I cant answer that yet. But will do some measurements in near future.
Okay thanks
Have you guys learned anything about what the 21+ TLX type-S's SH-AWD 10 speed can handle without too much stress I've not heard of anyone speaking confidently about it, but I've never seen any stress tests at all.
No, we haven't really looked much into the transmission yet.
Any piston options to raise the static compression ratio on the J30AC?
What is the average J30AC engine weight without transmission, with harness (dry weight)? TIA
Mother of god .
How are valve-cover & timing-belt jobs done on one of these?! From what I understand there aren’t any cam caps to hold the camshafts down.
The cams slide into the heads on the j30a4. The valve cover is the cam caps on the j30ac.
@@PowerRevRacingnice, and will you guys be uploading valve cover gasket and timing-belt work on one of these?
Wait... DOHC J series?!?!!
Did you think using that doch head into the old type block will work for allmotor??
J is the next K
will this heads work on a j35a3 and what would be the advantage?
Whats the potential horsepower you can add without fucking up the car? 500 total hp?
DOCH J series??? how'd I not know this?
Anybody have an idea of how much power the stock motor and transmission can handle?
They haven't been pushed far yet. So I dont think anyone will be able to answer that yet.
@@PowerRevRacing getting my p2r parts installed Wednesday!
Honda / Acura limited the 1st gear ⚙️ to shift early. They must have seen the weakness in allowing first gear to rev high.
When coming to a roll, the 10-speed does not shift back into first if you do not stop completely. It stays in second and is “laggy” compared to the first gear.
I can bet you that some stuff broke after endurance testing and they limited the revving so they wouldn’t be swapping them out often . I’m sure it must have felt torquey for the non turbo MDX. The Type S MDX obviously has more torque and makes up for it in 2nd gear and in S-mode.
Are the new dohc j30’s timing chain? Didn’t catch that
No they’re belt
@@dustinbriggs7761 thank u
put that in type s i need to see what it do
Question do you had any safe tune for j35y6....
We dont offer any tuning services
Do you know any tune for this platform ?
Try it with j37 crank.
whats the song?

I have one for sale if you want one.
