    This guy needs some kind of award or something.
    PS. In a straight, manly way, I kinda love this guy. His talk here almost brought a tear to my eye because of just how passionate and committed he is to making VR happen, and the way he talks and enthuses about VR makes the kid in me feel the kind of magic and wonder I felt as an actual kid once again.
    Seriously, make him a f'n badge or something!

      Not sure what is going on here, I have watched this talk posted several time from different people and they are all like this one, it is terrible! I have friends that live stream stuff all the time and it looks better than this billion dollar companies talk? WTF! Maybe the FB live stream was this bad with all the people trying to watch it, but they should be able to release a better version somehow.

    So Facebook/Oculus have essentially become another Palo Alto Research Center which is good for progress but bad for the consumer. Facebook could have easily produced a very compelling Rift 2.0 with TODAYS VR capabilities but they have chosen to be largely irrelevant to the consumer. I do like the direction of the prototypes but they are taking so long that when they do eventually produce an HMD, it had better be bloody fantastic otherwise they may not get another opportunity.

    • @RichardStrong86
      @RichardStrong86 5 лет назад +12

      I don't think their work is irrelevant to the consumer when the likes of the Quest is selling so well. It might be inconsequential to someone like you who wants the bleeding edge of technology but that kind of thinking doesn't lend itself well to mass adoption.

    • @NICKCIN
      @NICKCIN 5 лет назад +11

      they have chosen to be largely irrelevant to the consumer
      as a broke high schooler, I strongly disagree with you there, they are super relevant now, because standalone is basically the only option for a large amount of people who don't have any money for a PC. I'm super excited that my quest can now connect with my PC and also finger tracking!

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional 5 лет назад +9

      It's almost as if you haven't watched the video showing all the amazing progress they're making with the current Oculus Quest, some of which has already made it pretty much a total replacement for even the Rift (such as the optional Oculus Link that lets you tether it to a desktop PC and get the full VR experience with all those Rift games and stuff), and it's just getting better every day. Also, we know fine well the likes of Quest 2 will be here in only a few years, and if the Quest is where it's at now already then Quest 2 is just going to be amazing. These guys are both pointing the way to the future for everyone else and building the consumer products that will be part of it.

    Not a single word about data privacy. This is key for those future vision about collaborative spaces . and Facebook is NOT the company I would trust with data privacy, at all. In fact , for that reason I will never touch a faceboculus headset. Sorry FB: trust is lost forever.

    • @dominicgunderson
      @dominicgunderson 5 лет назад +4

      Honestly why care though. Online privacy doesn't really exist anymore

    • @emmanueloluga9770
      @emmanueloluga9770 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, honestly I am not bothered by his lack of mention of it. What bothers and would bother me is the public's ignorance, oblivion, and unawareness of this component. Data is the past, present, and future and its importance should be ingrained from child birth and infancy, no talk or key note is responsible for pointing it out.
      Simply put, everyone should always be at alert and concerned about data no matter the situation.
      In fact, this is my main gripe with 5G, nothing is scarier than someone else having access and control to your data without your knowledge at the speeds 5G and higher would allow

  • @hercion
    @hercion 5 лет назад +1

    Nobody above 35 really needs farivocal displays, because the eye lenses loose their elasticity and can't properly focus anymore, anyway..

    • @hercion
      @hercion 5 лет назад

      In fact, I personally have no problem with fixed focus displays. And I really can imagine that farivocal displays will strain the eyes much more than fixed focus displays . before all that farivocal stuff ( that admittedly might be important for kids and young pals) I badly wish just a diopter compensation for consumer VR. Come on guys - it's just a knob to turn to adjust focus .. One of the few pros of the XTAL is the focus knob !

    • @hercion
      @hercion 5 лет назад +1

      P.s. how much light does the electronic farivocal lens swallows ? I am a bit sceptical . and about costs.. Will we see anytime soon such lenses? I doubt it

    I’m starting to doubt these grand visions for the future of VR. No matter how good the headsets get, you’ve still got something strapped to your face. It’s just not how humans exist or ever will. It would be sad to never leave your house for work and just become a lump of meat sat in an arm chair existing virtually. Even if you recreate the surrounding environment on screen, that’s terrible. It’s not REAL. We should be looking at the REAL world with our own eyes. The only way I could ever see this working is if the technology could be so small that it exists in a regular pair of glasses that looked identical to regular glasses. Otherwise, it’s just simply never gonna work.

    • @TheMillionDollarDropout
      @TheMillionDollarDropout 5 лет назад

      Definitely gotta be somehow embedded in something lighter like a pair of glasses, I personally only really believe in AR to be the true future. Imagine something like the old GOOGLE GLASSES where you can load up, I don't know... A zombie game in the real world, suddenly old cars get placed in the middle of the road, backpacks and cases, and boxes appear on sidewalks or something and can be looted for weapons. Suddenly you're IN THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. The only downside to this kind of thing is I don't know how hard it would be to make sure players know what's real and what isn't (for example a car coming down the road lmao) I would personally get out go to a giant public park with a great open field just to be able to experience this kind of thing without the danger of getting run over or some shit haha. That's my vision TBH, I can see it happening one day. I love zombie games and if it could fit into something like a pair of high tech glasses that'd be so fucking sick. I think VR at home is good but it's going to end up with everyone fat, sick, and dying by the time they hit 40 because they will never get outside or anything at all.

    • @coprice94
      @coprice94 4 года назад +1

      AR is the future just a pair of glasses

    • @nejihiashi
      @nejihiashi 4 года назад

      ar alone is bad and won't happen but vr and ar mixing will be the future, ar suffer from low processing power because it need to be small and nearly non existent and that will make the hardware suffer.
