While conducting our Advanced Canyoneering Course we had the opportunity to put some of the skills to work in a rescue as a result of a flash flood.
One of our instructors (yeah, I know, shoulda known better). Went for a hike during the rain storm to check out the water falls coming down from the cliffs. He found himself on the other side of the wash after it had flashed and realized it too late to get himself across. We found the ideal location and setup to be able to set up a Traverse line and get him back across before the water got too much, or before he was stuck for hours. This was a great opportunity for the students to see and setup a traverse line and help with a rescue and be able to see it in action outside of just a canyon scenario.

I appreciate that your video disclaimer says to practice safely, not to do it at all. Very realistic haha
All my canyoneering is self taught and I do my best to be safe and practice _everything_ I see online safely at home or a local park.

Nicely done! Good choices made. A few subtle points I saw include: A. going double-strand = twice as static, and easier to tension the system. B. Jared and others at the ready to support the rope upward, in case the 'victim' was gonna get wet!

Whow, you all did a great job! Good to see that everyone is fine. Utahs Canyons and Canyoneering fascinate me although I've never done it and probably will never do. But I like to watch Videos who are about it and I follow your channel enthusiastically. Best regards from Germany... Daniela 🙂

Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! You are always welcome in Utah :) Although I lived in Germany for a couple years and I would love to go back there again and explore over there. I love the country - and the food.

I've taken the Advanced class and learned a lot. Working in a real-life scenario would have been amazing...given it was done in safe conditions and all were game. Missing the Utah canyons from here in Virginia. Ryan

Thanks Ryan. I'll bet Virginia doesn't have that much in the way of canyons. Keep practicing the techniques though and just staying fresh with what you can. Utah will be here as soon as you are able to make it back. It really was a fun scenario to work through, although a bit stressful as well given the penalty points possible. I really like doing rescue and it's a blast for me, more of a rush, to work through the scenarios and problem solving aspects of the situation to make an outcome work in everyone's favor.
