Just to inform you, Diamond Tiara does in fact get redeemed. And the show (UNFORTUNATELY >:'() never uses her again. Also if you want a nice Christmas-y song, Pinkie's Present is perfect. It's great. 😌
Next time you react to more MLP songs please react to "You're in my head like a catchy song" and "the magic of friendship grows" Also the "Magic that's inside" is good too
I love mlp ! His fandom has amazing producers and very unique tracks! i recomend ponies at dawn and cider party channel you are gonna love it! Also please listen more songs of the show. I wanna see you react/ hear the villain songs my favorite is "this day aria" and "better way to be bad"
That particular episode with Diamond Tiara is the Penultimate episode for the growth of the Cutie Mark Crusaders(CMC) as characters, as well as their main rival up to that point, Diamond Tiara. From that episode on, they start tackling more mature topics about what it means to grow up and finding your place in the world. The show can be deceptively mature in its themes, considering the perceptions around children's animated entertainment. Hell, the episode where it introduces Zephyr Breeze was way too damn real for a lot of people in the community, and I think more people should be able to check it out without such high societal pressures against them for it.
@@GoldenSax When S7's Once Upon A Zeppelin aired and I saw just how much of an adrenaline junkie Twilight's mom was, I immediately thought, "OMG Shining married someone like his mom because Cadence is like that!" LOL. Because there's a saying that girls marry someone like their dad and boys marry someone like their mom lol.
"The Pony I Want to Be" and "The Light of Your Cutie Mark" ARE from the same episode. The episode is called "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" and it had some of the greatest development for some of the secundary characters of the show. Just like many episodes of season 5, it impacted the series in such way that changed everything for the characters involved in it. But sadly this episode was the last of spotlight that Diamond Tiara ever had and that's something that I dislike up until today, because there was so much potencial in exploring her development.
Honestly that and I found the CMC's cutie mark design to be kind of awful. I saw fan interpretations that held the same unifying theme and looked better, I just thought what we actually got looked kind of garish.
@@ansonsieu8428 But RD’s whole thing is that she’s super competitive, but still loyal. Her loyalty is what keeps her from going too far. She really wants to win and excel, but not at the cost of her friends. Honesty wouldn’t work for that.
I think her biggest flaw is that she seems to think that because she always tells the truth, everything she thinks, all her opinions, are the objective truth.
Diamond Tiara redeems herself after the CMC teach her how her Cutie Mark isn't meant to represent being superior, but helping others with her privilege
i always saw it as a more leadership related cutiemark! she calls it "making ponies do what i want", and she thought that meant cruelty and manipulation but it can also be encouragement and kindness yk?
@@rawmeatrex it could be both! Leadership often comes with an inherent kinda privilege (social privilege at least) so her arc could be about how to channel her influence over others.
Mathew I want you to remember one thing when your listening to those harmony’s with the mane cast, there are only 4 people doing it. Ashleigh Ball does both rainbow dash and apple jack, and Andrea Libman does pinkie pie and fluttershy, while Tabitha does rarity and Rebecca sings for Twilight. This means that that Ashleigh and Andrea are having to also sing very distinctly in their characters voices for it to sound that there’s actually 6 distinct people (or ponies) singing.
i totally get your point but keep in mind there are usually different singing voices than acting voices. I know Ashleigh sings but in general Tara almost never does singing voices. Had a quick google and seems like Andrea only sings every so often. So while it's usually 5 people, it's still cool I also always love to talk about the difficulties of people singing in character, it's hard as heck & very impressive
Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Twilight have distinct singing voices from their regular voices: Shannon Chan-Kent sings for Pinkie Pie Kazumi Evans sings for Rarity Rebecca Soichet sings for Twilight But yeah Ashleigh Ball does both RD and AJ
@@MathewMcKenna oh yeah, I thought they all had the same singing voices and speaking except for Twilight who’s singing voice is Rebecca Soichet (who is the speaking voice for Sunset Shimmer in equestria girls). Sorry for the mis information 😅
Some more suggestions: “raise this barn”, “bats!”, “apples to the core”, “in our town”, “you’re in my head like a catchy song”, “kirin tale”, “better way to be bad”, and “as the magic of friendship grows”. All fantastic songs and most of them are seriously underrated! And from the movie, “time to be awesome” and “open up your eyes” are both incredible!
So quick plot clarifications -Discord was technically redeemed I think in season 2-3 thanks to Fluttershy making a huge effort to actually be his friend, but he was kinda annoying for most of the show and she was the only one who really liked him that much. In that episode, he fakes an illness and gets Twilight and Cadence to go above and beyond for him to “test their friendship”. -Diamond Tiara makes a last second decision to stand up to her mom who was causing problems for the school, and is doing her best to be nice to others from that point on. This is also the episode where the girls get their cutie marks (the theme is that they help others find their life’s purpose) -Luna’s Future is from the shows version of A Christmas Carol. The main cast are used to reenact the story, and Luna plays the ghost of Christmas Future. The purple pony is a redeemed villain from a previous season.
Discord early on could be justified since the friendship seems to be only from one, and given he doesn't see how meaningful it is, just that it's valuable, it feels more like a different prison and when given freedom, takes it It changes a bit in general for the better after Sugar Belle moves to Ponyville with a selfless act not pushed onto him and nothing major against others(his actions in The Big Mac Question are less emotionally charged and just a consequence from a quick action)
Yep, we said if you liked harmonies you'd LOVE "you'll play your part". That has the best 3 part harmony that sound like a 7 part harmony somehow. You missed "A Kirin's tale" LOL. That one's just pure comedy. After the diamond tiara song, comes the redemption song for her. "The Pony I Want to Be (Reprise)" where they take the sad song she sings, and turn it into a bouncy song.
