No Mode 7 throw yeah but this game seems like it plays faster and smoother. The colors are not as vivid as expected but how is the sound? The graphics really look like the arcade. It's amazing that we were able to play actual arcade quality games on our home consoles in the early 1990s starting with Strider and Altered Beast on the Genesis.
I began with liking Ralph as my favorite during the 80s with the original cartoon. But my favorite in the video game for NES was Donnie, he had the best range with the Bo staff. But when the newer animated series came out i developed a new love for Mikey, he's funny as shit in the animated series and Leo's leadership role was flushed out and brought forward. If anybody reading this hasn't watch the animated series from the early 2000's its highly recommended. I LOVE BEING A TURTLE!!!! :P
The best Turtles game is TMNT:3 The Manhattan Project on the NES. It has more different kinds of enemies, more bosses, more unique levels, each turtle has a different special move, and has that cool toss move. Its my favorite turtles game.
You would probably like Rescue Palooza, it's a fan game modeled after the NES style but much expanded and with TONS of references and you can play as about 100 different characters.
I bought TMNT III with money I got for my 8th birthday back in 1992 and was blown away. I’ve loved that game ever since, but to be honest Turtles in Time is still the best of the bunch. I wish Konami had made a port of the original TMNT arcade game for the Genesis in addition to Hyperstone Heist.
C, B, A to slide. Best Move. You can totally cut the game from an hour and a half to around half an hour mastering the slide alone. The run shoulder barge is good for setting up the throw, and Run then Attack + Jump is cool looking, but does the same damage as the slide. Just get the slide. Oft, Hyperstone Heist is getting it when I get home. Turtles in Time is great, but you can cheese this game with some skill a lot quicker. Great speedrun game.
I wonder why Donatello is brown in the 80s action figures but not in the 80s TV Show. Yet in later years they just made his action figure the darkest shade of green.

My neighbor had an SNES growing up and he rented Turtles in Time and invited me over to play. It blew my mind. I couldn’t wait to buy it for my Sega Genesis, which of course was not a possibility. When Hyperstone Heist was released I began saving my allowance to buy the game. Unfortunately along the way, TMNT fell out of favor with my classmates for some reason and I succumbed to the peer pressure. Liking TMNT was suddenly no longer cool and I shunned the franchise. For the record I bought RBI Baseball ‘93 instead. Ugh....
I kinda look up to Mike. He says "I have unlimited time when I stream" and that's super cool. I look at all of the games I would want to play "someday" but I know that someday will never come because of work and my future family-- I got married last year and I'm already facing the prospect of having kids (I'm 31 now). There's still so much I want to play and experience-- yet will never be able to. Mike made his passion his work and his life, he has as far as I can tell at least 2 rooms dedicated to videogames and another to movies-- he has put in the time and resources to do that which I cannot. And I gotta give props to that. At least the coronavirus pandemic gave me a once-in-a-lifetime chance to knock off almost 20 games from my backlog.
I wanted to give it another chance. I think it is true that the run can be performed faster here, which is good. But there is so much more content in Turtles in Time. Rat King, Tokka and Rahzor, Slash, Bebop, UFO form of Krang. I mean, it's very cool they put Tatsu in the Genesis game. But it kind of pales in comparison.
If Turtles in Time is a 8/10, Hysterone is a 7 or 7.5. They are both excellent games that you can't go wrong with. Turtles in Time just feels a bit more complete.

