I enjoyed her live and have seen her a couple times, I was kinda bothered by the amount of lipsync/backing tracks tho, I paid to hear her, not recordings of her.
I might have started your info with the fact that she wrote it when she was 11 years old. Another aspect of an Aurora performance is the relationship between the music and her body movements. See her performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Awards 2015.
her niedarosdomen concert has heavy harpist (ruth potter) engagement. the whole concert is pure magic. thanks for reacting to aurora, she has so much more to offer. and she is better live. the best are her stripped back live pieces.
I will heavily disagree with you with regards to her stripped down live versions being her best. That kind of disregards her talents regarding production. She is amazing live, but I think she shines the brightest in the studio, and I think it really shows in how far her albums have come with regards to sound design. Her first album is, underwhelming, compared to the rest of her work.
Love Aurora, gives me hope for today’s music. Loving the love she is getting in the comments as well. I second the live performances of her. The one concert held in a cathedral is really something to see. Also the one video where she seems to be singing with a Viking in a cave. Bigger Aurora fans than me would be able to tell you more.
And her version of the Beatles' Across the Universe is possibly even better than the original. For that song, and Teardrop too, Amy should watch the videos as they have filmed the live performance.
Thank you, Amy and Vlad, for covering this artist and song. I had not heard her music before and enjoyed the work and reaction. She reminds me of Enya.
I really enjoyed your analysis and reaction to this song. Some facts about Aurora that might interest you and add further insight to this piece: She wrote this song when she was 11 years old. She taught herself to play piano on an old electric piano she found in their attic when she was 6 years old - the ON button was broken so she had to hold it down with one hand while playing with the other. The music she grew up with as a child was mostly classical as well as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Enya. She spent a lot of time in the woods as a child so nature is a major theme in much of her music. She is also an accomplished dancer and artist. She is a great storyteller - her lyrics are always thought provoking. Runaway is one of her earliest songs - I believe she was around 19 years old when it was released. She is now 28 years old and her music has become more complex as she matures and been influenced by other music - however, she remains totally unique. As others have commented she is best experienced live - her stage presence is mesmerizing. I would recommend you watch her live performance of her song "Winter Bird" at the Nidarosdomen Cathedral in Norway. There is a male choir and orchestra - including Organ and Harp! She has so many lovely interesting pieces, so I hope you have a chance to look further into her music.
Adding to the praise from everyone in the comments, it should also be pointed out that the musicians she has been surrounding herself with are _also_ very gifted, many of them also vocally on top of instrumentally 🤩
Truly a remarkable artist and, as others have said, watching her live is stunning. Grace Slick and now Aurora; Vlad you and I clearly share the same taste in music. I would love to see a reaction the John Lennons “Across the Universe” and then Aurora’s version which is just mesmerizing. Love to you all❤
What a nice reaction ❤! Interesting the way you see the music- Aurora is definitely a artist you will enjoy. She has a massive “ production “ - nothing is the same. She said that she has eight messages to the world… her last album was the fourth….❤️She is amazing and unique.
AURORA is a genre of herself, usually very hard to put in a box. And lately she has been defying & crossing genre borders even more. You'll be hard pressed to find a more varied and original artist. Soundpainting is a good way to describe her method, and she is very good at painting a picture in your mind and drawing you in. Especially live. And this dynamic Ebb and Flow feeling of her music is maybe the only way of describing it, if that wasn't already taken for defining speed only it could have been the name of the genre.
Wow, your attention to detail while interpreting songs and videos is stunning!!! You notice things that I wouldn't have noticed and other reactors don't mention. I would really love to see more Aurora and Ren reactions by you. Have a lovely day.
You should play through every album she has made. It's well worth it. I didn't listen to her until last year, but now I'm a huge fan. She is something very special.
Great to see the magical Aurora on your channel! If you enjoy baritone harmonies behind Aurora, you'd love her live acapella performance of "Through the Eyes of a Child" that she did for Vevo.
Yes, amazing track right to the very last moment where you are just left hanging expecting more. Aurora really needs to put out an album of live performances.
I have just discovered this artist and song. It blew me away how connected i became, so quickly. Like classical music , i feel it in my heart first. Im not a musician nor am i musical but i feel it and this particular song resiinated inton my core being. I now have to go find these other songs everyone in the comments have mentioned.
Maybe the next best song for a second reaction. This is really for me too the best version of this song. By the way it is "funny" to hear a murder song at the peace prize concert!