Play Your Part is still my fav song from the show because of the combination of harmonies and that background music. It gave me This Day Aria vibes honestly. Welcome to the Show is still my fav Gen 4 song though and I bought it on iTunes lol.
@@Zodia195 The pony i want to be, and I'm just a pony hold very special places in my heart... between - For I had believed what I was sold i did all the things that I was told But all that has changed and now im bold cause i know And I thought I was weak, but I am strong They sold me the world, but they were wrong And now that I'm back I still belong it just holds a place. course this also has an impact "One small thing, so much we can create You and me, we started something great It's so amazing, look around At all the happy sights and sounds One small thing is big, it's true"
I love how many people shines light on Mlp lately, reacting to the show itself and listening to their music, its nice to see that this show never really dies. There are even ponycons and meetings still happening and I love it 😊
I've been seeing it appear more in my recommended lol. I remember when it was relatively new but dropped off sometime around season 4 I think. As weird as drama could be sometimes, it was special.
There's still ponycons? I had no idea, honestly the community fell quiet when FIM ended and the new series started. But I don't think the new series based off what I've seen has the same magic
Thank you so much for giving our fandoms music a listen. I am so glad you have enjoyed it as we all have. Also "Flawless" is one of my all time favorites from the show. It always leaves me happy and upbeat. Lastly yes, Diamond Tiara makes a 180 and sees "the light of her cutie mark" stands up to her abusive mother, and works to change herself.
Still don't know how shows about PONIES have songs better than professional songs on the radio. Edit: There is a war in the reply section, go in the replies at your own risk.
Yes, Diamond Tiara actually changes her ways in this episode. Her cutie mark is for being compellingly commanding (her childish self phrases it as "getting others to do what I want"), but the CMC help her realize that there is a way out of the misery that's caused by subjugating herself to her awful mother's teachings and instruction - and that's by asserting herself and making the choice to use her skills to improve things for everyone, instead of constantly bringing them down to remain on top the way she'd been raised. And she does stick to this. And the CMC realize how great they are at helping others figure out their cutie marks (i.e. their very sense of purpose in life).
“The Light of your Cutie Mark” comes right after “Pony I Want to Be” and honestly, you just need to watch the entire episode. It works well as a standalone, but to have the context and feel the emotional punches, you need to AT LEAST watch all the episodes related to the Cutie Mark Crusaders (the three singing back to her). The entire episode (played as a musical) is a climax of their journey together, and becomes a turning point for them.
One that I definitely recommend is “I am just a pony”, It’s my favorite song in the show and always makes me cry, its sung by the same pony that sings “Razzle Dazzle” that you reacted to last video
"Magic inside" and "Pony I want to be" are the two songs that got me into watching the whole series. I was really depressed and sad around that time. Still love these songs and many others followed!
Yes, more mlp song reactions, thank you so much for making our day Mathew! there's hardly a single song in mlp G4 that wasn't a total banger well some of the songs may have their share of issues but a lot of people in the fandom loved them nonetheless.
im glad you mentioned applejack's 'too honest' line. theres actually an episode where she helps Rarity by judging for a fashion contest and she's INCREDIBLY brutally honest, to the point where the contestants morales are ruined and they drop out. its one of my favourite episodes.
I still can't get enough of those backing vocals from Pinkie in Flawless. Did you know in "Smile Smile Smile" it's actually *both* Pinkie Pie's singing? Her singing voice and regular voice actress complimenting each other, just spectacular.
I really hate that Applejack's flaw is apparently "being too honest", because in reality, she's well known for outright lying and dodging subjects in order to protect others' feelings. And it's a problem that's never addressed.
Yeah it kinda feels like they didn’t know how to make honesty a flaw. AJ _is_ the most level headed of the mane 6 tbf but her character flip-flopped sometimes. It would have been cool if they leaned more into the “bending the truth on technicalities is just as bad as lying” lessons.
@@anerrorhasoccurred8727 I remember when I saw the previews for Honest Apple, where Rarity asked Applejack to be a judge in her fashion show. I seriously thought, "Finally! They're gonna address how Applejack lies to protect other people's feelings." But then magically she didn't care about people's feelings that episode.
Honestly Applejack's worst flaw is stubbornness. It didn't even need to revolve around "honesty" being a flaw--none of the other Mane 6's flaws had to do with their element
MLP has some of the best songs ever. Some more songs I would recommend if you haven't listened to them yet are We Will Stand For Everfree, Unleash the Magic, Open Up Your Eyes, as well as some others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Flawless is a masssssive favourite for me; the words are so good and it really shows how different all the characters are. That’s important because when people think of mlp they think of girly nonsense, but it is so far from that. I’d love to see you check out “A Kirin’s Tale” because it has some of the best lyrics in the show when it comes to the chorus. In a similar vein to Flawless, it explores how you can’t have happiness without sadness or highs without lows. Another great one is from the same episode as “Spectacle” from your last video. I think it’s called “I’m just a pony”? Someone correct me if that’s wrong. It’s a lovely piano ballad.
It's called "The Magic Inside" and yes, 10/10 one of the best MLP songs to date! I also highly recommend "Find the Music In You" because it's just some FABULOUS acapella!
