20 years ago i bought a 1986 red J10 Trendy here in Sweden as my first car and drove it to school and work for 3 years. I wish i still had it today. A few years later i found a J12 with the newer body style that i bought. I built a basic log manifold and put a citroen berlingo turbocharger on that car along with a pierburg carb that i put under turbo pressure. I ran it at 0.8 bar of boost and it became like a wrx impreza ;) clutch didnt hold the whole winter thought and i couldnt find a upgrade clutch at that time so i sold it. Now im searching for a trendy again but they are really hard to find these days.
I know its a bit late now, but for future you; Heat is the best way to deal with those rubberised coatings. Unless you want to use REALLY strong industrial chemicals. Which I don't recommended. I used both heat guns and gas burners successfully to remove both PU and Tar based undercoatings very quickly from vehicles and parts :)
I was 16 years old, at the junkyard to buy a replacement window for my dads pickup truck, a guy drove in to scrap his subaru justy, i ended up buying it and driving it home. Lol.
