I have just taken delivery on a new wet suit and found this video because I felt it was too tight and uncomfortable. Thank you for clearing this up, it was nearly being sent back.
Yeah good video, I’ve just bought my first wetsuit, tried it on when I got home and felt like a sausage that was about to explode. But definitely better once I got into the water ✊
I just purchased a wetsuit and had doubts because it felt a little around too tight around the chest at the store. This makes me feel like perhaps I didn't choose the wrong size after all.
Yeah my wetsuit is bordering on choking and it does a good job of keeping the water out. After 3 winters I got the maker to renew the neck and use thicker material and it worked.
So true. I'm 1m80, 77.5 kg. I got a Size 7 Orca Equip (2021) and it is kind tight getting on - particularly around my [broad/manly] shoulders. Looks like a little kid's wetsuit hanging up... but I tell ya, it's great in the water. I use it for openwater swimming, 3km per outing and it is not too tight and very flexible in the arms.
Hi My chest is 110cm, waist is 82cm. I bought size M which feels too tight on my chest as size M chest is 99-104, but waist fits perfect. If I to change it for Large, chest should be fine, but waist will be too big as L waist is 84-89. What do you recommend, change for loose waist, or hope for chest/shoulders to stretch? Note, I only tried it in a room, I heard it loosens up in water too
When you are a woman it's even harder. We have boobs and curves and weight changes. Wetsuits are not made for curves. The weight does not match the height on charts for many women.
I am just over 6ft tall and a UK dress size 12-14 and I can’t find anywhere that sells a single wetsuit that I could get into. Any advice for me? I guess it wouldn’t be wise to resort to a men’s wetsuit as the fit would be way off. I don’t want to give up yet…
I found one that's usually $260 and is up for $50 brand new. Fits amazing lower half but is very baggy around the arms and chest... idk what size to get
I would go one size smaller. If it is baggy it will not keep you as warm and will give you a rash. Always fit your wetsuit as comfortably snug as possible because they will grow in size once they get in the water. Hope this helps. Happy surfing!
Really helpful, thanks! In my case, i still have doubts though...it does fit fine everywhere except for the neck...really uncomfortable, a feeling somebody's choking you all the time...then i put on one size bigger (from M to ML short) - it fits ok as well and the neck feeling is much better...the question is - will the neck stretch a bit in the water for the smaller size or should i stay with the bigger size? Thanks in advance!
Any advice for sleeveless suits? I just got the roka elite and it's great but Im between size S and M and the S is borderline restrictive. I'm thinking of staying with it because the water should help it sort it out
Hey I was looking buell suits today I have a qs cuz there size is pretty standard with what we have in Santa Cruz CA. I'm 6ft 240 xxl feels good in the torso and chest zip but way to long in the arms and legs xxl 6,1 to 6,3 and up to 230lbs now I tried a XL and that is 5,10 to 6,1 and 210lbs fit great as far as leng but was super tight in the biceps chest and neck had to stretch the chest zip into place. I'm more husky then fat. Any suggestions? How important is weight.
i ordered a Ripcurl flashbomb size 6 initially but it was bit too tall for me and lots of extra materials around my elbows and back of my knees. Then i replaced it with a size 4 which turned out to be quite tight, to an extent that I feel restrictive around my shoulders. But still I took size 4 in the end. Hopefully it will stretch in the water and in time.
for kayaking [on cold water] do not buy a wetsuit that is tight and 'feels a bit uncomfortable' [as the advice here] because, hopefully, you won't spend time in the water to get it wet and have it stretch. I made the mistake of doing that but this presentation helped understand my error of judgment.
Any advice for short women? Being 160cm x 53kg (I could lose 2-3 kg or so but I’m also a bit muscly), with more booty than chest is hard. - men wetsuits are not an option - boys wetsuits have a non existent booty area (believe me, I’ve used them consistently) - women wetsuits are too “tall” and big on the chest area - maybe girls wetsuits but can’t try them on unless I order it on the internet and that’s a pain in the ass. also there’s very little choice
What if your chest size is 2-1/2" wider than on the specs? Im 5'7" 150lbs but chest is 39-1/2". picked up my first wetsuit volcom 3/2 modulater MS. Their rash guard in medium is really tight in the upper back. The medium is supposed to be 155lbs.
I bought a wetsuit, a juniors one ( I am a small woman) however I think it is a bit too tight... When I put it on I feel discomfort yes, but even my hands start to show vains, I guess from the pressure of the suit and tight fit. The wet suit was used by my cousine so I guess it is not "new" and strtched already a bit. Do you think I should skip it all together and get a proper womens fit? Thank you in advance :)
When you say boarding on restrictive at the shoulders, when I put it on it is quite a bit of a struggle. When I go to take it off, it feels almost impossible, almost like it is going to rip at the stitches. Sounds too restrictive?? Or ok for brand new and dry? It really doesn't seem that healthy taking it off. Also a lot of space at the small of the back (not baggy, ie no folds, but no skin contact).
It should be pretty restrictive. Not tearing the seams but close........this is when they are new because as you wear this wetsuit it will grow in size.
Hi, guys, thank you for the tips! I need your advice. I am about to return my new Billabong wetsuit size 8. The thing is that I felt really uncomfortable while putting it on! Size must be alright according to the size chart, I am 169cm high, 90h-65w-85c, 55kg is my current weight. When I rented wetsuits I was always choosing S even XS and felt awesome in the water, I am the same size now. Do you think 8 is alright size for me? Like I mean, if it is ok for the wetsuit to be tight in shoulders for the first time? Then I would keep it =). I would really appreciate your opinion!
Li Ko I was watching another size guide from shore and for women they said that their normal clothes size is what you would go for. So if your clothes is size 8 then a wetsuit size 8 should be ok.
I bought a $400 that was too big. I wore a medium (I'm 5'9, 170lb) and it was tight around chest, so I said its tight and the guy said go large then with no hesitation. It is loose now. Too many store owners don't fking know
What about bulge under the armpits? I bought online a Billabong wetsuit. Size Small (Billabong's smallest size). I'm 150lbs and their size chart says size Small is for people up to 150lbs. Everything fits very tight except for under the armpits where there is a bulge. With me it's even slightly more baggy than your model in this video in the armpits. You can see the neoprene protruding on both the front and back. I have a smaller than average chest (35") but I have an Oneill Small wetsuit and the bulge is minimal compared to the Billabong. Should I return the Billabong wetsuit or keep it?
Each wetsuit brand has a different style of cut and taper. If O’Neill is better for you, chances are you should stick with O’Neill products. Try on all the different brands at the same size, and find the best cut for you and stick with that brand.
Every wetsuit brand is different in size, you can look online for the size chart of the specific brand you're looking at, but if possible, I'd HIGHLY recommend trying some suits on in person before you buy one.

Good info. Thanks. Was about to return mine as too small, which I dry tried at home. I guess I will try it in the water now.
same, thanks for making this vid
how did it go? did the wetsuit stretched in the water?

Shoulders on men’s are perfect for me too but they said I was too short. I’m checking out Japanese men’s wetsuits if I ever do a chest zip
i have wide shoulders so my chest is 39" 5'7" tall and 150lbs volcom says i need a medium short.

@@Speenard volcom fits me very well! built very well for the price. i also ordered a 4/3 backzip during volcoms black fridays clearance sale.

Buying a wetsuit has been one of the most frustrating things I had to experience so far

Just buy a wetsuit for the size you are now. Most of the time nobody "loses a bit" and you'll just wait forever