The song with Luna acting super ominous was from a Christmas episode (I think it's in season 6 or something) where they kind of did a mix of the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge stories but with ponies, and all of the songs from that episode are AWESOME. If you or anyone else wants to look into the rest of them, here is the order: Hearth's Warming Eve is Here Once Again Say Goodbye to the Holiday Seeds of the Past (parts 1 and 2) Pinkie's Present Luna's Future (the one in this video) A reprise of the first song
“Flawless” is the absolute best. It was the first song I listen to for this show, and I’m so happy to hear an in-depth review of why it’s amazing. It really is all about the harmonies.
“Open up your eyes” hit different. They went the full mile with that like entire movie. Even though obviously it was written to appeal more safely to children it still touchdown on some pretty deep stuff through that movie and that song specifically was banger. Even though it just kind of gave off a whole bunch of anxiety vibes. They didn’t hold back and i love it. I think the way the animated also gave more depth to the song as well as they had no issue drawing twilight terrified.
Diamond Tiara didn't end up going back to her old ways - she ended up helping her classmates to rebuild the playground, I think, because the reason her parents were mad was because she didn't get the votes to become the class president and somepony else won instead, but she accepted that in the end and stood up to her parents and used their money to buy new equipment for the playground, made friends and all. The cutie mark crusaders got their cutie marks this episode C:
A Hearthwarming's Tail, where Luna's Future is from, is a pony adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Might be worth reacting to, it's a fantastic stand alone episode, and it's packed with songs beginning to end.
MLP made a musical Christmas episode that is a tradition to watch every year in my house. "Luna's Future" is from that episode. I would love to see a reaction for that episode alone. All of the songs in it are FIRE. The other pony in the song (besides Luna) is Starlight Glimmer a "student of Twilight's in the matters of Friendship".
9:11 that’s starlight glimmer, in the same way that twilight is celestia’s student starlight is twilight’s student Honestly starlights introduction in the season 5 premiere are some of my favorite episodes (there’s 2 I think) and after that it’s just her character growing and learning friendship While she’s a late addition to the show she’s a good character and one of my favorites :)
I cannot even express how highly I recommend either a Kirin Tale from season 8 or Find the Magic from equestria girls. Both of those are just so well done, it's insane
Generally speaking, A Heartswarming Tail is the pony take on Scrooge's Christmas Carol. It's one of the objectively best takes on the story. And all the songs are bangers. Lunas Future is the ghost of Christmas future song. It'd be easier to look them up via the pony Christmas soundtrack (the one with the ponies dressed up cover) to find all the names of the songs. You should do a video of just the whole Christmas carol run. Between the decorating song, goodbye to the holiday, the ghost songs, and such, it's too good to skip. It also might be easier to just watch the episode and react to it that way, since it's like 70% songs.
Short answer to the dark Luna song, it's from MLP's version of The Christmas Carol, and she's the future ghost. The pony she's singing to is their Scrooge, but she's modeled after Twilight's student in the later seasons, Starlight Glimmer. She used to run a cult! She got better
Aloma Steele was credited for "Luna's future", while Princess Cadance (the pink princess) is both voiced and sung by Britt Mckillip in "You'll play your part". Britt Mckillip duo's with her sister in their band called one more girl so there is talent in quite a few of the songs. That's not counting some of the other artists that have songs in mlp like Sia, or Lena Hall who both have 1 song each. One being from the mlp movie, and the other is in the mane show.
You should listen to ‘Lullaby for a Princess’ and ‘The Moon Rises’ by ponyphonic They’re not official songs, but they are some of the most iconic ones of the entire fandom
One of the best things about "Flawless" is the very subtle mixing, so that whichever characters were actually on screen during the choruses were slightly brought up over the other four.
Fun fact, both of Luna's songs in this video feature different singers. The first one is Aloma Steele while the last one was Kazumi Evans, who was also Rarity's singing voice. My guess is that Kazumi was meant to be Luna's singing voice but the staff thought she sounded too much like Rarity and replaced her for future songs. Considering she voiced a bunch of other characters in the series like Adagio and Walflower, I'm okay with the change.
3:38 - "Does twilight just have sonic sound powers?" Yes, yes she does, All the alicorns/princesses have it. Luna refers to it as "The Royal Canterlot Voice." Its a very useful effect when you are speaking to 1000's of ponies from a balcony, when PA systems haven't been invented yet.
Always great to see more MLP songs. There really are a ton of great songs throughout it's 9 season run. I've asked before and I will humbly ask again since Christmas is coming up. Please react to songs from the "Christmas" episode from S6E8. Or the whole episode would be even better :D Hearths Warming Eve is Here Once Again (w/ reprise) Say Goodbye to the Holiday Seeds of the Past Pinkie's Present You just covered the last one here :P - Luna's Future
"Luna's Future" was from the show's take on A Christmas Carol. So with the holiday in the show being hearth's warming, Luna was playing the part of the spirit of hearth's warming yet to come. The other character in that song was Starlight Glimmer who was playing the equivalent of Scrouge in the story, she's a character that wasn't introduced until season 5.
the purple pony you mistook for twilight, is starlight glimmer, she was a major villian, for a while until she reformed and became the 7th member of the mane 6. that episode takes place after her reformation, but is actually twilight telling her the pony version of charles dickens's "a christmas carol" as a holiday special
you'll play your part makes me cry every single time I hear it, because the first time I watched that episode I felt exactly like she did, and just hearing the message I needed to hear in the form of such beautiful harmonies is just too much for me to handle 😅
The context of the "The light of your Cutie Mark" is: Diamond Tiara was going to make anything for win the votation for the new representant, it includes talk some lies, and Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom try to make her feel regret, and don't do bad things to others, showing her a better way. (The three don't know about her family)
I suggest listening to "The Midnight in Me" it is a Twilight solo from Equestria Girls, and I think it sounds a lot like "Luna's Future" music composition. Edit: Also I forgot to mention to listen to the continuation of "The Light of Your Cutie Mark", it is "We’ll Make Our Mark" so you get the conclusion of the story.
