    I gotta give credit to WMATA for keeping some of the MetroBus routes and for keeping them for that far away of distance. I know they dropped a lot of routes 4-5 years ago in Fairfax County, and thankfully the Connector (with a little bit of ART and DASH) brought back the routes. They could have easily got rid of the routes and “delegate” it the Connector or RideOn.

    The Greenbelt-BWI Airport Line, Route B30 ran from Greenbelt to BWI Airport which was a whole 30 mile trip. However, this route was suspended in 2020 and eliminated in 2021.

      That was also the only metrobus route that could connect to MTA Maryland local buses.

      yeah that one was a beast, it just didn't recover like other routes so they got rid of it.

      Plus the 5A Metrobus to Dulles Airport, but they discontinued that when the Silver Line Phase 2 opened.

      I am glad B30 is being mentioned! I wanted to ride it as I was getting back and forth between Baltimore and DC and wanted to try other modes besides MARC/Amtrak. There are infrequent and indirect Central Maryland RTA routes along the corridor but there was trip cancellation when I wanted to ride. I was in BWI last year and I still saw signage of B30.

    I remember when the W19 bus used to run 24 miles from Southern Avenue to Indian Head in Charles County. It has been replaced in part by MTA Commuter Bus going directly into downtown DC. Because it was out of the WMATA compact area, the route initially remained in private hands in the 1973 public takeover. I wonder if legal issues forced the switch to MTA.

    Ugh that stroad there in Fairfax!! Too bad we have so many dangerous, unproductive, expensive to maintain stroads and so close to transit. I hope we can change for the better and move away from car dependency.

      due to my pessimistic nature, I don't see that happening anywhere in Fairfax that's not near a metro station, but remember local elections are key for things like that!

      @@sammymarrco47 That's too bad and that'sdefinitely true about local elections. Near me it'll be interesting to see how the city where I work Kingston, NY about 90 miles north of NYC does with form-based zoning and stripping all parking requirements citywide.

    Once upon a time, before the Metrobus 12 routes to Centreville, VA were handed over to Fairfax Connector, Centreville United Methodist Church Park & Ride would've been a contender for farthest Metrobus stop from the Capitol.

    The 1C/2B was my stop for like 8 years. A wildly inconsistent bus because of its route through several major traffic areas. It should run every 20 minutes, though. It SUCKED having to rely on it.

    • @sammymarrco47
      @sammymarrco47  5 месяцев назад

      yeah its a cool route but not one id want to be my only option, it got more ridership then I was expecting for midday.

    • @matthewconstantine5015
      @matthewconstantine5015 5 месяцев назад

      @@sammymarrco47 it seems to be the same story for a bunch of buses outside of the beltway. I keep hearing them say there's "low ridership," but the buses are almost always full, no matter what time of day. And that's in spite of the usual once an hour run, which makes them an option only for people with no other option (like myself).
      Metro canceled the 29W a couple years back because of "low ridership," even though it was usually standing room only by its last stop. It only started losing ridership when they switched to contractors instead of Metro drivers, and the bus, which only ran a handful of times each day, and only ran every 30 minutes, stopped showing up, or would show up 20+ minutes late. The bus was an "express" so cost $4.25, and catered largely to Pentagon employees, but became completely unreliable, so I think a lot of folks started driving or carpooling. Thankfully Fairfax Connector took up the route after Metro canceled it, but I'm not sure if they're doing better, as I think they use contractors, too. I quickly got out of the habit of using it when it was late, or didn't show up at all, three days in a row, making me very late for work.
