There is an IDA association in Ontario, and neither the ministry of education nor school boards recognise dyslexia as a disability. They continue to promote these fads like the daily 5: read to self, read to someone else, listen to someone reading, work with the teacher, and scrabble for vocabulary. Then there is the issue of silent reading: how does the teacher know if students are developing vocabulary, learning the breadth of language, knowing how authors use vocabulary to develop characters. There is no exposure to close or analytical reading.

Can I please get more information about the test that Dr Moats was referring to at 1:07:22?

Dr. Moats is referring to the Structured Literacy™ Teacher certification exam (dyslexiaida.org/certification/), administered by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI - effectivereading.org/), a partner of the International Dyslexia Association. We understand that the exam is currently undergoing revision but should be available soon.