For context on "Glass of Water:" Through a convoluted chain of events in Season 3, Discord agreed to give up his plans for world domination as long as he could remain close friends with Fluttershy, BUT that didn't stop him from pulling cruel and unusual pranks across town for the rest of the series, like say, faking an illness to ruin Twilight's day.
Oh wait I don't remember, have you reacted to Celestia's ballad? It's a rather short song but when it comes to Celestia songs I really don't think the show ever got any better than that
Diamond tiara had a character arc in the episode that had the two songs; "Be the Pony I wanna be" and the other song [forgot the title]. After that song of them trying to persuade her, she goes to the school and goes against her mom and essentially after that became a better pony. It was such a well written episode, to show how sometimes parents being too overbearing/controlling can out stress on the kid because they don't want to define their parents but also don't know how else to act. I could go on but it's 2 am and I went on a tangent
Well, Diamond Tiara actually changed and she became better person. I really enjoyed this change, it was actually cool. BTW, I'm so goddamn glad there's another MLP reaction and I think you would like to see Pinkie pie's Wonderbolt rap✨
You should also check out the music of dead end paranormal park, the whole soundtrack is absolutely amazing, but “Courtney’s song”, “my Frankenstein”, “phantom of the theme park”, “just some guy”, and “driver’s seat” are the heavy hitters. Plus “I’m just a dog” if you want to hit season two as well.
I used to be OBSESSED with Flawless and Play Your Part. Not because the message(I see now that the meszage is good too), but because they're just so good and the voices are so.. 🥰
I don't know why but the line "As love finds a place in every heart" is my favorite. the sun and moon rise regardless of any imput but finding love for some feels impossible.
The hearths warming tail episode is a history episode going over the history of hearths warming eve and the pink pony not singing is a character from the past but like many of these songs going over history the ponies are played by characters that are from the current time line, her name is starlight glimmer, her character development is amazing and I love how she changes. Also princess Luna’s voice is so amazing in that song
As a long time MLP Fan, the songs in this series will always be my absolute favourites and you getting each of the message just makes me jump in delight!! I specifically love 'Light of the Cutie Mark' because i've always adored the CMC's vocals, I hope you make more reviews of their songs specifically because they're so underrated and never disappoint ^^
On the episode where "Glass of Water" came from, Cadence and Twilight wanted to have a day out to have some fun because they havent seen each other for a long time without it being in a fight for the future of equestria. Discord heard about it and decided to be his chaotic self, so he pretended to be sick so they would lose of fair abt magical stuff that was happening on that day. That song was kinda him making them lose time by requesting all those useless things when in the end he only wanted a glass of water that he could have summoned himself Flawless is a jab at the fandom for fighting over who is "the best pony" and pointing them as perfect The pony i wanna be comes before Light of your cutiemark. Its (in my opnion) one of the best episodes. It shows why Diamond Tiara acted so mean (her mom) and the cutiemark crusaders decide to help her change for the better. In the end Diamond Tiara turns out good and even face her mother telling her that her way of thinking she is superior is wrong. she ends up becoming friends with the CMC Luna's Future is basically the Spirit of Future Christmas thing. Snowfall Frost (being "interpreted" by starlight) Hates HeartsWarming Eve and so decided to make a spell to erase the holiday. AppleJack appears as the Spirit of Past Heartwarming showing why snowfall hates the day, Pinkie shows as the Spirit of Heartwarming Presents (yes, presents) and makes snowfall start to rethink the holiday and its meaning and Luna appears as the Spirit of Future to show what would happen if the spell succeeded, which is why the song is so somber. It is honestly one of the best songs in my opinion. Luna's singing voice is just amazing and powerful. You'll play your part there isnt much to say. twilight kinda insecure and being comforted. The harmonization on that one tho gives me chills every time
omg omg you should listen to "a better way to be bad"!!! they focus more on delivery than vocals, and it works wonders!!! plus its tango so you know its a 10/10
At this point mathew is just going to have to react to all the mlp song lol Btw, thanks for doing this, it's insane that almost no one talks about the musical content from MLP. The orchestration and songwriting is insane, Daniel Ingram is one hell of a beast for writing so many bangers for so many years consistently. Also -"open up your eyes" , "out on my own" "Pinkie's present" And "the seeds of the past" Are absolute musical bangers. I really hope you do more
If you’re wanting a nice Christmas song try Pinkie’s Present. It’s from an episode basically doing a Christmas carol (same episode as Luna’s future) with a song for each spirit. They’re all good but Pinkie’s Present is an absolute bop
Another great video :D!! if you ever happen to wanna do more pony songs, these are all pretty freakin' good :3: Our Town, A Kirin's Tale, Say Goodbye to the Holiday, We're Friendship Bound, Stop the Bats!, Flim Flam Miracle Curative Tonic, Pinkie's Lament
I really want Matt to react to (This is gonna be long. These are songs I really do want him to react to though): Awesome as I wanna be, Time To Be Awesome, One Small Thing, We Got This Together, Open Up Your Eyes, I Can See A Rainbow, The Midnight In Me, Time To Come Together, ACADECA, Morning In Ponyvile, The Ballad Of The Crystal Empire, Celestia's Ballad, Find The Music In You Let The Rainbow Remind You, Shake Your Tail, Better Than Ever, I'll Fly, Rules Of Rarity, We'll Make Our Mark, Friends are always there for you, Right There In Front Of Me, Out On My Own, The Seeds Of The Past, Derby Racers, Find The Purpose In Your Life, Hope Shines Eternal, You're In My Head Like A Catchy Song, Dance Magic, Good Vibes, Rise Up!, So Much More To Me, The Other Side, We've Come So Far, Your Heart Is In Two Places, All Good, The True Gift Of Giving, Cheer You On, Living In Color, Rainbow Roadtrip, True Original, The Place Where we Belong, Fit Right In, Lotta Little Things, Being big Is All It Takes, A Better Way To Be Bad, and The Magic Of Friendship Grows.
