It's not it's a car you'll be able to buy. They have even showed the design in the autobiography last year and it's just a stainless cybertruck
I don't think it matters because it will years to manufacture them and you'll have to pay Tesla a monthly subscription

Very hard to believe it is possible in the near future
Understand that announcing the design does NOT mean it will be in production for commercial widespread use ANY TIME SOON.
There could be a long testing ramp, or a long ramp for the software to get good enough. And the introduction could WELL be in very LIMITED "easy" areas.
It's improving, and that's great. But being too soon would be BAD press and potential BIG liability.
If by "possible" you mean practical Tesla robotaxi networks over a very wide area (like say the Lower US 48 or even a large part of that) in nearly all weather conditions, then I think you're absolutely right.
For one example, cities like Chicago, NYC, etc. are VERY tough environments for this to be good enough in.
And I say this as a patient, long term TSLA investor, looking forward to reliable and ubitquitous robotaxis in my old age. (I'm 65, and hopefully have well over a decade before that becomes a significant issue for me).
Robo taxi will not be announcing autonomy. Do finance people even pay attention. FSD is making progress but no way they are announcing autonomy. THey are announcing the eventual car. Calm down.

Still no comment from Musk or Tesla. Perhaps Reuters got it wrong? Wouldn't be the first time. Everyone talking like it happened when it is still a rumor.
If it was inaccurate, wouldn't he jump at the chance to point that out? I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed back, but he's now scrambling teams together to put the event together as scheduled just to say the reporting was wrong.
@@TheSpartan3669 It is a rumor that doesn't require comment. Additionally, the SEC has what's called a quiet period around earnings release where the company is restricted from making comments. This might be a factor.
The timeline doesn't really matter, now or next year or 3 years. Fact is, as soon as it's here, Tesla will be the only one and all taxi's can be replaced and a whole job category will disappear.

You assume Tesla will be first AND Tesla will be the only one.
VERY unlikely. Tesla will likely have plenty of competition -- look at China for example.
Three years might be way too soon for it to TRULY be CONSISTENT enough, especially for a HUGE network like the whole US lower 48 states.
Meanwhile, over time, Tesla stationary energy storage might well grow larger than Tesla automotive. Other Tesla AI could become a big thing over time.
NO ONE knows the future with any meaningful precision.
