What an excellent vlog. I'm a part time PhD student with teenage kids and a busy husband. I laughed at the "beans on toast" and dirty house part- spot on! I'm going to try the Sunday planning idea. My biggest challenge is feeling that I need to spend all waking hours on my project. Having specific time slots might help with the niggling anxiety.

What a wonderful vlog. I am planning a part time PhD. My ambitions have been met with apprehension from other professionals (almost a form of stigma) around part time studies. I guess it speaks to the business model of universities, the differences in supervisors/ capacity to supervise part time students, and academic and sectoral traditions. I'm always happy to find people who have managed to complete part time PhDs. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

@Tara, Academia needs more people like you who are invested in their students and researchers. So many senior academics are so discouraging about pursuing a part-time PhD. Glad I came across your vlog, it's giving me the confidence to go after it. thanks

I have watched this video a year ago and it was very useful at the time eventhough I was not a part time phd student. I got married two weeks ago and my live changed completely. It is so overwhelming to try to find a balance between my married life, my phd, financies and trying to find a job. Rewatching this video helped a lot. Now I think I know what to do to find the perfect balance. Thank you Tara. I really appreciate you. You have impacted my life in soooo many ways!

Wow, this sounds as if you completed your Ph.D. in one year and 10 months Tara! That is incredible!

I studied part time because I could not afford the full time fees. I paid the same in the long run, but it was just about affordable.

This is such a good one for me and I am wondering why and how I did not come cross this vlog before. I converted from full-time to part-time after I started working and then, life happened, I had to start care giving for my mother since she fell sick. All three things together took a huge toll on me but I am still trying to push through and get my first draft on time in the next one month. My problem now is - I am trying to squeeze too much work in too little time and some days I just cannot write. Guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you, Tara!

in planning out your time, are you recommending 30 min, 1 or 2 hrs every other day or every day? Thanks so much!

Wow - impact on meals, cleaning and parental availability really hit home. I have been skirting around this one, trying to convince myself that those things will not be affected. But of course, they will. (Currently completing a part-time MRes and hoping to start a part-time PhD in September - so I MUST sort this issue out). Thank you for being frank about the realities of a part-time PhD and the strategies needed.

Hello Ma'am I am enrolled into full-time Ph.D in food science. I have just submitted my synopsis so no lab work done yet. also in another year my fellowship will stop. At present I have been offered a permanent job nearby. I am planning to convert my full time PhD into part-time but I am a bit fearing about whether I will be able to do my experiments and complete my PhD well in time. Kindly guide me