The operatic form known as recitative also often focuses on a single note whilst singing in a speech format. And gotta go with several others here, “A Kirin’s Tale” is a must. Humorous yet with a very important message about taking the bad with the good.
In "You'll Play Your Part" It means a lot to me.. I deal with bad mood episodes where I can't think, nor even know what is going around me. It makes me deal with a lot of self worth issues to the point I will mentally almost loose it. Play your part gets me out of that mind space.. as it is a bit reminder that I will always have time to grow.. *Sigh* MLP Really saves me..
Considering Apple Jack and Rainbow dash have the same voice actors as well as Fluttershy and PinkyPie, the fact they can get such great harmonies is fascinating and a show of the voice actors skills.
Love that MLP songs are getting attention they deserve :) I seriously recommend The Magic Inside and maybe The Spectacle too, since it's both from the same episode and related (in case you do both then watch The Spectacle first and then The Magic Inside, since that's how it chronologically happened and it's important for the plot) If you want context for the plot for that episode. It isn't necessary but I think it's fun Applejack's childhood friend grew up to be a celebrity pop star. But in her career she got swept up by the big labels, losing her authentic 'true self' along the way. Her manager was using and manipulating her to be this viral sensation that she wasn't at heart. Applejack helped her see how terrible her manager is and after exposing him in 4k she ditched him. Later at the concert was when she performed The Magic Inside.
The pony in Luna's Future is starlight, she is a reformed villain first seen in the beginning of season six and gets reformed at the end of the season. Also two songs I you should listen to are "A better way to be bad" and "A Kirin Tale" Also some context to two of the songs: Glass of Water ("Three's a crowd" S4 E11): Discord was faking a sickness because he wanted Twilight to travel a very long distance to retrieve a "cure" to the sickness, he did this cause he wanted to see if Twilight cared about him enough to go all that way. Flawless ("Fame and Misfortune" S7 E14): Back in season four the Mane Six had made a journal about lessons they have learned and so on, and it this episode they found it and published it with the intention of having ponies taking the lessons and learning from them but ponies instead were just being nuisances to the Mane Six.
I’d forgotten just how good some of these songs were! As the series goes on, it does go (relatively) in depth into the characterisations of the main cast, addresses their flaws, and allows them to grow as people. Particularly in a show for a young demographic, it was lovely to watch that kind of substance to the narrative.
out of all the songs in mlp as a whole, play your part sticks out the most to me. not only was it the first time we heard luna actually sing (which yes was a pretty huge deal at the time) but we heard a song with ALL of the princesses singing and harmonizing in such a beautiful way. not to mention the lyrics too, i've seen people be really inspired by them and for good reason. it's a beautiful song with great meaning.
Love these! Yeah MLP has some utterly fantastic songs and you have amazing reactions to them. Some other really damn awesome ones to check out next Pinkie's Present-From the same episode as Luna's Future and just, such a bop A Kirin's Tale-There are few words to prepare you for this amazing number. The Magic in You- Lena Hall's real big song (she sang the Pony Gaga type song from the last video, this is her going full tony award winning Broadway singer. Open Up Your Eyes- From the movie, and the movie's big villain song. One Small Thing- Also from the movie, if The Smile Song didn't exist, this song would be Pinkie's theme song.
I just LOVE the line "We know you want friends to admire you, to be the star with all the power too, but there's a better way". like, they aren't putting her down, or telling her her desires are wrong, they are telling her that there is another path she can take to reach those goals. its such a mature way to handle that type of person. and its one of my favorite lines from a song in the show. and I also love seeing people react to you'll play your part's harmony section.
The reason Discord seemed off in his delivery is that he actually was not sick and he was just imposing himself into the planned time between Cadance and Twilight.
The episod3 about thw ominous singing with Luna and Starlight was based on a christmas carol(Starlight was Scrooge and Luna what the spirit of Christmas Future)
I got a 4 and 6 year old, they love the show. I've, consequently, seen them all more than once. I was super surprised at some of the really good moral lessons in a lot of the episodes.
I’ve seen some other people recommend it but I really have to suggest listening to A Kirin Tale. It’s one of my favorite songs in the show and it’s not only a really good song but such a fun listen too!
always so glad to have you here with me 💙 hope things are wonderful for uuuu
Just to inform you, Diamond Tiara does in fact get redeemed. And the show (UNFORTUNATELY >:'() never uses her again.
Also if you want a nice Christmas-y song, Pinkie's Present is perfect. It's great. 😌
Next time you react to more MLP songs please react to "You're in my head like a catchy song" and "the magic of friendship grows"
Also the "Magic that's inside" is good too
I love mlp ! His fandom has amazing producers and very unique tracks! i recomend ponies at dawn and cider party channel you are gonna love it!

