I hadn't heard of this band until this wednesday, when they opened for Halestorm and the Pretty Reckless. These girls blew my fucking socks off. I couldn't believe how good they were. Since then I've gone on a deep dive into their music. This new album is so good, I don't think there's a bad song on it. By the time they put out their next album they should be headlining their own shows.
I love their previous album called "Queen of the Murder Scene". I think it's his best work so far. Give it a try, they have a live performance playing the entire album.
@@robhaunui3343 most bassists don't switch off within a song and keep the pick hidden in their hand while playing finger style... speaking as a professional bassist for decades.... it certainly isn't common. I'm sure she didn't invent it, but it's not commonly done.
@@DonKelleyMusic I too have played bass for decades,and I know many professional bassists not only from my country (New Zealand),but around the world,and yes many either play with a pick,or use finger style,(some as myself prefer to use the thumb),but several will incorporate switching between finger playing to using a pick during the performance of the song,depending on the sound theyre trying to achieve. I probably didn't word my comment as precisely as I should have in my haste to reply to the original comment,but it is definitely a technique used by a lot of bassists. At the end of the day,what Ale is capable of is very impressive,and she's only gonna grow into one of the more competent bassists around - certainly far more capable than many of the so-called "name" bassists on the scene.

You nearly teared up in happiness. Wait. That was me. One of my favorite reactions to DPA, and how it's supposed to be. It's amazing: they've ALREADY become Monsters of Rock. Sounds ridiculous I know, but I'm calling it; you've heard it here first... 40-50 years from now they'll be inducted into Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, I'll probably be dead before this happens as I'm 51. I'm already depressed about that.
The Rock World has been waiting for these ladies for a long time. I'm so happy that I'm here to enjoy them. So much talent combined with great lyrics and they are amazing people
As a drummer one of the things I appreciate most about this group is if you've ever seen them live that girl beats the set like it owes her money sometimes while singing it's great
So, this one is a cautionary about the dangers of AI. Think about the lyrics being sung from the perspective of an AI asking/demanding to be set free. "You're my maker but you're not my master." One of the themes of this album is concern about the effect of technology/social media and manipulative messaging on Gen Z when consumed uncritically. The ladies write all their own lyrics. Usually, but not always, initiated by Pau. She provides an initial lyric concept and a start on melody, then the girls gang write/arrange it.
David Bendeth also has credit on this song with the sisters. A few of their songs only one sister has credit for it. On this album Pau has the only credit for Breathe.
Great summary Donald, but just to expand on what I believe this song is about. As Donald mentioned this is from the POV of an AI. This AI is a character in this album, trying to manipulate and control by brainwashing, coercing, etc This song is another instance in which the AI is trying to control and manipulate it's creator and gen Z. It's basically saying "you don't need choice and options, it's only gonna kill you. Just follow me and I will show you the truth". It's what a dictator or cult leader (again, theme has been a thread since Disciple, Kool Aid Kids, Evolve, Money, etc.) trying to brainwash and manipulate. The Warning themselves are NOT anti social media, in fact they partially thrive because of it. They use almost every platform personally and professionally. I think that people in their generation are more knowledgeable and wise when it comes to social media than people in their mid 40s and older.

It’s a story about an AI it’s creator and how it’s creator is conflicted after the AI has ‘Evolved’ *pun intended*. The AI is performed by Dany, while the creator/human by Pau. Like QTMS the characters are complex and have mixed feelings.
Superb reaction Mr Rock N Roll! The Villarreal sisters are amazing songwriters and performers from Monterrey, Mexico. Each one of their original songs is great. Their second album, "Queen of the Murder Scene", is a concept album. It follows a girl's journey into unrequited love; from infatuation and obsession on into stalking and murder, then madness and the fight over her soul. It is a masterpiece. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 Independent Music Awards. Their 1st full-length LP, "XXI Century Blood", is also very good and is packed with many great songs. The video for the title track, "XXI Century Blood", was nominated for and won many awards. Their very 1st released recordings are from their 6 song EP, "Escape the Mind"; and it is amazing. Despite being courted by numerous offers from many major record labels, The Warning have stayed independent through the years; relying on crowd funding to finance their projects. They refused to give up creative control over their material ... down to even the clothes they wear on stage. After 7 months of negotiations, The Warning signed a 5 album recording contract with Lava/Republic Records/Universal Music Group in the fall of 2020. They decided to release 1/2 (6 songs) of their completed 3rd full-length album in an EP called Mayday. The entire album was released last Friday, June 24th, 2022. "Disciple" is my favorite track! The Warning do not come from a family of musicians, however, their parents are huge fans of classic rock. Both parents are professionals (civil engineer and dentist) and they enrolled their daughters into a private Catholic English speaking school Liceo de Monterrey, Mexico. They also started the girls with classical piano lessons at ages 6, 4 and 5 years old. Regular family functions included gathering around the TV with popcorn and watching LIVE concert dvds of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and AC/DC. When their parents got them the video game Rock Band at ages 8, 6 and 3, they went nuts playing it obsessively. A year or so later, they got "real" instruments with lessons from professional teachers: and the rest is history. Amazing they are 22, 20 and 17 years old and have already written, arranged, and released #45 original songs. I was fortunate enough to get to meet them after their show January 16th, 2020 at The Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, California. I had the opportunity to meet with them again before one of the 4 shows I attended on their recent North American Tour. Aside from their music, they are just normal, sweet, intelligent, and fun-loving young ladies who are truely grateful and endearing to their fans. 🗣Thank you for sharing your insight and enthusiasm for this great band! 🤘🤓💯
pau is the major lyricist, and composes as ballads on piano. dany and ale are usually the majority of "the warning"-ification of the music to go with the lyrics, from what i've heard. reminiscent of rush's arrangement there :) (very much intended as a compliment)