That's how I discovered Aurora... I actually teared up it's so beautiful! Now I've listened to more of her music and love her! I have tickets to see her live next year
Considering Aurora wrote most of this song when she was 11, it makes perfect sense for her longing to be embraced and comforted by "home". Great reaction.
Aurora has alot of music. She is known for releasing several versions. There are even 'secret' versions that get released on her fan channels. The amount of thought put into her music, lyrics, and production are amazing. She's become my favorite artist, and I'm a former metal head.
Scandinavian ethereal folk pop music from Norway is amazing. I first found out about Aurora when she sang with the Norwegian 🇳🇴 traditional folk music band Wardruna who provided the music for the Vikings TV series.
LOve your reaction to this Aurora song. You are spot on about mother daughter relation here. She has said that when she wrote it, home was in her mother's arms. The people she chooses to form her band has changed over the years but all of them are superb musicians and with great voices, ref her acapella version of 'Trough the eyes of a child' with her and 4 more voices, for VEVO. If you do that one, you should double it with the same song from her Nidarosdomen Cathedral concert where she ads a male choir, church organ, harp and violins, the whole concert is beautiful and top notch produced. Also you should know that all her songs are different from each other in style, tempo, construction, and they can be found in several versions - acapella, acoustic, electronic and some even with a full philharmonic orchestra. Also, every time she sing a song it differs from the last time she did it. Lastly - she has done a number of superb covers, in her own version - Life on Mars is my favorite - ruclips.net/video/kJ095S0MmnA/видео.htmlsi=CFTMX_QefyFuY5YV.
"Through the Eyes of a Child" is my favorite. If you really want to hear her with a solid male vocal backing, I suggest Helvegen, where she sings with Wardruna.
Like that sound of the tide going in and out. Perfect. You definitely have to watch her performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Seeing her perform brings so much more emotion to the song. Amazingly enough as it is already so emotional.
I do hope you will return to Aurora in the not too distant future, she is a true artist. To get the full benefit you really need to see a 'live' performance, either recorded or in the flesh ...
as many others have mentioned I can only suggest two things: - as amazing as she is in the studio, she is even more amazing live. - it is a MUST to watch her live performances, there is just as much physicality to her performance as there is vocals and instruments. You can't go wrong with literally any of her live shows.
Please do more Aurora videos ❤ Her music and her voice have transformed from way back then to now My take on the song: I am 28 years old, unhappy adult but still finds a way in life. being an adult is terrifying, growing old is scary. Take me back home to my childhood. My childhood where it was safe, secure, innocent, happy, ignorant, fun, laughter, healthy, smiles, love.
13:05 This whole comparison makes sense. Aurora started writing this when she was 11, about events and sensations that had transpired earlier (a godfather passing and she mentions dreaming about being 7). So it very much involves a young girls perspective and Aurora has also said that home to her was her mother's embrace. On the other hand she has also described the song itself as a gift to herself from "little Aurora", as she herself feel she has understood more and more what it's about as she grow older.
Actually it is more about different phases of grief, but of course also about home where you can "repair yourself" and return to world again after this loss. Interesting thing is that she wrote this song when she was 11 years old! She is amazing true artist and for sure it is worth to check more from her music (a lot of variation and great music overall). Thank you for nice reaction.
🧚 O - Next "Murder Song" Noble Peace Price Concert 2015. I'm sure a lot of "Warriors and Weirdos" will jump in and give you a lot of insights about this wonderful singer
She was the wind on Frozen soundtrack. Listen to her interviews. She is unique. Her themes of loving nature and saving the planet are still resonating as authentic and loving. She champions people and animals. See her as older now I you see a truly brave and talented artist.
Billy Eilish, the huge pop star, has said that seeing and hearing AURORA sing this song inspired her to try to record her own music. So, one could say that she originated this breathy style in contemporary anglophone pop music. [Of course, it was popular among French singers for decades before.] Her most recent album, ‘What Happened to the Heart’ shows her incredible growth as a songwriter and singer. I agree that her live performances are even more impressive, especially those recorded at VEVO. ‘A Soul With No King’ is a great example of her recent work.
All her songs are different and every performance different. At her best live as she sings in the moment. She wrote this at 11 and the lyrics reflect that. Generally her lyrics are well worth listening to.
Aurora is a remarkable young artist, glad you listened to her. I hope you will watch a video of her performing live, Murder Song or It Happened Quiet would be great picks.
