  • Sappho was an amazing Greek poet who wrote about her love of women and struggles with romance. She's how we got the words "sapphic" and "lesbian," due to her living on the Isle of Lesbos. Catullus, for all the grief we put him through last episode, can actually write about more than smelly breath and stolen napkins. Today, Sappho tackles the pain of watching a love interest talk to someone else, and Catullus write his own adaptation of that very same poem, "after Sappho."

I have an exam and I found this video while searching for some material on the Sapphics. This was so helpful since I really needed a comparative pov. Also, thanks a ton for the laughs! 💜☺️

Lesbia was Catullus' girlfriend, whose real name was Clodia, and she was married to someone else, thus the pseudonym. But a real person she was.
