ABS tends to be better for people just getting started and wanting to draw in the air. Over time people tend to PLA as it is the better plastic but no so much when first starting out.
Unfortunately you need more then just a 3Doodler to make more 3Doodlers as there are motors, heating elements, electronics and so on. You could make some of a 3Doodler but not the whole thing at lest not yet.
The Filament is 3mm so it's more per inch then 1.75mm also all of our filament is made in the USA and heavily tested. It's hight quality. Also, curvature in filament puts extra pressure on the drive mechanisms and reduces the life time the pen, and pulling from a spool also decrease life time of the pen. We have spent a lot of time testing and thinking about 3D pens and we want people to have the best time possible. Part of that is having good quality filament.
Note that we recommend using 3Doodler-brand filaments. Our pens aren't compatible with third party filaments, and the curvature in the spool causes damage to the internal mechanisms of the pen.
I think you forget that the 3Doodler is a plastic welder and can augment 3D prints. I often make modifications, join parts and so on with the 3Doodler to 3D printed parts. Also you can doodle the part before you print it, this can save time and help you when design your 3D part. So 3Doodler is for engineers and artist the same way a rotary tool can be used for both engineers and artists. After all both are building things.
3Doodler Create+ and Pro+ are the best for drawing in the air. Remember it takes 3sec for ABS to harden and 6 for PLA so you need to draw up. Hold for 3~6sec and then continue, unless you are drawing up to something that has already hardened. Hope that helps.

There seems generally biased towards children’s attempts which are frankly not a true representation of the pens abilities here on youtube , some exceptions like hoops mini world , but it’s a shame it seems almost a trivial piece of equipment, could you do a really involved piece of creativity to show the pens potential.
