Good afternoon Di and Scott, it looks like you’ve started your adventure well, a question, what did you say at the toll so that the class was changed from 4 to 2 and have you had the same response from all the tolls as I’m taking my Rockwood into Brittany in the summer and want to know what I might have to overcome.
    Enjoy Spain.

      Hi John
Thank you for contacting us about this, in English we are asking them to change from HGV to Car and Caravan, simply put into French you just say "nous sommes classe duex, campeur" which translates to "we are class 2 camper". This worked every single time and we didn't have any issues.
Hope this helps you and happy travels.
      Scott & Di.

Hi guys - great video - really love these! Do you have a link to Amazon for the diesel HGV nozzle adapter?

Where abouts near murcia are you going, were just outside of murcia, a small site with just 6 spaces, called country camping, nice and quiet, and quite tight getting in , coming back here next December with our rockwood when we get it, one thing I wanted to ask you was, do you need an additional number plate from dvla, trailer registration plate, I've not heard of it before but I was watching another video from ccrv and one of their customers said they had to register their unit, also how's your ranger coping with the rockwood.
    Thanks phil

      Hi Phil
Thanks for reaching out to us, hopefully you find our videos helpful.
We are going to Alannia camping site, with the caravan club as part of a rally.
You do need to register a trailer over 3.5t to use abroad but not in the UK, you can do this here www.gov.uk/register-trailer-to-take-abroad
It’s actually pretty simple to do, then you just use the certificate to order the plate, a bit like getting one for a car.
The ranger has actually performed very well to be honest, it’s been a very smooth journey so far and we’ve done about 1000 miles in 3 days, I’m really pleased with it.

      Hi Scott & Di
Thanks for the reply, looks very easy to get the registration done, not sure why they want a government gateway, not a problem though, we have got most of our bits sorted and still a list of TO Does, all exited now, can't wait to go to ccrv on 31st Jan and choose which one we want, hopefully either a 2620ws or 8289ws, hopefully one of them will have a big enough space to fit a washer/dryer.
Hope your having a nice time in this lovely weather.
      Phil & Elley

Paul will definitely be able to help you, if you’ve not met him before he’s a great guy and I highly recommend CCRV. I would say though the extra weight of a unit that is big enough to take a washer dryer might play a factor, I’d say the 2622 is about right for a UK truck if touring, Paul will probably say the same.
I hope you find one soon and you’re joining us in the club in no time. 👍😊 We felt exactly the same, such an exciting time ahead.

@thebebbsbeat we are in the caravan club, is it a 5th wheel only get together you are at?, what was the cost of the ferry with 5th wheeler?, we usually go from Portsmouth to cherbourg and then drive down through France into Spain like you, but this time we done Portsmouth to santander, no toll roads in spain, only toll we paid was through Madrid, 95 cents, and fuel cheaper in spain.

      Hi Phil
It’s actually a rally with the caravan and motorhome club and open to all members so not a fifth wheel rally.
We took Brittany ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff, and are privilege members so with the discount it was around £250 for the crossing.
Tolls rough cost, around £100 but will do a more detailed costing of the trip in a video soon.

Thank you so much, it’s been very interesting so far as we’ve never owned any type of camping equipment before, so it’s been an eye opener for sure.

What is the difference between a class 2 and a class 4? Why does it automatically think you’re a class 4? Is that size?

    • @thebebbsbeat
      @thebebbsbeat  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Ellen
Good question, I think it’s about 5 times more expensive, so class 2 is car and caravan and class 4 is HGV which is very expensive, probably why we didn’t see many HGV’s on the toll roads 😊

The toll gates have height sensors measuring as you drive through (you'll see long poles at the gates). Anything over a certain height is picked up as a HGV. I have the same issue when towing my Buccanneer caravan with Landrover Discovery 4 with bikes on roof racks. It is the bikes that trick the tolls into thinking I'm a HGV 🤣 Not sure if having a toll tag fixes this as you'd think having your vehicle details and registration they'd know what you're driving and charge appropriately. We use a toll tag now but have not travelled with our bikes on roof racks since because we got stung the first time paying as a HGV for some part of our journey before we realised this we'd paid as HGV (and it's very expensive). The fuel is expensive enough in France (as it is here) without over paying on the tolls. But they are the routes to travel with large units. We've been driving down to Costa Brava (Roses bay) for a number of years for our annual 2 week holiday. We allow about 1.5 to 2 days travelling each way. You can tackle France by getting half way down in day one and into Spain on day 2. It's a lot of driving but we're not retired so have to get a move on (if we want to spend more time in the resort rather than travelling). It's certainly an adventure, and one I recommend 😀 Don't get me wrong, I love a sun and beach holiday by airplane, but there's nothing quite like having your own vehicle, accommodation and all your crap with you 🤣@@thebebbsbeat

      Hi David
I totally agree with that, I used to love getting away on holiday and hopping on a plane getting to the hotel and relaxing, but have to say, this is our first time towing our home on wheels with us into Europe and so far it’s gone pretty well. We are loving the fact also we have the freedom to just park up where there is space and stay for a few days if we wish, as you will see on our next video. 😊👍
