I had a bad expetience with support carriers so far. there have been multiple occasions where i was unneccessarily smoked in by a friendly cv in dds. They prevent you from spotting, show where you are and bring out enemy radars at the worst times.
The smoke and minelaying gimmick is only for self-support - it benefits only the carrier, cuz making the game last longer guarantees only the CV more damage. Same reason soviet cruisers got radar - to support themselves.
Cv player don't have the gamesense to actually be supportive with a support cv. They aren't even able to move their ship when one flank is lost so they dont die
The thing is nakhimov got built in hidden mechanic in her planes. Fighter has longer tag time if it need to catch last squadron and will lose tag when squadron unload their payload + AA deal less dmg to the last squadron. Since nakhimov only have 1 squadron mean he always have last squadron. So essex with fighter build actually not that much effective on nakhimov
I remember Essex being in Alpha where it was just USN CVs and Cruisers, Japanese destroyers and battleships at the time. Essex dive bombers were ridiculously broken at the time, like dropping laser guided bombs.
As someone who has always had an intrest in carrier aviation, i think having the support CVs is good. Not saying that they are perfect, but its nice to have a way to do good in a CV that dosent involve punishing the enemy team for playing/existing
the thing is, cvs support their team from the beginning. what i call support: - general spotting (similar to spotting through DDs) and specific spotting (searching for 1 dd/sub) - finishing off low targets who want to retreat either through spotting or hunting them - reinforcing flanks with attaks/damage output through speed Smoke and the insane AA of Bearn for example are just additions. And most ships are self reliant and smoke isn't what it was with many spotting capabilities of several ships (plane spotting, dd spotting, smoke firing penalty, submarine radar, radar, hydro)
Different type carries different amount of consumables. For example if you use your torpedoes squadron fighter/intercepter then the bomber fighter/interceptor isnt in use
honestly the smoke screen as a CV is a bit OP if you're the last one left, can easily set a few km long smoke for you to sail through while hammering a chasing DD or other ship.
the support carriers have short reaction times already built into their fighters, you have to swap out your enhanced reaction time commander skill for something else because your fighters are arriving too late lol
Think it's a nice middle ground and also gives the CV a lot more purpose within the game instead of just being the irritating OP musquito it is right now. Also gives a little more CV on CV action making it so they aren't there just for the free dmg. Just check out that Naki, he was angry pretty quick because there was a potential you'd take away some strike possibilities from him XD. Think they should have implemented CV's in this way a long time ago. In a balanced matter of course but ja, feels like a better way of doing it.
The rockets are tiny tims - so 5 second delay to fire them - makes them useless vs dd's and cruisers that are aware (turning etc). The fighters don't provide spotting - they only see ships that are no more than 2km away. TWO kilometres. Remember that.
These "support CVs" are so supportive, WG even taught the bots to smoke up only themselves. lol Recycled RTS carriers, with game slowing gimmicks - smoking and minelaying is just to make the game more static. Longer the game time means more free DPS for the CV. And the faster fighter consumable gimmick is redundant - if you piss off the enemy CV enough, he'll just decide to strike you instead - and Essex and Yorktown got pancake deck armor.
I think I saw on a Reddit post somewhere that taking Enhanced Reactions actually detrimental because your Fighters as a Support CV already has similar qualities baked in.
They do have better reactions, and indeed better radius and cooldown time - but it's still irrelevant, cuz any enemy CV with a brain will just despawn his planes, not losing a single fighter, wasting your consumable. Unless they make manually controlled interceptors, these "support CVs" will be nothing but self-supporting - no air supremacy CV vs CV combat, means CV gameplay will still be only a 2-dimensional target practice against surface ships.
Support Carrier have lots of Fighter in the squadrons, and it will delete enemy CV attack squads if you activate it. Basically once CV caught on Support CV fighter consumables, it basically an Auto Loss squadrons. Also, focus on full support than damaging the ship is actually makes your whole team more annoying to fight. Because you can just wall smoke, spot and ask enemies to spot enemy ships from it. Ofcorse, if you know what you’re doing, it is a decent support CV. Sure, you have that annoying consumable squadrons to use but after using it for a bit their drop patterns are super weird. However, Essex Torps bombers have its own heal now and it can Tank AAs if it wanted to. You can only use Wall of Smoke only 2x2 times, it requires Consumable squadrons and smoke last 60secs. So you can use smoke right away when aircraft is launched to conceal yourself but as I mentioned, smoke only last 60s. The most useful part about Smoke is basically cover DD arses. If their health is low or being hunted by enemy CVs. Ofcorse if you are that CV that I tends to respect, you know how to use Smoke. But most CV players will use their consumables for their selfish needs. Like I said, if you want to focus on damage, regular CVs does better in every single aspects. Support CVs can do damage but it isn’t does huge damage over time. Plus, Nachimov still out class these guys by a mile. Although I wish Support CVs have more smoke consumables. But at least it does have very strong fighters in their arsenal. Also, I wanted them to replace Rocket planes to Fighters squadrons tbh. Just use them as Fighting aircrafts. Yeah, atleast fighter consumables are insane and delete squadrons. In conclusions: Support CVs are actually balance, surprisingly. Way better than Regular CV in terms of how it play out.
CVs fighting each other, setting aa and smokes the first 5-10min of a game, looks like a valid way for everyone to have fun. make plane dmg count as dmg and set a 1-2min cooldown on ship-attack planes. Could be a valid solution.
I am a fan of the smoke screen on planes. CV in a support role is very nice and brings some balance back to the game. Crazy that WG is actually listening for once
Supporting with Essex is great but don't completely disregard your damage potential. Look at how much damage those torpedo bombers do. Be a hybrid - support and damage.
it's kind of bs the cv can just hit F and then his squad is safe cause they're immune once they start retreating. as if fighters can't chase bombers when they're retreating.
I don't play CVs much but when I do, I've always played the support role. Tier 6 and 8 CVs really aren't too toxic for the game but the higher tiers are!
Rather a new class completely that acted like a healer/support in rpgs. Game already has magic spells. It isn't a stretch. Minimal ability to attack but can buff and heal and has top tier conceal.
Not only can these CVs spot you and completely crap on your concealment and efforts at positioning, they can do so while hiding all the opposing ships from your sight. It's a bit like all ships can potentially get smoke and radar, but with the radar's range being equal to the guns' range. For the CV however, you can be even worse at positioning thanks to the smoke. Get spotted in the open like a potato ? Lol just smoke up. At least the damage potential is inferior to the others...
So, wargaming took a look at how boring CV play is and thought to themselves, I bet we can make that even more boring! They're good at what they do, I guess.
The game for victory is to inflict damage on the enemy, destroy his ships. And everything else is to invent a role for someone and demand from him such a gameplay that will allow you to do more damage and at the same time the team won. For example, I want the green triangles to give me smoke and light, and I would already inflict damage on the enemy, it would also be good if they capture points and light torpedoes. Battleships and cruisers can do everything else better than destroyers. Let the triangles play for the team, and real men will do the rest.

