As I plan a trip to Edinburgh Scotland, I came back to listen to this - a true core memory of high school. We were so fortunate to have such an amazing men's choir and we knew it. Always proud of these men - and I hope they are all doing incredible today!
Jonathan Quick did a wonderful job with his arrangement (that's why it's so popular). This Freestate version is my favorite. It's neither tacky nor overly romantic (which makes it even more touching), it has the right timing and great dynamics. The last - forte - part drives me to tears. Always!
I have listened to countless recordings, sang this with my choir, sang it in an all state choir, and this is better than all of those things. Yeah, better than my all state choir in my opinion. Is it bad when I ALWAYS hear a cell phone in my head during the rest when I sing this?
E: I was in Chamber Choir in 2003 and 2004 and Chamber Singers in 2004, and it would be much appreciated if you could dig up any recordings from those years. We also did Exultate Justi and Loch Lomond.
Wow. This is HIGH SCHOOL?! Incredible. Where is this school? Is it Free State HS in Lawrence, KS? Wherever you guys are, congratulations on some extraordinarily fine work.
This is my school!!! :D I'm soooo proud of our choirs. As a sophomore girl at Free State I have high hopes for this year. Please thank Ms. Morton our lovely, wonderful, fantastic instructor for the great pronounciation. She's nit-picky about that, but as you can tell, it pays off big time. :)
Wonderful! Do you (or anyone else) know if they have got a CD? I'm searching for it without any success. It would be great if I could get something of that choir. M
The lacey township choir sang this song beautifully. Unfortunately they down have proper pronounciation for some words, but it was still amazing. Almost as good as this choir
Whose choirs weren't known state-wide? It's high school. And it's "heart-melting", I believe. Lol. Needless to say - I agree about the phone, and your other comments. Cheers.
Okay, don't shoot me..... but I didn't like it. There I said it. I'm sorry! It's technically near perfect. Really good voices, vowels, dynamic contrast, diction, and everything. But it was almost too precise. This piece demands a ton of emotional energy and it felt like you were just singing notes. It just felt dead to me. Again, not that you weren't good, because you were incredible, especially for high school, but it's like you put so much work into it that you squeezed all the life out.
I listened to this in high school, I still think this is one of the best recordings of this piece of music to date. Thank you for sharing

I was in this choir as well. A different time but it was still amazing. We actually did this song again my senior year. Wow I miss this....
I'll be singing this also in my choir.I love this song.
this song still can pull a tear
This is a HIGH school choir?! They are really REALLY good.
Very Interesting, we sang this for Solo Ensemble, in a Men's 8 Part Group, we got a 1 Rating, and a Best Outstanding Award
the Maryland state boychoir sings this song beautifully ... i really hope they have that song on their next CD
wow, we just preformed this for our like 4th time last night, and we're like the best in the district, but u guys totally take us by a long shot

@zekecodyjosie
Yes, I'm from Nebraska. We didn't do our best performance of Loch Lomond during the concert.
Im speechless. This is amazing!
wow this is really good. i like how you guys pronounce everything. when we sing it, we do some of the scottish pronounciations but not all.
LOVE THIS SONG!!
Remarkable. Can't believe the two soloists were high schoolers at the time!
@hannahbanana785 As great as Morton is, this was actually with Bushouse...Just saying. :)
👏 bravo!!!!!!
I would love to get a copy!
@asus1337 My men's chorus got a 1st place Gold rating and an adjudicators' award with a +95% at the Heritage Festival. Beautiful arrangement.
You should share it!!

@loydsheryl yes! we hail from lawrence. we worked really hard on this one, lol.
@steelvenom2003 Don't worry, we understand what you mean. I agree with you. It sounds amazing, but it doesn't have much feeling in it.

@William Hubber let's do some theory then, the first interval is a 5-1 jump and the 5 is a D, so the

Wonderful!

What key is this in? If it's the Jonathan Quick arrangement it should be in A flat. Any ideas?
Hi! What arrangement is this? Where can I find it?
Fabulous and very moving. Technically near perfect. I almost cried. Would like to find the idiot with the cell phone and give them a slap.
When was this recorded?
@faasprabbit GOOD EAR MAN!
@ktich518 Ooops! Silly me! YAY BUSHOUSE!!
@soldeen You should hear mine sing this.
Who is the arranger of this version?
This has probably already been answered, but I just want to be certain.
Pamela Bushouse
The correct key is F#
@wpadera Jonathan Quick
fantastic rendition, I've heard better, but it was a college choir, so it's understandable (though not much better)
