Josh is learning but also common sense is occasionally lacking. Sees the sign that says Queensland, doesn't guess in Queensland, a flat green Chile round, guesses far north where the mountains and desert are (you can see the desert on the map and he knows the mountains are there already). Spends ages sometimes looking for the exact place when he's only found the sign names of small villages, giving the opponent time to find more useful information
Talking about common sense, you should know that it’s very different when you are doing the task … Just like when you can’t find your socks, charger, nail clippers etc etc but your mom comes & finds it in seconds …
yeah the common sense tends to go out the window when you've just spent time looking at all these really specific clues like posts/poles/poletops/bollards. the hyperfocus in micro things tends to temporarily hinder one's ability to consider all the macro stuff. Queensland round was frustrating but also maybe (hard maybe) he hasn't heard of Queensland? either way he won't forget where it is anymore after this lol. and the Chile round.... idk, even the map colouring was shouting at him not to guess up there
14:20 a good way to distinguish between Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau is that if you see another language other than Chinese on the signs, it's probably not Taiwan. (Edit: they have English on major road signs, but for signs along the streets, they usually don't have English on it) If you see Portuguese anywhere with Chinese, then it's definitely Macau. Macau is one of the very few places on Earth who speaks both Chinese and Portuguese. Meta for Macau and Hong Kong: 1. Macau's Google street views are from like 15 years ago coz they banned Google street view in 2008 (or sth along those lines). All Macau's street view are very very old. 2. The zigzag road markings on the road in 14:03 is exclusive to Macau but not Hong Kong and Taiwan. 3. Taxis colours Macau: black Taiwan: yellow Hong Kong: can be red, green (or very rarely, blue) 4. Driving directions: Taiwan: on the right Hong Kong: on the left Macau: on the left (usually on a one-way 1-lane narrow road like in the video. In fact, two-way traffic are not common in Macau because its so small. Roads with more than two lanes in Macau are considered expressways) If you know Macau and the opponent don't, you'll get points for dayyyyys coz Macau is so small😂
This is not true Taiwan also includes english on road signs (especially the large green signs). Honestly easiest way imo is looking up at the skyrises and seeing how many/how close they are hong kong is PACKED
@@ClaybtwTrue but on 35:26, you can see there are places in Hong Kong where it's not that packed. In places like these, if you see English then it's probably not Taiwan (like the English on the bin) If you're lucky enough to find a phone number you can also distinguish it that way. Hong Kong phone numbers never start with 0, and is always 8-digits.
12:40 , in Swedish "vägen" or "väg" means street/road. In Danish its "Vej" or "Vejen" and in Norweigan its "Vei" or "Veien" :) a good thing to look out for in Geoguessr
3:00 for the Russia round, if you have cars around you look for which side they have their steering wheel on, cause general rule of thumb is that the more east you go, the more right side steering wheels there are (starting from around Krasnoyarsk), this is because they import them from Japan
It's also worth looking at the brands of vehicles too. If there are a lot more Japanese and Korean brands, then it's more likely to be in the east. If there are a lot more European brands, then it's more likely to be in the west.
Little Meta for ya. In the first round of Russia, some cars had their stearingwheel on the RIGHT side. This is because they get imported from Japan. And thus you are close to Japan!
Tip to find out if you‘re driving on the left hand side when it’s a one-way street like in Macau (or when there are no street lines / signs): just look at where the steering wheel is positioned in cars nearby! If two or more cars have it on the same side (for example left) you can pretty much get the driving side from that (in that case you’d be driving on the right hand side) Great to see you enjoying the game! :)
12:26 tip for skandinavia is that only sweden uses the öä dots norway has æøå and denmark uses some of both but most often ø Edit: Denmark uses æøå as well, only sweden and Finland us the two dots
also although not scandinavian, it could be finland, finland also uses äöå like sweden in the western/southwest area, because it is finnish-swedish area, cities like, Kokkola, Vaasa, Pietarsaari, Turku etc
Denmark use æøå too. Sweden and finland are red and yellow street signs Denmark and Norway are red and white. Red wooden houses and mountains is not Denmark
As a Brazilian i completely agree, for some reason Geoguessr always puts you on a rural area in Brazil never in metropolitan one. A few quick tips of how to diferenciat Spanish from Portuguese. If has a EL/LA/LOS/LAS/LL/Ñ is Spanish. If has a Ç/Ã/SS/CH/LH/ is Portuguese. Cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
I started playing Geoguessr because of you and i love that you show your thought process. It helped me get much better. I learnt quite a few strats from your videos. Pls keep doing these vide ❤
Little tip for french Canadian areas : If it’s mostly, if not only french, it’s Quebec. If it’s mainly English but still has some french, then it’s most likely in the eastern part of Canada, like Ontario, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.
12:14 Idk if your gonna see this But if you find an Ä (a) wrote like that it is very most likely sweden, Norway dont have that letter. However we have ÅÆØ so if you find them its most likely Norway
For northeastern India/Bangladesh, look for triangles facing left, or in general more pointy characters. You're also very likely to see some Arabic-looking script (Urdu) in Bangladesh but not in Bengal. For northern/western india (all the way down to Mumbai) you won't have triangles but you'll have more circles. If you see the top part of an infinity sign, go Maharashtra (Mumbai area). Hoping this gets likes so you see this 🙏 it'll help a ton
20:01 first time I’ve ever seen Curaçao on geoguessr omg. For future reference the çao in Curaçao is actually pronounced as s ow (say ow as if you’re saying ow when getting hurt) and not s ay o. So basically cur a sow. For those wondering yes I’m qualified to correct the pronunciation I’ve been living on Curaçao for 6 years now
18:48 the horizontal island on the left near malaysia and singapore is still Indonesia Josh. indonesia consist of 5 major islands, which are Java (u know this already), sumatera (the one on the left that you thought was part of Malaysia), Kalimantan (the big island above java and is connected with Malaysia and Brunei), Sulawesi (the one that looks like the letter K), and Papua
Macao is easier to get.Its probably the only place in the world where you would see Chinese and Portugese texts together.Macao was a Portugese territory untill 1999
It's very easy to learn to read Cyrillic. The alphabet can be learned in an hour or two and after a day or two of practice reading actual words, you can read it without having to think about what sound each letter corresponds to. There's also a Venn diagram available online that shows which Cyrillic letters are used in which languages. If you learn to read the alphabet and memorise the diagram, then you can know what the signs say and what country it is with very little effort.
Press the forward arrow and then press and hold the space button at the same time, this will allow you to travel way faster. This will especially help you in rounds where the moving is slow and difficult, you won't have to continuously press the forward arrow
Any advice to josh would be speed up when you hit something early, he spends wayy to much time trying to pin point rather then pressing the clock. PS as a person that lives in QLD it was horrible to watch you see our government sign then pick a different state 🤣
if you're unsure if ur in eastern of western russia, look at what side the wheel of cars are, if its left like eu, its more west, its its like uk and on the right side its more than likely to be more eastern part of russia :) and in 3:30 most cars have drivers on the right side of the car its also very hilly compared to most of russia
Hey Josh. When you see a slight blue blur on the car at the front and you know you are in Africa, its always South America. Blue blur on the car is either europe or South Africa
if you are interested, theres a really good series of maps called “a learnable meta ___” where you download a script and they are super super good for teaching poles, bollards, etc and how to spot them in real rounds. i personally love to practice using those maps in particular!!
Try to learn Brazilian area codes (just the first digit is enough). They are easy to learn and Brazil is gigantic. They will give you a big advantage in low ranks.
haha i had a feeling it was south africa because of the vodacom instead of vodaphone coz one of orlando pirates or kaizer cheifs had vodacom sponsorship on fifa
The Гепард Секьюрити sign? Yeah, there does seem to be a lot of private security companies in Russia. It's quite a threatening sign too. I certainly wouldn't want to try breaking in somewhere that has a warning that weapons will be used if I do.