They just save the smoke for saving themselves.

You found the dumbest players in CVs, nothing new
There have been times when I feel like the friendly CV dropping fighters to guard my DD is really saying "DD is here!"
I’m glad to see the Essex back in action; my dad served aboard her.
Looking forward towards more CV on CV toxicity :D
It's crazy to see how well the support role works when it's done selflessly.
Nachimov feels like the most toxic CV
* is
it kinda is, as well. You can drop your attack from outside of most ships' AA range, and you can recycle planes faster
And Nakhimov is basically invulnerable to fighters
@@le_potate3861 i wouldnt really mind if it was a real ship but its just a soviet fantasy bullshit something
@@mkkttmttr3401I still would mind it, since it completely breaks the CV/AA dynamic. I say this as a CV player lol. It's straight up busted.
Love how the only big mouth in the enemy team was the Nakhimov AND member of that dutch clan. They talk like that in every game I found them.
I sometimes think if a carrier only has one strike, fighters should also attack returning aircraft.
That was fun, can't wait to see more
I remember Essex being in Alpha where it was just USN CVs and Cruisers, Japanese destroyers and battleships at the time.
Essex dive bombers were ridiculously broken at the time, like dropping laser guided bombs.
Driving that Yamato into the Shima torps was a masterclass, but I assume it was an accident
The T6 French CV Bearn is fantastic at serving as a support carrier due to its excellent Interceptor squadron
As someone who has always had an intrest in carrier aviation, i think having the support CVs is good. Not saying that they are perfect, but its nice to have a way to do good in a CV that dosent involve punishing the enemy team for playing/existing
More gameplay of these CVs please. :)

the t8 yorktown is also so awsome for coop missions.
I'm ignorant - at 6:00 how did you suddenly go from 2 fighter squads to 5?
Different type carries different amount of consumables.
For example if you use your torpedoes squadron fighter/intercepter then the bomber fighter/interceptor isnt in use
My english is bad, but yeah each type of squadron own their own consumable
i love this approach Super Stuff :)

5:00 asw plane up close
Nice test
This new line is far less oppressive to play against. Wish they were all more like this.
now that is the way to run a CV
Great video loved it

What button is it to see the plane cooldown? I've been playing for years and never figured it out lol

This CV line in ranked is the most oppressive shit ever.
Testing huh how many Essex vidz have there Flambass 🤣🤣🤣
not many vids because I didn't want to read "omg another cv video" but plenty of material :D
@@Flambass a CV main at heart
👍👍👌👌
best cv game ever
More like the twilight side of the Force, rather than the dark side.
I have no idea what just happened but if you can thwart CV's I'm all for it.
"I'm not doing it for damage". Keeps attacking the disconnected ship
why never focus dds? Put planes over dds, all time all match

Essex was my favorite carrier before the rework, they took it away when they removed all the tier 9's, jerks should give it back to me for free.
that's how i play them anyway
You need the 3 point fighter skill instead of the 4 point skill. Use the bombs on DDs and cruisers.
fight Nakhimov's planes on their way out from the attack? :)
Well, you didn't actually support the team as intended, you kept yourself smoked up.
