I remember getting the NES version of this for Christmas one year, me and my sister used to play it constantly because we were both huge TMNT fans. Good memories...
This game was brand new when Chesapeake Square Mall opened in 1989. I was completely in awe of the big, smooth animations and colorful graphics. It looked just like the cartoon! I was only 9, and there was always a massive huddle of teenagers around the machine. I don't think I ever got to play it until Street Fighter II was released and the crowd migrated to that cabinet instead.
I loved those Ninja turtles cards. When I was in middle school my school bus would take well over an hour to drop me off so I would walk home and stop at this Mini-mart on the way. I'd pick up some candy, a pack of baseball, Garbage Pail kids, and ninja turtle cards. I went so often that I managed to collect the whole set of both series 1 and 2.
Ah, I try to play this every month on my homemade mame arcade cabinet. Must have wasted 300 bucks in quarters at the local food lion on this game growing up.
I remember there was a Wal-Mart nearby that had this, Street Fighter 2, and the Avengers cabinet. Good times! edit: dude, Mike I had those cards, too. Internet high-five!
Cartoon All Stars to the rescue! OMG I forgot about that. They showed us that in like 7th or 8th grade. All the boys got pumped when Michelangelo came on.
Granitor was only in one episode of the 80's cartoon - the season 1 episode where he and Traag are chasing the Neutrinos. I don't remember if they ever say his name in that episode. He is named in the booklet for the NES version of Turtles II though...that's where I always remembered his name from.
This game, Simpsons, and WWF Royal Rumble were always favorites. And yes, the NES game had 1-2 extra stages.. I know of 1 extra boss. The guy with the head that flies around, near the end of the game.
In my opinion, this was the best port the NES ever got. Fuck, they even added a couple slick levels. Konami did everything right with this one. Probably my favorite NES game for nostalgic reasons.
You have to take risks and be bold in order to have a fun adult life. The trap isn't adulthood, it's safety, comfort, and routine. Stopping yourself from trying stuff because you don't wanna disturb these three things. Life is fucking great man! Cherish every moment, and think about what makes you deeply happy.
Playing this game now, you really realize how it was made to steal your quarters. Especially the boss battles. Its like, as soon as you get a hit on a boss, they instantly counter and smack you across the screen. There is no block button, so you are pretty limited
Beat this not too long ago on my Mame arcade. Sweet, sweet memories. Back in the day we used to play this at our local Pizza Hut. Simple game but hella fun.
That was one of the best arcades ever! How bout the toy pizza thrower! My one friend had it and his mom would get pissed when we shot the toy pizzas at the cats! lol
back in the day the Krang/Shredder fight took SO MANY QUARTERS from people. I remember this one time I saw the game beat back in the 80's by 4 dudes and they kept dumping quarters after quarters after quarters lol I still remember it. And when there's 4 players Shredder splits into 4.
How fun was blowing your whole arcade funds on this game? Lol. My brother and I would go to keansburg boardwalk and seaside and point pleasant a few years later and get 20 bucks each in quarters while my aunt would play slots or something. This game that Aerosmith gun game lol, afterburner and the Simpsons game were some of my favorites!
Played this so many times, so many quarters. Years ago when I went with my mom to shop and they had this arcade in the front. I use to play it a lot. Never beat the arcade one though.
I love how turtles can withstand being shot over and over by a machine gun. Btw, does the special 1 hit KO move from the NES not work on the Arcade? (Where you hit a and b almost simultaneously)
TMNT Turtles In Time (Snes) was the last game i completed in 2015 I done a multiplayer game over the netplay feature with someone over in holland, it worked great.
I miss beat them up games like this. Co op games like this were my favorite growing up they need to make more of this but like super long and hella different moves or something
I agree with you Mike. this was in every arcade around me too. came out '89. I think. I remember the 4 player cabinet at the beach on the boardwalk in ocean city Maryland.
I haven't played this game for over 20 years and I played the NES port which is almost identical. However, from what I still can recall, the graphics were better in the NES and the game was more fluid/faster.
Ooh, although I have this game on my PC I still like playing it in the arcades, next to the nearby beach. The machine itself - the artwork panels - are looking pretty ropey but it still works fine.
Nearly every secondary character in the TMNT universe was named for their action figure. Which is of course the only reason they have so many characters. Sales.
At the sewer bit in Scene 2, if you walk along the very edge of the platform you can hit everything but they can never hit you. Useless information now that you can get unlimited continues through emulation but back in the day this would have saved a quarter or two. :)
To be fair. This game got a better audiotrack than the one in Turtles through time imho. Might be because i love the soundtrack from the cartoonseries.
