  • Making Chinese beef and mouli stew (aka ngow lam bo) in the Lidl Tefal 6L pressure cooker. This is an authentic Chinese Cantonese dish. The stainless steel pressure cooker means that it cooks in about 40mins and not the usual 3hrs!
    Ingredients:
Cubed brisket beef or shin beef, 900g
Mouli, 1 giant one or 2 smaller ones
    Chu hou sauce, 4-5 tablespoons
    Ground ginger
    Salt
    Pepper
    Oil, for sealing the beef
    Water to cover the ingredients
We’ll show you how to use a pressure cooker - don’t panic! It’s not rocket science but it is a bit terrifying first few times you use it!

You’re welcome, glad my video helped! I found that ours recently wouldn’t reach pressure. I cleaned the pressure valve and everything worked again. I also found that the relief valve came loose and needed hand tightening over time. Main thing if you’re new to the whole thing is to be aware of how long it can take to get a few litres of food to boil and then up to pressure if you have a weak hotplate. Once you know what it’s supposed to sound like, it’s a lot easier to use.

Really nice dish. I reckon that it’s in the top 5 dishes that I like to eat. It’s something that we often order if we go to the restaurant, so to be able to make it at home fairly quickly is brilliant!

Thank you! We use it a lot and after the initial learning curve (scary!) it’s easy to use and works great.

Hello, I found on my pressure cooker that in the lid there was a pin that was used to close the lid. If I put the gasket (ring) around that and not on top of it, I then did not get the condensation leaking out on the side of my pan. I think it sealed better. Hope that this is helpful

Hi Pat, thanks for the advice! I think we’d just overfilled the cooker and also we’d washed it prior to use, so there was probably some residual water in the handle. Not had any problems with it since.

It’s not a button, it just pops up to indicate that the pot is pressurised. After a few uses, you can tell easily if that’s the case from the steam sound.