23:49 Josh reads that it is in Queensland, then at 24:16 puts a guess in New South Wales
saw that haha
Zigzag would not be a happy man
I was about to comment that. That was so dumb
I CANT WAIT for the next more sidemen geoguessr video with josh in it 😂 please solo them
He's going to destroy them

this is good to know actually i just guessed off the yellow triangle sign he saw😂
Josh has actually gotten so much better, I'm learning while watching too. Learning bollards would literally make him insane.

Josh…you are in a green area. And you think you are in Chile. Why. On EARTH. Would you guess in an area that is literally DESERT?
3:30 typical Russian ad
The Гепард Секьюрити sign? Yeah, there does seem to be a lot of private security companies in Russia. It's quite a threatening sign too. I certainly wouldn't want to try breaking in somewhere that has a warning that weapons will be used if I do.
Does Josh not know the bicycle strat yet?
Learn to quick move without tapping.. use mouse to click on the arrows on the road, either forward are backwards.. then hold down the space button x
You and Freya should play tiny Tina's wonderland together think that would work well
the more triangles in the language, the more chance it is bengali (bangladesh)
Josh surely you learn to differentiate India (shitcam) from Bangladesh (good quality coverage) for next episode -- the scripts are also possible to tell apart if you look for the little triangular-type symbols in Bengali!!! I love this series and am looking forward to seeing your progress next week