I'm gonna have to be one of the oddballs and say my favorite tmnt game is The Manhattan Project. Between special moves, varied oft unknown bosses and Super Shredder it tops my list.
This was THE game you would play in the arcade.
Beat it on my 13th birthday at the arcade.
Great memories... the good ol days, Mike. I hate life today, my adult life sucks.
+mrkirios Don't grow up, it's a trap!
+mrkirios You just read my mind.
+mrkirios adult life sucks period... 16-26 is the best age bracket imo
dude have you seen the NECA classic video game characters they are a must have for any nostalgic NERRRRRD! gotta catch em all
*You don't stop playing because you get old, but you could get old if you stop playing. Game on forever friends...*
2:27 April has a Bong on the table next to the kitchen door.
Can you blame her?
I remember getting the NES version of this for Christmas one year, me and my sister used to play it constantly because we were both huge TMNT fans. Good memories...
TMNT Hyperstone Heist - James & Mike Monday
Don't forget Krang's brother was in the movie The Brain
+Judas1911 WR1 Absolutely, as long as it's the Gameboy Color version played on the Gameboy Player and not the Super Gameboy.
My favorite arcade game of all time!
Me at the arcade back in the day: "Continue 9..8..7..6" - Dammit, I'm out of coins! :(
MoRiellyMoProblems right there with you
Yes tmnt! We want More tmnt content guys!
The Technodrome sure was menacing...If only they could get it to work...One of the best running gags in '80s animation.
I remember that cartoon about drugs....funny cause I have a weed jar with Michaelangelo on it and it's licenced merch.
+Fazzman Playeth Licensed by who, Bob Marley? What a truckload of crap man.
I'm thinking about buying the arcade cabinet version of this one.
Is the arcade version still up on Xbox Live Arcade? I thought about getting it but never did, and now I'm thinking about it again.
Man I remember spending countless hours and quarters at the arcade on this game with friends.
Now that I watch this as an adult, it's hilarious. Leo is using his swords like bludgeons. :P
The thumbnail to this video gives me chills love the arcade artwork/visual so classic
Is the Text at the outro the same as in Turtles 1 for Gameboy?
Wheres the best place to get these arcade roms and emulators. I miss this one, Simpsons, and the Predator game.
that sign takes me back to the nineties arcades
Cartoon All Stars to the rescue! OMG I forgot about that. They showed us that in like 7th or 8th grade. All the boys got pumped when Michelangelo came on.

+RetroGamerAaron Granitor was rehashed in the 2012 cartoon as well.
20:08 BK actually had VHS tapes, with an episode or two, if I remember.
favorite arcade game!!! Never get sick of this game.
My favourite arcade game ever.Obsessed with it as a kid.I would love to own the arcade cabinet some day.Cowabunga!
+Mark Drummond
got the PCB but not the cabinet... hard to find these days, only a replica...
Granitor's name was revealed in the NES manual of the game. That Technodrome music though.
I pumped so many quarters into this game as a kid loved it
How do you record the talking and game sound? Great videos
This game, Simpsons, and WWF Royal Rumble were always favorites. And yes, the NES game had 1-2 extra stages.. I know of 1 extra boss. The guy with the head that flies around, near the end of the game.
Probably my favorite arcade game. Ever...
Not only did you put the arcade pic up but you have the title of the video right there. lol.
In my opinion, this was the best port the NES ever got. Fuck, they even added a couple slick levels. Konami did everything right with this one. Probably my favorite NES game for nostalgic reasons.

Does anyone else find the sound of the buttons on the controller calming? 💯❤
Everything in this game will be better than the next TMNT movie.
Krang's music is the best!
it's the same theme Krang had in the cartoon back then
37:29 how did you go from 5 lives to 8?
Beat this not too long ago on my Mame arcade. Sweet, sweet memories. Back in the day we used to play this at our local Pizza Hut. Simple game but hella fun.
btw, those unicycle robots are Roadkill Rodneys :)
That was one of the best arcades ever! How bout the toy pizza thrower! My one friend had it and his mom would get pissed when we shot the toy pizzas at the cats! lol
TCRI on one of the trucks that unloaded the Foot Soldiers, never noticed that. I still have those cards as well as the movie cards.
Man.I remember this game.I wasted tons of quarters on it.Ahh good times.
What's your opinion of the 2002 series, James?
Yesss, I just got a MAME and am playing all these arcade classics
Holy shit was he loud with his drug episode impressions.
back in the day the Krang/Shredder fight took SO MANY QUARTERS from people. I remember this one time I saw the game beat back in the 80's by 4 dudes and they kept dumping quarters after quarters after quarters lol I still remember it. And when there's 4 players Shredder splits into 4.