Thank you for reacting to Aurora! To fully get her in my opinion it is necessary to watch her while singing because she is able to transport emotions through her body language and facial expressions as well as through her voice. She tells stories with all of them. She is a very special artist. I recommend "All Is Soft Inside" live at KEXP, "Lucky" live at Nidarosdomen and "It Happened Quiet" live at the Current.
I love Aurora. She's kind of her own category, IMO. Sure, among her entire catalog there are a couple of unapologetically pop songs, but those are pretty good too. Hope she doesn't burn out.
Watch the NPR tiny desk performance by Aurora, its just here and here guitarist that does excellent backing vocals. Amazing performance at a very young age.
So glad Vlad has put forward Aurora. So refreshing. There is a lot of talent coming out of Scandinavia now, though not that well known outside of Europe. You both really must have a listen to her compatriot Susanne Sundfor - and her superb albums 'Songs For People in Trouble' and '10 Love Songs'. She has excellent vocal control and an amazing range of abilities including producing as well as writing her own recordings. I discovered her through her Oya concert on YT and her work as a vocalist with Royksopp.
Susanne Sundfør is absolutely amazing. It seems she can handle anything. She's probably the greatest musician to come out of Norway in a very long time.
@@TWBK Glad you agree. However I've repeatedly mentioned her name to the best reactors including Amy , the Charismatic Voice and Doug Helvering and so far they haven't featured her. Probably because I'm not on their patreons and they tend to play a lot of metal and hard rock.
I randomly was exposed to her music during a Coachella concert and I thought she was this magical young lady. A fairy among us. The music is so enchanting.
She's the best live performer I've ever been fortunate enough to see in person (and like most people commenting here, I've seen an awful lot of live stuff over the years). If you're the the kind of music listener that really admires artists who not only can write and record unique songs but also perform them at an extremely high level, this is an artist you'd be foolish not to devote some time to. It's a great rabbit hole to go down....
Great video, if you want to compare her way to interpret music, her version of Life on mars from Bowie is really good, plus there is a live version in youtube
Very good analysis of this song that revealed the artist. But AURORA is above all a stage artist where she can reveal all her talents: not only her unique voice, but also her dancing skills, her sensitivity on edge, her different spirit (she talks a lot between songs) and also her way of singing since she does not stay in place in front of her microphone but moves all the time by trotting while dancing and she never stops moving her arms too and her gaze seems to see what she describes in her lyrics. This song "Runaway" was written when she was 11 years old. Before and especially after she wrote other songs but especially for her audience, often the lyrics are committed for example about global warming. I advise you to listen and comment: "Through The Eyes Of a Child" (Live at Nidarosdomen) when she totally frees her voice "A Soul With No King" (Live Performance) | Vevo song written with Brian Eno on his latest album.
Runaway was released in Feb 2015 and the music video on Feb 27th, 2015, and just 5 days later Katy Perry tweeted and recommended the music video and Aurora: "Finally. New music that makes my heart flutter. Check this 17 yr old angel." (Aurora was actually 18). She later went to 2 Aurora concerts in the US i 2015 and 2016. Billie Eilish has said many times that she watched the Runaway music video in 2015 when she was 13, and that it really inspired her a lot to pursue her music career. In March 2021 when the song was 6 years old, it was used in a TikTok meme and it got really popular and reached top 20 world wide on Spotify. You should watch Aurora live, I recommend watching this song privately (or reaction video if you want) at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert, and you will see what we mean. Aurora turned 28 in June and also released her 4th album in June, and she also has 2 EPs. She writes all her music and lyrics, though sometimes with co-writers.
Thank you for reacting to Aurora. Perhaps you'd be interested in something from her newly released album to hear how she has changed the way she uses her voice compared to the early days of Runaway? I know you generally listen rather than watch for your reactions but Aurora really is a visual artist, may I suggest: AURORA - A Soul With No King (Live Performance) | Vevo
Your impression is a lot more light-hearted than mine. She says heaven is waiting patient for her. She also says would I run off the Earth someday? To me It feels like Earth is not her home. Not of this world 😅. her entire life is the runaway, her dance in the rain. When she says I cannot take it anymore, it sounds very final to me.
