That's heartwarming to hear, Leigh! I don't recall if you're already aware, but the interactive travel episode map we have at GrandAdventure.tv is a wonderful resource for travel planning.
I wish I could watch a time-lapse video over a few million years to see how the sandstone formations came to look the way they do. I could spend many days (and many beers) just sitting in that area staring at the mountains and rock formations. The area along the southern point of Nevada and north western Arizona are some of my favorite in the world.
Watched this one again now that we've had a chance to visit VoF ourselves. Wow, what a place! We also hiked Mouse's Tank and we did Fire Wave too. Amazing place, hope to visit again someday.
It's perfect for that. There are other spots closer to Vegas within Lake Mead NRA, like Government Wash, but the closer you are to Vegas, the more likely that you'll have tweakers for camping neighbors.
I don’t know how it is where you live, but we have a lot of those kind of “campers” near us now. There are many run down motor homes parked in shopping centers and back streets where we live. However I did see a special where it showed people with good paying jobs, like at Google, who could not afford to live in the Bay Area and would live in their car during the week and go home in the valley on the weekends.
These early videos are Amazing where they open on your camp all by itself!! I Love it! Also impressive is the time you take into learning about the areas . How much of this area is open to boondocking?
Darisan, virtually all of the National Recreation Area is open for boondocking. We're glad that you're enjoying these early episodes; as perfectionists, we find some of these early efforts cringe-worthy. 😄
Hi there! I really enjoy your channel. My dad and I went on a 30 day Road Trip September 2019. Lake Mead NRA and the Valley of Fire SP were stops for us. We actually started out just east of Zion that morning, spending about two hours exploring. I had a hummingbird encounter here!! From Zion we went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and along the Bright Angel trail for about an hour or so. It was from there that we ventured to the Valley of Fire State Park. It was 107 degrees as the sun was setting with the wind blowing. Growing up in West Virginia (some isolated places worth venturing to), I have never experienced the sensation in which the car stayed cooler than the outside, strong a strange sensation. We went down to Lake Mead before we cut back through the Valley of Fire to i15 to head to Vegas in which we stayed with a friend of my dads. We spent $0 in Vegas. No gas, no water, no food. I wish I would have videoed the whole thing but as I drove 90% of the 9,663 miles we drove I could not film. It just means I have to return!! I am looking forward to doing it next time in a larger vehicle (we did it in a Hyuandai Accent) and seeing more secluded places. UTAH was one of our FAVORITE states on the entire trip.
Sounds like a wonderful trip, Elysse! And a terrific memory to share with your father. September is a tough time at lower elevations in the desert Southwest, such as you encountered at VOF and Lake Mead. Personally, we recreate at altitude for cooler temperatures until mid-October, but you got to see these places when you had the opportunity. Good on you!
@@GrandAdventure Thank you for your reply! Your channel is helping me learn about some new places during this quarantine time. Yeah, it was a little tough but we had plenty of water! and dipping our feet in Lake Mead was magical. Arriving in our friend's home into the AC was also magical. I have started at the beginning of your channel so it should keep me occupied for a while. Cheers!
@@GrandAdventure it's all a learning process! I edited a video to upload for the first time about two weeks ago. It took so much effort, and it was by no means perfect. && Love your doggies btw!!!
@@elyssethekraken4143 they're good girls! Or were...we lost Maggie (the golden retriever) last summer, but we cherish the time that we had to spend with her. Come to think of it, this video, too, is one of those embarrassing early efforts. And yes, we basically budget an hour of work for each minute of final video -- it's a ton of effort. For the sake of comparison, here's the new video that published overnight: ruclips.net/video/eA7QPao9eho/видео.html
My brother and his wife camped at Valley of Fire last year and loved it. I got to drive through it in 2011, it's gorgeous and had some great campsites. I camped at Lake Mead and had a great time though next time I'd like a campsite like yours, right on the water like that, primo. Your videos are great!
Thank you Zanobia, you're too kind! However, you're watching our very early videos, and we'd like to think that we've gotten much better at them since then! 😉 We put out a new episode every Wednesday evening (tomorrow night is Joshua Tree National Park/Palm Springs), and here are all of our episodes in reverse chronological order ruclips.net/p/PLjEHCrqmvs1_DLCzuMwWnK2rpG8bp-G7x . I think you may particularly enjoy the Death Valley one!
You find some incredible sites I'll tell ya! Loving your channel! You give great insights as we watch, I love that and have started doing that more now watching it!
Thank you so much! No, not a lot of concerns as we tend to avoid the loose rocky areas favored by rattlesnakes. If we did, there's a vaccine available to help protect dogs from rattlesnake bites.
Thanks! Very useful info. It's not a situation we tend to be concerned with here in the north, but as we start planning our trips further south, these are the topics we're trying to become better educated on before hand! Keep the great videos coming.
Just started watching your UTube channel. The problem we have with episode 5-0 are we can’t hear you without turning the volume very loud. It your background music is to loud. We are hoping you work on your sounds the further we watch other episodes. We still enjoyed the first five.
Absolutely Kenneth! We agree completely, and getting our audio levels right was an issue early on. This was only the 5th video we made, and we're certain that you'll find episodes from the past couple of years to be much more polished. Thanks for sharing your input!
We can, and we have. This was our very first videos, and it shows. However, you'll find a much more polished product on our current episodes, now 3 years later presently up to #162.
Chris Lonsberry aaahhh... Sorry. It's in the video description -- artist, title & publisher. They were a Tucson band in the 80s known variously as the Sidewinders or Sand Rubies. Probably saw them more often in college than any other band. Good guys. They were popular in Europe, particularly Germany, less so here. According to FB, lead singer David Slutes is now a plumber in Arizona. Guitarist Rich Hopkins still records as the Luminarios. Due to RUclips rules they get all royalties from this video due to copyright, but I'm fine with that, I wanted to use their music.
5 years later, still referring to Grand Adventure as our primary source of information! Cheers Marc, from the 2 Tasmanians

It's a beautiful area for sure, Mike, albeit in its own stark, barren beauty that's all too easy to immerse yourself in.
Another super cool video! I can’t wait!, 😀 thank you
