Fun talk. 💞 You guys are hilarious.
As a hard core Frank Zappa fan since the mid 80s, her book puts the remaining pieces of the puzzle in place. As a teen, I looked up to the man. Later, I began to sense there was something darker I wasn't seeing. Then the biographies began to show up in the early 00s, and I began to see the broad outlines of something really dark and unpleasant. The the documentary was released a few years ago. That filled in a lot of the remaining pieces. That was followed by all the acrimony in the wake of Gail's death and the four kids being at odds. The Pauline Butcher Bird's book confirmed many things. Now with Moon's book, the things that no one had the courage to say have been said, and we can see the man for the very flawed person he was. Musical genius to be sure, but a failure in the human being department. I still love his music, even if I wouldn't want to meet the man if I could.
it wasnt that hidden, theres an early interview with frank where hes talking about being with groupies and the interviewer is like "doesnt that mak eyour wife angry", and he says "well she grumbles every now and then but what are you gonna do". frank had issues but he didnt keep it a secret. he just didnt care about anyone but himself
I'm midway through this, and these guys are cracking me up! I need to order the book.....To Add: When I was young, I wished my parents were more liberal about parenting-like many of the famous laurel canyon parents- I have come to appreciate that they were not. I will bet my bottom dollar that Ahmet and Moon are great parents.
A rare interview I recorded with Frank in 1974 is very revealing. He goes into some detail about a concert rampage inn Germany. He also rants about Jimmy Carl Black and the Mothers. Its on my channel (KBOO radio Playlists).
It would be fascinating to hear them sitting around telling about the different childhoods they all had. No two siblings ever grow up in the same family. For one thing, there is a different parent-child dynamic; for another, none of my siblings have themselves as their sibling, just as I haven't experienced myself from the outside. And the older kids had younger, poorer, more active parents than I did.... It's fascinating with a "regular" family, and the Zappas are not your ordinary family.
Oh my gosh! I SOOO want to see the Whiney Babies skit on SNL!! Funny stuff for sure. Also, this is such a great interview. I've listened to the book on Audible and couldn't 'put it down'. Great story telling Moon!! So much courage it had to take to put this much out there and I have to say, I have really learned a lot.
The familial complexities surrounding Frank Zappa, as depicted in the book Earth to Moon: A Memoir, resemble a cautionary tale reminiscent of Shakespeare, intertwining themes of wealth, artistry, and treachery. This narrative resonates deeply, evoking a sense of discomfort that feels strikingly authentic. Ahmet's assertion that "it is so messed up" reflects a dynamic that is all too familiar to my own family experiences. The sibling rivalry and strategic maneuvers aimed at garnering paternal attention evoke poignant memories of unfulfilled aspirations from my past. I can only speculate about the years of therapeutic counseling and self-reflection that have contributed to the cathartic journey of sharing these narratives. I extend my best wishes to all involved, hoping that the specters of the past remain undisturbed, confined to their rightful place in history. Take care.
He might be, for whatever reason , Gail dabbas eldest two children got no inheritance, just the two younger. Frank Zappa wasn't into such favoritism, as his wife, I don't think the two oldest has got any inheritance yet, but Moon unit has written thus book.

But they are honest by intention, or else they're VERY good actors.

He’s human as we all are , & nobody’s perfect . Nobody.
it wasnt that hidden, theres an early interview with frank where hes talking about being with groupies and the interviewer is like "doesnt that mak eyour wife angry", and he says "well she grumbles every now and then but what are you gonna do". frank had issues but he didnt keep it a secret. he just didnt care about anyone but himself
There's still time to do a family memoir.
Can't wait to read this. All the reviews and extracts I've read have been excellent
Thanks for watching!
love this comment. thank you.
Take care.
I have been Moon Units #1 fan and loved loved loved America the Beautiful and loving the new book so much
She’s gorgeous!
Geez. Let Moon talk.
He’s afraid she’ll bring up the will … 😬
He might be, for whatever reason , Gail dabbas eldest two children got no inheritance, just the two younger. Frank Zappa wasn't into such favoritism, as his wife, I don't think the two oldest has got any inheritance yet, but Moon unit has written thus book.