I wish Cadence had gotten to be in more songs, her voice is seriously beautiful
Yh I also wish they explored her character more. She felt a bit one dimensional if I'm being honest.
@@murderman7265 There are hints that she is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I think her wedding might have awakened something in her.
Britt McKillip is in a band, actually. "One More Girl" is the name of the duo with her sister Carly.
Fr
"The Pony I Want to Be" and "The Light of Your Cutie Mark" ARE from the same episode. The episode is called "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" and it had some of the greatest development for some of the secundary characters of the show. Just like many episodes of season 5, it impacted the series in such way that changed everything for the characters involved in it. But sadly this episode was the last of spotlight that Diamond Tiara ever had and that's something that I dislike up until today, because there was so much potencial in exploring her development.
She had such ponytential
Also to clarify, Diamond Tiara DID change her ways at the end of the episode to become a kinder person.
It's kinda like how Pacifica changing in gravity falls
Where once she was redeemed we hardly see her
Honestly that and I found the CMC's cutie mark design to be kind of awful. I saw fan interpretations that held the same unifying theme and looked better, I just thought what we actually got looked kind of garish.
too bad Diamond Tiara never makes a significant appearance in the series after that episode. Character development for nothing.
Applejack saying “there's such thing as being too honest” is important because sometimes her honesty can be a bit brutal.
Yeah, AJ had an episode earlier that season about learning to give constructive criticism without just eviscerating people.
I still stand by the fact AJ and RD should have their elements reversed
There’s no such thing as being too honest. Being rude and honest isn’t a problem with honesty. It’s the rudeness.
@@ansonsieu8428
But RD’s whole thing is that she’s super competitive, but still loyal.
Exactly!
@@rawmeatrex it could be both! Leadership often comes with an inherent kinda privilege (social privilege at least) so her arc could be about how to channel her influence over others.
And then never appears in the show again!
I like that idea. How did she find her cutie mark any way?
So while it's usually 5 people, it's still cool
I also always love to talk about the difficulties of people singing in character, it's hard as heck & very impressive
Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Twilight have distinct singing voices from their regular voices:
Shannon Chan-Kent sings for Pinkie Pie
Kazumi Evans sings for Rarity
Rebecca Soichet sings for Twilight
But yeah Ashleigh Ball does both RD and AJ
@@MathewMcKenna oh yeah, I thought they all had the same singing voices and speaking except for Twilight who’s singing voice is Rebecca Soichet (who is the speaking voice for Sunset Shimmer in equestria girls). Sorry for the mis information 😅
Tara isn't the singer though??? Twilight has 2 voice actresses, Rebecca (I think) is the singing voice
The fact that Ashleigh voices both RD and AJ, AND does both of their singing voices as well, is always gonna be SO freakin impressive to me
Some more suggestions: “raise this barn”, “bats!”, “apples to the core”, “in our town”, “you’re in my head like a catchy song”, “kirin tale”, “better way to be bad”, and “as the magic of friendship grows”. All fantastic songs and most of them are seriously underrated! And from the movie, “time to be awesome” and “open up your eyes” are both incredible!
oh my god absolutely seconding "our town" it's so delightfully upsetting
This
Also “magic inside of you” is super good
“Our town,” “better way to be bad,” and “bats!” Are some of my favs
I *need* to see this guy listen to “In Our Town,” I think that’d be hilarious (plus I love love love that song)
So quick plot clarifications
-Discord was technically redeemed I think in season 2-3 thanks to Fluttershy making a huge effort to actually be his friend, but he was kinda annoying for most of the show and she was the only one who really liked him that much. In that episode, he fakes an illness and gets Twilight and Cadence to go above and beyond for him to “test their friendship”.
-Diamond Tiara makes a last second decision to stand up to her mom who was causing problems for the school, and is doing her best to be nice to others from that point on. This is also the episode where the girls get their cutie marks (the theme is that they help others find their life’s purpose)
-Luna’s Future is from the shows version of A Christmas Carol. The main cast are used to reenact the story, and Luna plays the ghost of Christmas Future. The purple pony is a redeemed villain from a previous season.
discord is the pony version of Q
Discord early on could be justified since the friendship seems to be only from one, and given he doesn't see how meaningful it is, just that it's valuable, it feels more like a different prison and when given freedom, takes it
It changes a bit in general for the better after Sugar Belle moves to Ponyville with a selfless act not pushed onto him and nothing major against others(his actions in The Big Mac Question are less emotionally charged and just a consequence from a quick action)
Daniel Ingram, the guy who wrote the MLP songs, is amazing
Yea.
Don't forget about William Anderson!
He is the composer of a game in development "Billie Bust Up", go see "I've had enough of you" and "A million gruesome ways to die"
I have met him in person. I can confirm that he is an amazing person.
Daniel Ingram should write for Broadway if he doesn't already.

I think MLP FiM is going to end up being alot like something like Sailor Moon or Sonic X, where people are going to be talking about it for decades.
@@SBaby very true!☺️
Thank you so much for giving our fandoms music a listen. I am so glad you have enjoyed it as we all have. Also "Flawless" is one of my all time favorites from the show. It always leaves me happy and upbeat.
Lastly yes, Diamond Tiara makes a 180 and sees "the light of her cutie mark" stands up to her abusive mother, and works to change herself.
Yea..