You have to master the slide move on this game. If you slide into the foot soldiers, they'll die with one hit afterwards. Also with the fight with Tatsue, you can slide across the screen into him. Etc, Etc, Etc,. Master the slide, and this game flows well. Also, Ralph is the fastest Turtle to make up for his lack of reach.
I seem to remember this one having more nuanced controls than turtles in time, like different jump attacks based on input timing. Otherwise turtles in time is more interesting in every other way.
I played and beated this game even in hard mode. The game overall plays faster than Turtles in Time on the SNES however, it feels butchered due to certain levels and bosses missing but a few bosses either returning from the TMNT arcade game or new bosses appearing.
The game is good but... seriously... EASY?! oh well, I hope you do it later on Hard (the "somewhat" complete version of the ending is only displayed on said difficulty) still, Turtles in Time is the superior game.
I beat this game the first time i played it. As a middle school kid, at the time, that only got 2 games a year, the lack of difficulty was annoying. 30 min or so after cracking open the package the game was over, an oddly disappointing moment for a child to have.
Also notice how not only does star base absolutley fucking slap on the yamaha chip, it also has the "Hey Hey Hey!" From manhatten projects version of the song.
Abuse that run button bro. The biggest plus this game has over turtles in time is the control over your turtle, perfectly timed sliding kicks to destroy mousers and Perfectly timed shoulder bashes into throws is what its all about. Also with Tatsu.....just slide kick behind him and mash the attack, then when he jumos away quickly dash towards him timinf the slide to avoid darts and end uo behind him literally kicking him In the ass over and over.
This was my main TMNT childhood game. I sadly had TMNT: Tournament Fighters on Genesis as a rental, I hated it!!! I do agree TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is the better TMNT game. But this still among my favorite TMNT games I ever played. It always meant so much to me growing up.
Apparently Bebop is the colorswap of Rocksteady in the second fight against him. This game is more of a remix of all the other games. However, they should have made Bebop fight with Rocksteady. The Genesis could have handled it. The Power Ranger Movie game for the Genesis had you fight against three bosses together.

Hey Mike, just wanted to say you helped motivate me to beat Ninja Gaiden No Death Challenge. I was able to accomplish the challenge today! Now just need to work on No Death No Sub-Weapon (gulp)
The banjo is not a Cajun instrument. They actually took something out of what Leatherhead does by comparison to Turtles In Time as far as I saw. In that he throws crawfish besides knives. Also, Rocksteady looks odd in this, with the animation style being different from that of the rest of the game. I very much prefer the way he looks in Turtles In Time where, besides the pirate outfits, he and Bebop just look like New York morons like they're supposed to.
The Foot Soldiers are robots in the cartoon. They cannot drink coffee. If Elon Musk's idea of a truck is that.....thing, then he'd make the Technodrome a giant cube with a nose on top of it. All Rambo would have to do is put a hole in the Starship Enterprise and it would be over because they're so highly pressurized they simulate normal Earth atmosphere in outer space. Krang looks much better in Turtles In Time. It's the same model and movements, but the way he's colored and shaded is horrid in this. Super Shredder seems A LOT easier in this than Turtles In Time. He's definitely a lot slower. BTW, what the hell is in the air that he's shooting those things at?

this game is good, but turtles in time is a lot better. 13 bosses to only 6 here. more levels, cutscenes for every level(there's like 3 on the sega version, and the story is nowhere near as cool as the time travel theme), voice overs for each stage name, only blank typing on sega. throwing enemies at the screen on snes. time attack mode. 2 player vs mode. "turtles in time" is untouchable , best 16 bit beat em up ever! 10/10. hyperstone is a solid 7.5, and still worth playing
Its driving me crazy that the default Foot Soldiers aren't purple and why don't the yellow Foot Soldiers throw their boomerangs?! I know this is supposed to be different from the Arcade, but some things should have been priority! The Default Foot Soldiers in the Cartoon are purple, make sure the default is purple, DAMMIT! Okay, so later in the game, the Yellow Foot do their special attack by jumping in the air and throwing Kunai. It's a dumb special attack. Boomerang would have been cooler. Maybe the boomerangs would have taken up that much memory? Doubtful, but, hey ...

Mortal kombat street fighter and streets of rage were the thing in my neighborhood. They actually took out the hyperstone arcade machine to add ANOTHER STREET FIGHTER in the pizza place bc so many people would wait to play street fighter Alright already play the fuckin game lol

Actually the SNES didn't use Mode 7 for the throwing, it was just sprites, so in theory they could do it for Hyperstone Heist.

Tatsu could of had an invincible frame where he’s laughs or have a spears come out of the ground. Or when he jumps he lands on you.

On Turtles In Time, if you arm slam someone into other opponents, they die with 1 hit.

Leatherhead and Rocksteady have very predictable patterns. Hit them 4 times and they'll automatically run to the other side of the screen.

Super Shredder is a lot faster and spams the teleport more in Turtles in Time. I don't think he uses his walking animation at all in that game.