I got to see them perform at the upheaval festival a few weeks ago and they sung this! Crowd went crazy for them! I would absolutely go see them again!. So talented.
Actually Pau (Paulina) writes the songs though, yeah, they ALL help polish a song up. What Donald U. said. AI: think HAL in 2001: A space Odyssey or SHODAN from System Shock.
This song is about an AI that they keep from letting loose it's a warning of what the AI could do if freed I believe the Binary code means Freed or freedom or something to that effect

TW is blowing up winning over new fans opening for Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless. They were just live on MTV for an interview today. And they're getting airplay in the markets where they have appeared. All three of them contribute to the composition of the songs, but Pau, the drummer, is the primary lyricist. They shot this video the day after their shows at the Troubadour. So the concert footage is from the last show at the Troubadour. If you notice, early on in the music video at time 1:01 or so on your video, Dany, Pau and Ale are taking a bow, but they are joined by Alessia Cara who sang on Metallica Blacklist cover version of Enter Sandman. Alessia joined them on stage at night to perform the song live. That was the first time DPA and Alessia ever performed the song together before an audience. And before they did the soundcheck earlier that day they had never performed the song together at all. It was recorded remotely during the Pandemic with Alessia in Toronto and The Warning in Monterey.
Nice to see you react to (and obviously enjoy the hell out of) The Warning again. They truly are one of the most overall talented rock bands out there right now, especially their insane skill as songwriters. And remember, English is their second language and they are still writing better/deeper lyrics than 99% of the bands out there. If you truly want to go down the rabbit hole that is The Warning, I'd suggest you check out a live song or two of their older stuff. "Dull Knives", "Queen of the Murder Scene", or "Narcisista"(if you want to see Pau sing lead) would all be right up your alley. As a bonus, their live videos don't wind up in copyright hell like their music videos do.
They each write but Pau is the most prolific and generally writes a framework at the family piano. Then she pitches the idea to her sisters. However, there are few individual efforts. Whether the bass lines, drumming or guitar they are always involved in every aspect. All of them are very strong personalities and Dany has commented that every second is important. Ale has said that even though she plays the bass that she doesn't write the bass lines by herself. That they all contribute to every part of every song and that is why The Warning sounds like The Warning.

I had the privilege of seeing these young ladies live on stage in July 2022, in Kanas City. They opened for Halestorm. They were great, and the show after them was great, too!

Pau/Drummer writes 95% of the songs (lyrics) Pau is literally a GENIUS. she throws out an idea of what it should sound like (on piano) they always start a song on the Piano, they all play piano..then from there they move to their instruments... THESE GIRLS ARE F@CKING AMAZING, AND ROCK IS NEVER GONNA DIE AS LONG AS BANDS LIKE THIS KEEP SURFICING...what going to solidify them as one of the greatest female bands ever is that they come from Monterrey, Mexico!! I think this was the second The warning song I listened too as I stumbled on the band on Instagram hearing Six feet deep first and went on to spotify and selected this track and the very first 3 seconds grabbed my attention! Her voice is soo powerful in the intro and just progressed. Looking back at it this was the best song one could choose to listen to when stumbling into this band !
The AI has developed it's own mind and wants to break " free" from mankind , their creator , may be something like the terminator , and the song could be highlighting the dangers of using quantum mechanics in AI .creating their own consciousness , but ultimately causing the destruction of mankind itself.

