  • Robert Arthur Allison (born December 3, 1937) is a former NASCAR Winston Cup driver and was named one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers.[1] His two sons, Clifford Allison and Davey Allison followed him into racing, and both died within a year of each other. During the course of his career, Bobby Allison accumulated 84 victories, making him third all-time, tied with Darrell Waltrip, including three victories at the Daytona 500 in 1978, 1982 and 1988,[1] where he finished one-two with his son, Davey Allison. He was also the NASCAR Winston Cup Champion in 1983[1] driving for DiGard Racing. Additionally, Allison ran in the Indianapolis 500 twice, with a best finish of 25th in 1975.

I remember that Daytona 500 when Bobby and Davey finished 1- 2. I remember Davey saying after the race " I tried to take him that last lap, but he was just too strong".

Bobby is the reason I am a race fan. Love him! I cannot imagine losing a son - much less two - to a sport that you spent your whole life perusing.

First race I ever attended Bobby Allison won....1981 World 600. I was 9 years old. I've been to well over 100 cup races since then but I will never forget that extremely hot Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Hardee's #28 Buick driven by Bobby Allison wins and brother Donnie's career is basically ended after a crash in turn #4 involving Dick Brooks.

I think Bobby wouldve been a match for Petty and Pearson if he ran back in the 60s and 70s