5:30 Best Interview Ever❤❤Feel like I’ve known you all my life xxx thank you 🙏 I
Love this conversation & feel so much more human for the experience ❤
you get us
@@RocktailsRadio I love ❤️ you ALL xxx my 18 yo son found a FZ sample on Mad Villain album this week & I’m loving Earth to Moon bought on your brothers birthday yesterday so I read!! Go well You Beautiful People xx
As a Frank fan, I was worried I might stop after his chapters, but nope. About to finish it. Well done, Moon. :)
Don't think Moon got enough time to talk in this interview.
Yeah. They were talking over her.
Agree.
Of course they didn’t. Ahmet likes the sound of his own voice too much.
c'mon people! we've now done 3 shows with Moon and she will do more. Give us a freegin break........
I thought this was an interview of Moon? what happened?
If only Ahmet would have let Moon speak more.....
Seemed he was overcompensating and rather domineering. I hope he can grow and the remaining family can find peace and healing. It's so so hard when families are fractured, as too many of us know.
I have seen her interviewed by other people enough that I appreciate the family dynamic they share here.
That is, how they interact is informative.
That may be true, but it seems like they genuinely love eachother, which was nice to see after all that's come out
@@DoomKid I agree with you. I don't think any of that was for effect. I think they're both consciously honest. I wanted to stop short of saying "brutally;" I think you could say that of Frank, and possibly some others, but I think these two are both honest and kind. But they are honest by intention, or else they're VERY good actors.
Ahmet sounds confused and illiterate. He’s painful to listen to. Love Moon though.
Thank you! Best wishes to you all!
I can't wait to get my copy of Moon's book! A Zappa version of Motley's The Dirt would have been great.
The dirt is out. It’s called The Real Frank Zappa Book.
This is the first episode I have seen. As a fan of the Zappas, I need this book, and intend to get it soon, having read her first book and heard a Triple J interview promoting it. Moon deserves much success with this!!
agereed
The Ahmet Zappa Show, ep. “I invited my sister to hear me talk”.
Ain’t that the damn truth.
the story she shares about her daughter in the book was so scary and the bailing of ex-hubbie, 'Doucette' was hint from the creator.
Thanks for filling in the blanks, happy to see you both laugh?
Be well
Thanks David. A real beauty! I have been trying the Heritage paints and am beginning to understand.
Goes without saying that, as all in this thread, I am a HUGE fan of their fathers’ monumental contribution to how we listen to sound…..but at what cost? I am overjoyed to see two of the Zappa children proving the most overused adage eternally….Love Conquers All!!! I pray that they could all sit down someday soon…..but please record it!!!! This was masterful!!!!!!
Happy Autumn Equinox, Ahmet, Moon + Co. What a fun chat. I was laughing very hard, so grateful to witness; we made it. The shit that went on was so intensely off in both our homes, so painful, so hidden, and unacceptable. Now, it has all been composted by your commitment to gold, the only gold: truth, honesty, and finding the kernel of funniness in it all. I am so happy to read your book, Moon, to know the celebration of life you are, to feel the journey, the healing, and to laugh with you now. I love seeing Ahmet in his sincerity, such a sweet human, all grown up. I spent my whole life answering people who asked me your name, Ahmet, wrongly. I always thought it was "Ahmet Mocha Rodin!" Like the latte and the artist, Ha...oh, well, It is all clear now! I Love you both. Your WW Drive neighbor, at 7944; 1971 - 2018. It’s called narcissism
looking forward to reading the book!
Wow, Moon still looks good for not seeing her since probably the 80’s on TV and maybe interviews and stuff like that. And still seems like a cool chic! 🤘🏼✌🏼
I love Frank seen him and Dweezil live, Moon is beautiful and I've had a crush on her for years. It's sad how they never called them Mum or Dad once but maybe i understand. Watching from Liverpool England and loving it.
I'm a huge fan of the 20%ers.
hello, hearing you guys talking about your childhood, makes me understand that everybody has had a strange childhood, it's just great, makes us who we are👍
5:20 The funniest cutaway to a book I’ve ever seen right here 👆🏻
Its a great book
Love Frank in the background..." Reeking buns of Angel..."
talk to the guy above who said we should cut the music and how annoying it is.... this comment section is brutal i tell ya
I’m mad at Gail, and I don’t even know why yet….😅😮
Great book, great lovely Brothers!