Followed AURORA (no, I'm not shouting, it's how she wants her name credited!) since 2017. She's unique. She reminds me of Elizabeth Fraser from The Cocteau Twins. Not only that, but she wrote this song and its arrangement at age 11. Yes, 11. She writes all her material and directs her own videos in collaboration with a long-time friend. Her sister makes all her outfits for the videos. She's a classically trained dancer as well. She's a national treasure in Norway. My favourite AURORA songs are Black Water Lilies, I Went Too Far, The M*rder Song, Runaway and Queendom. YT has a few live concerts of hers. One was held in a Norwegian forest mid-winter with lanterns and Reindeer, just magical. Another was in a Cathedral with a choir. There are also a few Capella songs too. Watch them as she's mesmerising, quirky and unique. She totally immerses herself in the lyrics and music, unaware of the audience in front of her. It's just her and the music at that particular point in time.
She's new to me. A lot of younger artists seem to sing with a slight catch/creak or break in their voice and an almost childlike breathy tone. It's a fashionable style, but in her case it feels entirely appropriate to the subject matter.
Billy Eilish, the huge pop star, has said that seeing and hearing AURORA sing this song inspired her to try to record her own music. So, one could say that she originated this breathy style in contemporary anglophone pop music. She is very honest in her presentation. Her songs are stories and she basically lives in them while she sings. Every time. And she is very wise, funny and talented on top of that.
5:19 It’s green hilly shores. Cold wind, but somehow warm. It’s a home you’ve never seen yet you can remember it. You can close your eyes and see the morning out of it. It’s painful nostalgia for a place you’ve never been. It’s also Hope. Gosh music is a wild power😊
Please watch her perform this song and Murder Song at the Nobel Peace Prize. Watching her sing these songs and how lost she is in them is something to behold. Also watch her perform at Nidarosdomen, specifically her song "Through the Eyes of a Child". I will never be the same again, in a good way.

Aurora is so good. I have been in a couple of concerts, and She sings sooo good live to❤ Another gold voice from Norway to check out is Angelina Jordan❤
Her live performances are truly amazing, even better than her recordings. The two best ones (in my opinion) are: - it happened quiet - live at Nidarosdomen - lucky - live at Nidarosdomen They'll change you 😁
I also like “little boy in the grass”. Aurora’s a great performer There’s another female singer that’s kind of similar, Susanne Sundfør. I like “white foxes” and “oblivion” (m83 feat. Susanne Sundfør) and “running to the sea”. Florence and the Machine is somewhat similar, too, I suppose. (Seven Devils; No light, no light; etc.) Another great female singer is Maria Brink from In This Moment
I would recommend something from her new album «what happened to the heart?». The live VEVO versions of «some type of skin» and «a soul with no king» are really good. She herself says the songs «starvation» and «the dark dresses lighly» are her favourites from that album. But the live version of «your blood» from the Beijing meet and greet is awesome.
I grew up with a love of Grieg and Sibelius as well as irish folk music, so being introduced to scandanvian folk music was a treat, and aurora definitely draws on the folk music of her people. It's swedish, but I riden så (Gjallarhorn having the best performance IMO) is a good reference
You should have listened to the live version at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, She is ALWAYS better live than the studio versions, It's when she is deeply immersed in the moment that you really hear her genius. Her studio versions are thought out, her live versions pour out, spontaneously.
It's definitely rewarding to see Aurora actually perform. She is something else.
100% 🤩👍 Plus, much of her music also sounds even better when played live 😊
I enjoyed her live and have seen her a couple times, I was kinda bothered by the amount of lipsync/backing tracks tho, I paid to hear her, not recordings of her.

Her version of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" is outstanding.
And her version of Alanis Morrissette's "Thank You", too.
Life on Mars is awesome.
Teardrop es genial cantada por ella.
her original songs are even better...
And her version of the Beatles' Across the Universe is possibly even better than the original. For that song, and Teardrop too, Amy should watch the videos as they have filmed the live performance.

Next "Murder Song" Noble Peace Price Concert 2015.
I'm sure a lot of "Warriors and Weirdos" will jump in and give you a lot of insights about this wonderful singer
Followed by "It Happened Quiet", particularly the Live at Nidarosdomen version. :-)
Más allá de bjork y fever ray (the knife) creo que hace tiempo que este estilo de música pop de calidad no era tan popular. Me encanta
I feel so lucky having listened to this song live 😍😍 this song is quite old. you should listen to her new album - it is crazy gooooood
All her songs are different and every performance different. At her best live as she sings in the moment. She wrote this at 11 and the lyrics reflect that. Generally her lyrics are well worth listening to.