Mine is play your part
Flawless is SO good
Flawless is definitely my favorite :)
Still don't know how shows about PONIES have songs better than professional songs on the radio.
Edit: There is a war in the reply section, go in the replies at your own risk.
i wouldn't say that
Because a horse sing it and they sing it good
I'm guessing it's mostly about the Story. The ponies are Just there to make it cute.

Dedication
OH, YES i love that one too
"The Magic Inside" is the main title. Razzle Dazzle is also called "It's a Spectacle".
Is there an MLP related video that you don't have a comment below?
@@Musicalheart430 Whether i do or not it doesn't really matter either way.

im glad you mentioned applejack's 'too honest' line. theres actually an episode where she helps Rarity by judging for a fashion contest and she's INCREDIBLY brutally honest, to the point where the contestants morales are ruined and they drop out. its one of my favourite episodes.
I still can't get enough of those backing vocals from Pinkie in Flawless. Did you know in "Smile Smile Smile" it's actually *both* Pinkie Pie's singing? Her singing voice and regular voice actress complimenting each other, just spectacular.
I always thought it was rarity in flawless
I'm assuming you're talking about the falsetto backing vocals, Fluttershy did those. Pinkie did have some but they weren't the falsetto ones
I'm pretty sure it is Pinkie's singing
I really hate that Applejack's flaw is apparently "being too honest", because in reality, she's well known for outright lying and dodging subjects in order to protect others' feelings. And it's a problem that's never addressed.
Yeah it kinda feels like they didn’t know how to make honesty a flaw. AJ _is_ the most level headed of the mane 6 tbf but her character flip-flopped sometimes.
It would have been cool if they leaned more into the “bending the truth on technicalities is just as bad as lying” lessons.
I wish AJ is rainbow swapped their elements. AJ is more loyal then Rainbow and Rainbow is more honest then AJ
@@Kat-xy7fmSeason 4 kind of did it with the key episodes(only excluding Rarity and a little bit for Rainbow)
MLP has some of the best songs ever. Some more songs I would recommend if you haven't listened to them yet are We Will Stand For Everfree, Unleash the Magic, Open Up Your Eyes, as well as some others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I believe he listened to Unleash the magic in an Equestria girls video
Yea..
he already did unleash the magic (ruclips.net/video/Uz4UqhokNgo/видео.html)
we will stand for everfree ABSOLUTELY, in that same vein, i totally think he should listen to the midnight in me!
Don't forget Battle of the Bands.
If you or anyone else wants to look into the rest of them, here is the order:
Hearth's Warming Eve is Here Once Again
Say Goodbye to the Holiday
Seeds of the Past (parts 1 and 2)
Pinkie's Present
Luna's Future (the one in this video)
A reprise of the first song
Absolutely agreed with the title, most mlp songs are honestly such bops but super underrated mlp songs deserve much more attention.
Yes i cant agree more!!
"I HAVE LISTENED TO THIS DAY ARIA!" good. Listen to it again anyway. (Lol I'm just kidding, I am interested to hear your thoughts on it tho)
This day is still a bop!!!
9:11 that’s starlight glimmer, in the same way that twilight is celestia’s student starlight is twilight’s student
Honestly starlights introduction in the season 5 premiere are some of my favorite episodes (there’s 2 I think) and after that it’s just her character growing and learning friendship
While she’s a late addition to the show she’s a good character and one of my favorites :)
You should listen to ‘Lullaby for a Princess’ and ‘The Moon Rises’ by ponyphonic
They’re not official songs, but they are some of the most iconic ones of the entire fandom
3:38 - "Does twilight just have sonic sound powers?"
Yes, yes she does, All the alicorns/princesses have it.
Or the whole episode would be even better :D
Hearths Warming Eve is Here Once Again (w/ reprise)
Say Goodbye to the Holiday
Seeds of the Past
Pinkie's Present
You just covered the last one here :P - Luna's Future
"Luna's Future" was from the show's take on A Christmas Carol. So with the holiday in the show being hearth's warming, Luna was playing the part of the spirit of hearth's warming yet to come. The other character in that song was Starlight Glimmer who was playing the equivalent of Scrouge in the story, she's a character that wasn't introduced until season 5.
You really need to watch the entire series because these songs have a lot of narrative build up that makes them hit so much harder in the feels.
the purple pony you mistook for twilight, is starlight glimmer, she was a major villian, for a while until she reformed and became the 7th member of the mane 6. that episode takes place after her reformation, but is actually twilight telling her the pony version of charles dickens's "a christmas carol" as a holiday special
you'll play your part makes me cry every single time I hear it, because the first time I watched that episode I felt exactly like she did, and just hearing the message I needed to hear in the form of such beautiful harmonies is just too much for me to handle 😅
"You'll Play Your Part" always gives me chills. It's so good.
Him being confused about discord literally the embodiment of chaos and disharmony love it
Of all 9 seasons, “Flawless” is definitely my FAVORITE MLP song! ❤
You should really react to some of the highest rated episodes like the perfect pear
Yes! Please do Perfect Pear by Buttercup. It’s just so wholesome
@@celestialgiven heck I recommend he check out IMDb's top 10 highest rated episodes and start from the bottom then work his way to the top
Luna's future is probably my favourite song from the show, mostly due to the fact it was Luna's only solo song
The high harmonies in Flawless is made by fluttershy, she's said to be the best singing pony of the group followed by rarity :3
_Luna's Future_ was a song in an episode that was a parody of *A Christmas Carol* with a pony that will be revealed in the Season 5 premiere.