This game that Aerosmith gun game lol, afterburner and the Simpsons game were some of my favorites!
+icemanKB and the X-Men arcade game was a favorite also.
The Aerosmith game was called Revolution X and it was pretty cool.
How are you liking that Hori stick, Mike?
Hey Mike, you're impressions are spot on!
You are supposed to use your "special attack" at all times in this game. Press both buttons at the same time.
Loved this when I was a kid
the music sounds a lot like the one in Crime Frighters (Konami as well), must be the same guy(s) behind
love how that game had knockoffs of Jason and Freddy Krueger as stage bosses
Played this so many times, so many quarters. Years ago when I went with my mom to shop and they had this arcade in the front. I use to play it a lot. Never beat the arcade one though.
Cool choice for a live stream Mike. I'd love to see you tackle Castlevania 3 some day!
Any plans to play the nintendo version of this game?
I think that Stone soldier is General Gael, that name I have heard and that´s what I have always called him.
I think it's General Tragg at least that's how they call him in the Hot Riding Teenagers episode.
+Darthadios General Traag. :)
You should play through this again with James, Bootsie, and Ryan!
Beezle14 I 💯 percent agree
I love how turtles can withstand being shot over and over by a machine gun. Btw, does the special 1 hit KO move from the NES not work on the Arcade? (Where you hit a and b almost simultaneously)
TMNT Turtles In Time (Snes) was the last game i completed in 2015 I done a multiplayer game over the netplay feature with someone over in holland, it worked great.
Did you ever see Deadpool, Mike?
Nice. This is the best 8-bit arcade coin-op game Konami ever made!
did you ever see deadpool
I remember the grey rock soldier's name being Morg, not Granitor. Weird. Wonder where I got that name from.
Great game, it brings back memories. Your major problem is you let yourself get surrounded but good play otherwise.
hey mike do u like tmnt fighter on nes
That was the worst for a 8 bit system.
+Brandon Vegas did u like Manhattan project?
+PixelFiendCombo ! Yeah it wasn't bad. Had Super Nintendo by then though.
I miss beat them up games like this. Co op games like this were my favorite growing up they need to make more of this but like super long and hella different moves or something
+juanitosb have you tried the new ninja gaidens? there are a few more new beat em ups but that's one of the most popular ones.
+Punky Jay theyre not the same. I think the closest one to this that was hella sick was dragons crown
I agree with you Mike. this was in every arcade around me too. came out '89. I think. I remember the 4 player cabinet at the beach on the boardwalk in ocean city Maryland.
This brings back memories of Aladdin's Castle.
Yes, 1000% yes
Man you forgot to mention in the cartoon all stars the president literally introduced it. So strange in retrospect.
what are you playing this on?
This game is Wayyyyy better than all Michal Bay movies put together =D
I haven't played this game for over 20 years and I played the NES port which is almost identical. However, from what I still can recall, the graphics were better in the NES and the game was more fluid/faster.
Is this on Steam? who can i buy TMNT (PC) ?
thx
Ooh, although I have this game on my PC I still like playing it in the arcades, next to the nearby beach. The machine itself - the artwork panels - are looking pretty ropey but it still works fine.
Nearly every secondary character in the TMNT universe was named for their action figure. Which is of course the only reason they have so many characters. Sales.
"Dimention" X must be a new place exclusive to the arcade game.
Forget Ninja Gaiden, no multiple shuriken attack like in Revenge Of The Shinobbi!
Was this on genises?
lol Bebop kicked your ass man. xD
when did shredder become a sith.
Granitor, the rock soldier, I think...
Hey Mike! Why don't you do a live stream of Cave Ninja The Arcade?
Only thing I don't like is you slide when you are attacking and don't feel like your hitting what your attacking really compared to the nes version.
the card packs had gum in them too!
You should play this with you, James and Doug and Rob Walker.
Wasn't there a winter level?
Mike M added for nes version
They misspelled dimension... But oh well. Conglaturation !!! You have completed a great game!
This should be unleashed on PS4's Arcade Archives selection. But sadly it may never see the light of day because, well...Konami.
MAME? I hope you play the XMEN game that was built on this engine next!
X-men arcade was built on the same engine as Turtles in Time, not this TMNT game.
Hey this is a 4P game... bad mike, bad mike...
You can buy the tmnt 1987 cards on eBay
this game took all my money lol
Granitor?
anyone able to get this to work with a ps4 controller? so far I'm only able to use the stupid keyboard
I'm gonna have to be one of the oddballs and say my favorite tmnt game is The Manhattan Project. Between special moves, varied oft unknown bosses and Super Shredder it tops my list.
holy crap! you cant even go near BeBop! brutal