For more male choir backup WATCH "Lucky" from the concert in Nidarosdomen Cathedral.
Aurora is a remarkable young artist, glad you listened to her. I hope you will watch a video of her performing live, Murder Song or It Happened Quiet would be great picks.
Very talent, proof that you can make good music today
Aurora is like a godess of nature. She roamed the woods alone as a child,a nature child.
You HAVEA to watch more Aurora! I’m sure, the way you analyzed this one, you’ll LOVE some of the other ones she’s put out!
You have to listen to Aurora as she sings live. Top five singers in the world..
Aurora is an angel
Literally, too! 😊
Dark fairy 🧚 angel
Aurora is an elfe
@@robertpetre9378 nope. She turns dark into light.
AURORA is so amazing, a genius.
You must check her live performance, i think AURORA shine in live much more.
Was literally thinking about commenting that you should check out Aurora the other day xD
Great reaction! I would love to hear your analysis on Aurora's song Exist for Love.
Please do her Nidorosdomen concert. Its one of my favorite things.
Aurora has a lovely cover of The Beatles - Across The Universe that you might like
Great video, if you want to compare her way to interpret music, her version of Life on mars from Bowie is really good, plus there is a live version in youtube
There are a few live versions. Each one is a unique take. The Howard Stern show version is hyper expressive, like she is living the story.
I advise you to listen and comment:
"Through The Eyes Of a Child" (Live at Nidarosdomen) when she totally frees her voice
"A Soul With No King" (Live Performance) | Vevo song written with Brian Eno on his latest album.
I know you generally listen rather than watch for your reactions but Aurora really is a visual artist, may I suggest:
AURORA - A Soul With No King (Live Performance) | Vevo
Aurora is a master in sounds and especially in vocal layering for what i love her and being a fan since several years.
I tell you what, I'm in my mid-sixties and I absolutely love Aurora's music! Not that age matters of course!
She is very honest in her presentation. Her songs are stories and she basically lives in them while she sings. Every time. And she is very wise, funny and talented on top of that.
By the way, Aurora wrote this song when she was 11-12 years old. Just for info 😊😊
Love Aurora ❤
Creo que es impresionante que una cantante de pop tan joven nos guste a personas mucho mayores (y acostumbrados a musica mucho mas vieja y ruidosa)
I feel a crackling fire in each click
It’s longing.
Please watch her perform this song and Murder Song at the Nobel Peace Prize.
Watching her sing these songs and how lost she is in them is something to behold.
Also watch her perform at Nidarosdomen, specifically her song "Through the Eyes of a Child".
I will never be the same again, in a good way.
as a classical reactor you should do 5 4 3 2 1 live at 2015 Nobel Peace Prize
Also highly recommend Aurora's "murder song" live at 2015 noble peace prize concert
she's a phenom...

FROM AURORA :-) PURE ART AS CAN BE!!!
Aurora is so good. I have been in a couple of concerts, and She sings sooo good live to❤
Another gold voice from Norway to check out is Angelina Jordan❤
Her live performances are truly amazing, even better than her recordings.
The two best ones (in my opinion) are:
- it happened quiet - live at Nidarosdomen
- lucky - live at Nidarosdomen
They'll change you 😁
I also like “little boy in the grass”. Aurora’s a great performer
There’s another female singer that’s kind of similar, Susanne Sundfør. I like “white foxes” and “oblivion” (m83 feat. Susanne Sundfør) and “running to the sea”.
Florence and the Machine is somewhat similar, too, I suppose. (Seven Devils; No light, no light; etc.)
Another great female singer is Maria Brink from In This Moment
I would recommend something from her new album «what happened to the heart?». The live VEVO versions of «some type of skin» and «a soul with no king» are really good. She herself says the songs «starvation» and «the dark dresses lighly» are her favourites from that album. But the live version of «your blood» from the Beijing meet and greet is awesome.
I strongly suggest "Murder Song" Noble Peace Price Concert 2015. Honestly all her songs are outstanding, but this is even more.
Nice image, the sea shell. I'd heard a little Aurora but not this. It's beautiful, I believe. Thanks!
should a reaction to nidorashoment live, it so good when hear with headphone at night
Her version of The Beatles' "Across the Universe" is beautiful, delicately magnificent. Maybe even better than the genius original.
Awesome!! Like +1
好歌和很好的解釋。
謝謝你。