This show is honestly INCREDIBLY good. Worth the watch.
Nice, we just all need more of these cut they're just amazing, keep it up!
I love seeing you react to these song and you might like "The Magic Inside (I am just a pony)". It's really touching.
If you want a nice winter/Christmassy song, go for "Pinkies Present." It's from the same episode, basically their rendition of a Christmas carol
Flawless is actually one of my favorite songs ever to come out of this show. And I love all the songs in Crusaders of the lost Mark
10:43 They've got plenty of those too. From the same episode "Pinkie's present" and from the other christmas special I've always loved "One More Day"
You'll Play Your Part is one of my favorite MLP songs ever! I'm glad you listened to it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Monster High songs!
Talking about eyes popping out of stress toy, I have a little secret.
I used to be obsessed with COLLECTING eyes from drawings or other things😅
On the episode where "Glass of Water" came from, Cadence and Twilight wanted to have a day out to have some fun because they havent seen each other for a long time without it being in a fight for the future of equestria. Discord heard about it and decided to be his chaotic self, so he pretended to be sick so they would lose of fair abt magical stuff that was happening on that day. That song was kinda him making them lose time by requesting all those useless things when in the end he only wanted a glass of water that he could have summoned himself
Flawless is a jab at the fandom for fighting over who is "the best pony" and pointing them as perfect
The pony i wanna be comes before Light of your cutiemark. Its (in my opnion) one of the best episodes. It shows why Diamond Tiara acted so mean (her mom) and the cutiemark crusaders decide to help her change for the better. In the end Diamond Tiara turns out good and even face her mother telling her that her way of thinking she is superior is wrong. she ends up becoming friends with the CMC
Luna's Future is basically the Spirit of Future Christmas thing.
The harmonization on that one tho gives me chills every time
The winter song is from a parody episode of A Christmas Carol and Luna is the spirt of Hearts Warming (their version of Christmas) future.
omg omg you should listen to "a better way to be bad"!!! they focus more on delivery than vocals, and it works wonders!!! plus its tango so you know its a 10/10
At this point mathew is just going to have to react to all the mlp song lol
Btw, thanks for doing this, it's insane that almost no one talks about the musical content from MLP.
The orchestration and songwriting is insane, Daniel Ingram is one hell of a beast for writing so many bangers for so many years consistently.
Also -"open up your eyes" , "out on my own" "Pinkie's present" And "the seeds of the past" Are absolute musical bangers.
I really hope you do more
Since you did "Luna's Future" then you gotta do "Pinkie's Present" that song is incredible
If you’re wanting a nice Christmas song try Pinkie’s Present. It’s from an episode basically doing a Christmas carol (same episode as Luna’s future) with a song for each spirit. They’re all good but Pinkie’s Present is an absolute bop
Another great video :D!!
if you ever happen to wanna do more pony songs, these are all pretty freakin' good :3:
Our Town, A Kirin's Tale, Say Goodbye to the Holiday, We're Friendship Bound, Stop the Bats!, Flim Flam Miracle Curative Tonic, Pinkie's Lament
OUR TOWN IS SUCH A BOP
13:22 i love when Princess Cadance sings her voice actor is amazing
13:22 RIGHT!? Britt McKillip's voice is insanely gorgeous!!! In this song AND in This Day Aria, she absolutely kills it !
I LOVE when Luna sings. HER VOICE IS SO MAJESTIC🤍
When Starlight said “who are you?” To Luna.
I fully expected Mathew to say
“Who are you?!” Back at her. 😂
In "You'll Play Your Part"
It means a lot to me.. I deal with bad mood episodes where I can't think, nor even know what is going around me. It makes me deal with a lot of self worth issues to the point I will mentally almost loose it.
Play your part gets me out of that mind space.. as it is a bit reminder that I will always have time to grow..
*Sigh*
MLP Really saves me..
Considering Apple Jack and Rainbow dash have the same voice actors as well as Fluttershy and PinkyPie, the fact they can get such great harmonies is fascinating and a show of the voice actors skills.
"The Magic Inside "is also gorgous
Love that MLP songs are getting attention they deserve :)
I seriously recommend The Magic Inside and maybe The Spectacle too, since it's both from the same episode and related (in case you do both then watch The Spectacle first and then The Magic Inside, since that's how it chronologically happened and it's important for the plot)
If you want context for the plot for that episode. It isn't necessary but I think it's fun
Applejack's childhood friend grew up to be a celebrity pop star.
Also two songs I you should listen to are "A better way to be bad" and "A Kirin Tale"
Also some context to two of the songs:
Glass of Water ("Three's a crowd" S4 E11): Discord was faking a sickness because he wanted Twilight to travel a very long distance to retrieve a "cure" to the sickness, he did this cause he wanted to see if Twilight cared about him enough to go all that way.
Some other really damn awesome ones to check out next
Pinkie's Present-From the same episode as Luna's Future and just, such a bop
A Kirin's Tale-There are few words to prepare you for this amazing number.
If you want a full-on villain song, I'd suggest "Better Way to be Bad"
I love watching a youtuber/muscian reacting to random songs lol, also she does change and actually becomes nice
We would love a Matthew Cover LoL
The episod3 about thw ominous singing with Luna and Starlight was based on a christmas carol(Starlight was Scrooge and Luna what the spirit of Christmas Future)
I talk too much ;-;
I got a 4 and 6 year old, they love the show.
8:00 yes that was in fact the same episode as “be the pony I wanna be”
And in the end of the episode she does change to a better pony so yeah
