Thanks Tony! First off, thanks for the shout out! I appreciate that. To power mine I have a stereo cable that takes power on the ring of the TRS cable to power the Variax on the same cable as the output from the guitar. It then goes through a little box and out to my audio interface via an XLR connector. I bought mine used and the battery compartment was corroded. As far as the software, I had created a few custom guitars that are stored in the custom positions. The biggest problem with not having the software is that the only way to have alt tunings on the older Variax is to create a preset with the alt tuning in the software. If I remember correctly there are two programs you have to install. One is called Line 6 Monkey and one is called Variax Workbench. I'm hoping I have an installer on a backup drive somewhere, but so far I haven't found it. I have only ever used my Variax connected direct to my PC and never through an amp, that is why I was curious how the modelled sounds worked with both valve and modelled amps. I'll have to hook up my Variax and use it again soon.
There is also a powering system for this guitar. You do have to buy a special cord that line six made for this powering system for the variax standard that plugs into the guitar and from the powering unit you plug into your amp/pedals with a regular cable.

Hello Tony i love your videos. Can i use in Helix dual outputs ? One output XLR Left and Right With Amp+ Cab and effects to P.A and other outputs 1/4 Left and Right to diferent Amp, real amps a Mesa boogie and a Fender and in Helix the same patch with effects but without cab and amp simulation. Its possible? Does the DSP Can hold on ? Thanks regards from Portugal.
