I love how everyone that I've seen recreate that video but tries to substitute a thing or two ends up going to the store and redoing the whole recipe *perfectly*.

For anyone who wants to make these: He didn't let the butter cool enough so that's why they're greasy. Let the butter cool for at least 1.5 hours. Obviously don't use 100% cocoa. Use semi-sweet chocolate chips with 60-70% dark cocoa like he did in the second try. The big issue with his is that he didn't let the butter set enough
Boggy Bunny he shouldn’t have used dark brown sugar as well. Should have used light brown
Also he used espresso not espresso powder.

I really respect the fact that he went the extra mile to remake the cookies instead of just posting the first attempt.

Using salted butter isn't really much of a problem... you just need to know how much is in it
TheDeathmail some people tried this recipe and they said they used salted butter, which burns easily. So it’s much better if you use unsalted butter.

Tillysnow1 I like dark chocolate but 100% is too much. 80% is great! When I bake cookies, I take 1 regular milk chocolate Hershey bar, some semi sweet chocolate chips you’d find at any store, and a dark chocolate bar. I chop it all up and toss it in the dough and it’s SO GOOD.

Strangely my "dough" became a lot more runny than theirs, too. I followed their exact recipe. They turned out flat and pretty soft but they tasted really great nevertheless.

Since I saw this recipe on tasty, this is the only way I make chocolate chip cookies and I don't think I'll ever switch to another recipe. I think this is as good as a chocolate chip cookie can get.
I actually made cookies by following the recipe of BuzzFeed and all of my friends loved it. I am not a sweet lover in fact I feel nauseous after eating too much sweet but really enjoyed eating this.
Edited: I used 55% chocolate because I couldn't find any bitter than that. And it does a really good job.

I only tweaked the recipe a little. I know it said unsalted butter in the original recipe but, salted butter tastes WAY better (even with the original amount of kosher salt added). Then I also put both baking powder and baking soda. (Same amount) and I went ahead and put both the eggs whole. These were so soft and delicious, some of the best cookies i've ever had!
And don't use the water, just add more butter, everytime I've used water I had to add more flour.

I died at that clip of the overflowing butter, I just watched that video and I was like girl what the hell are u doin!!! Pull it off the heat! lol
You should use light brown sugar than cookies won't be so dark
My recipe is similar, I don’t use bread flour I use plain , some salt, melted butter,, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder, brown sugar (if not then caster sugar), granulated sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon and one egg. They do one out pretty great and come out fluffy and large.
I also did this recipe and turned out different 😂
But one thing it has in common is the flavor, they’re really delicious !
I made these and what I found is that like 62% chocolate is better than 85-100% cocoa, I had to add 1cup bread and 1 cup AP flour and most of all, do smaller cookies and they turn out much better.

Honest to god I made this recipe yesterday used that exact 100% cacao bar and they turned out great! I did vary from the recipe slightly however and didn’t use bread flour (just all purpose), completely ignored the espresso powder, and used light instead of dark brown sugar. The super dark chocolate was intense when you got a bite full of it, but the cookies I made mostly balanced out the bitterness with sweetness. I even used salted butter too! Idk what happened to yours lol
Literally watched the original and attempted them about 2 hours ago and holy sh1t it went very bad
I’ve only tried 2 recipes from Tasty but they both turned out bad😭

Buster The Bear I didn’t like them when I made them. Mine didn’t look flat like his did when they were done. They also just tasted weird. I went for Tasty’s best chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe and that turned out better
There's too many things that can go wrong with them... I def wouldn't be able to properly brown the butter on the first try. And adding espresso is just weird.

I made them, but instead bread flour I used normal all-purpose. They were delicious, chewy, sweet and pretty flat unlike David's. I think that salted butter and too bitter chocolate could screw it up.

Wait a minute... I thought you had a stand mixer?
I think the reason your dough came out runnier was because you used a hand mixer the whole time and maybe should've stuck to a spoon, but it looked fine after you put it in the fridge.
Also the chocolate chunks melted better because chocolate chips are formulated to maintain their shape when baking (that's why they're harder to melt over a double boiler and stuff).

My dough batter was the same consistency as yours too! I added slightly more flour and stuck them into the fridge for a couple hours to firm up. And they were dark and greasy like yours too....
It's greasy because your butter was hot.

Tips:
- Hit/drop the sheet with the cookies while they are in the oven, for those fancy cracks
- use part Bread flour (manitoba would do)
- Butter quality maters. American Butter is often shit for baking because it contains way too much water, hence the bubbling.
- With good quality butter it isn't needed to add water after browning, you would just have lost 1-5G by weight which isnt an issue. lossing more than that is just a sign your butter was Bad/American
- Brown about 2/3's of the butter, keep the other 1/3'th on the counter top. After the browned butter is just warm enough to melt the cold butter (luke warm) Stir the hard butter in, you would get a opaque mixture, which is easier to cream
- NEVER use both salt and salted butter
- High cacoa Dark chocolat is fine (it isn't 100% cacoa though), just make sure you add enough sugar to compensate. However 60-80% is mostly the best way to go

The chunks of chocolate melts faster because it have a higher coco butter content and chocolate chips are specially made so they don’t loose their shape when they melt they melt at higher temp

For anyone having troubleshooting with cookie dough being too runny, just add more bread flour until it's a really soft dough but not sticky. It's what i did, and after they were cooled down they were still extremely chewy and soft.