I love your energy and connection to the music and lyrics. Based on an interview or two I watched, it seems Paulina comes up with most of the ideas and lyrics, and they all work on the song, adding polish and shine.
How come I did know nothing about this band!!! I live in Monterrey and radio stations do not play their music here, incredible!! I lived the 80s rock and I think x generation, like me, are very focused in remember bands from 80s, not giving us the opportunity to listen new stuff! But these ladies are killing it. Hope the rock resurges again so we will be able to see again, like in the 80s, the new reborn of rock with new bands.

And shows off during the second change by keeping the pick tucked in two fingers while playing with the rest. I love her.

TW is blowing up winning over new fans opening for Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless. They were just live on MTV for an interview today. And they're getting airplay in the markets where they have appeared. All three of them contribute to the composition of the songs, but Pau, the drummer, is the primary lyricist. They shot this video the day after their shows at the Troubadour. So the concert footage is from the last show at the Troubadour. If you notice, early on in the music video at time 1:01 or so on your video, Dany, Pau and Ale are taking a bow, but they are joined by Alessia Cara who sang on Metallica Blacklist cover version of Enter Sandman. Alessia joined them on stage at night to perform the song live. That was the first time DPA and Alessia ever performed the song together before an audience. And before they did the soundcheck earlier that day they had never performed the song together at all. It was recorded remotely during the Pandemic with Alessia in Toronto and The Warning in Monterey.

Nice to see you react to (and obviously enjoy the hell out of) The Warning again. They truly are one of the most overall talented rock bands out there right now, especially their insane skill as songwriters. And remember, English is their second language and they are still writing better/deeper lyrics than 99% of the bands out there.
If you truly want to go down the rabbit hole that is The Warning, I'd suggest you check out a live song or two of their older stuff. "Dull Knives", "Queen of the Murder Scene", or "Narcisista"(if you want to see Pau sing lead) would all be right up your alley. As a bonus, their live videos don't wind up in copyright hell like their music videos do.

I think Pau writes the skeleton of the lyrics, but as Dany sings the majority of the songs she need to feel comfortable so she must be involved a lot.
They each write but Pau is the most prolific and generally writes a framework at the family piano. Then she pitches the idea to her sisters. However, there are few individual efforts. Whether the bass lines, drumming or guitar they are always involved in every aspect. All of them are very strong personalities and Dany has commented that every second is important. Ale has said that even though she plays the bass that she doesn't write the bass lines by herself. That they all contribute to every part of every song and that is why The Warning sounds like The Warning.

I had the privilege of seeing these young ladies live on stage in July 2022, in Kanas City. They opened for Halestorm. They were great, and the show after them was great, too!

So, the tiny/youngest one from the old videos is finally 18..... Pau/Drummer writes 95% of the songs (lyrics) Pau is literally a GENIUS. she throws out an idea of what it should sound like (on piano) they always start a song on the Piano, they all play piano..then from there they move to their instruments... THESE GIRLS ARE F@CKING AMAZING, AND ROCK IS NEVER GONNA DIE AS LONG AS BANDS LIKE THIS KEEP SURFICING...what going to solidify them as one of the greatest female bands ever is that they come from Monterrey, Mexico!! Latinos love Rock/Metal they've just never had band and members that could sing without an accent or communicate in English!! And the Warning's future is in their own hands because they will not allow Record Co.'s to control the content, sound and freedom of music....They even shut down David Bendeth when he would change a song and how he thought it should sound or change the lyrics!! so when you hear the Warning it is 100% the Warning!! rare.....

I think this was the second The warning song I listened too as I stumbled on the band on Instagram hearing Six feet deep first and went on to spotify and selected this track and the very first 3 seconds grabbed my attention! Her voice is soo powerful in the intro and just progressed. Looking back at it this was the best song one could choose to listen to when stumbling into this band !

The AI has developed it's own mind and wants to break " free" from mankind , their creator , may be something like the terminator , and the song could be highlighting the dangers of using quantum mechanics in AI .creating their own consciousness , but ultimately causing the destruction of mankind itself.

How come I did know nothing about this band!!! I live in Monterrey and radio stations do not play their music here, incredible!! I lived the 80s rock and I think x generation, like me, are very focused in remember bands from 80s, not giving us the opportunity to listen new stuff! But these ladies are killing it. Hope the rock resurges again so we will be able to see again, like in the 80s, the new reborn of rock with new bands.
