Shubert’s tenth symphony, like the seventh, was found incomplete. It was his last musical contribution before he died. Once again it was Professor Newbould who ended up having the conductor Pierre Bartholomeé as a reviewer of his version, with somewhat controversial results. The symphony is wonderful, especially the first movement that contains one of the most divine, sublime and beautiful melodies composed by Shubert. Later , Luciano Bério finally uses it as an inspiring source for his work “Rendering”.The orchestration and direction are flawless with an interpretation of great soul and sensitivity. Bravissimo Shubert and his unrivaled music.

The slow movement is the jewel here. Anticipates Mahler by many decades.

Agreed 100%. All four movements are quite fine at the least, but the slow movement is extraordinary.
Do the other three movements occupy the same level as the “great” and the “unfinished”? I’m not sure

That 3rd movement reminds me of Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and Handel all at once.

Love the slow movement. The other movements are typical Schubert melodies that cannot go unnoticed

It's interesting that those who listened to Marriner and St Martin in the Fields playing the same work collectively expressed themeelves positively, a refreshing contrast to Kris9kris's outpourings of his bowels of contempt. I've never heard this before just now, but I greatly enjoyed it.

I think we may be in "Mahler 10th " territory with the Scubert 10th. There are conductors who will not touch the Deryck Cooke performing version of the Mahler . I had the good fortune to see a performance of the Mahler 10th with the Cleveland Orchestra under Simon Rattle. I became a believer. The Newbould performing version may be controversial. Many may damn it. I find it delightfully bracing. Guess I am a philistine.

a beautiful symphony but definitely a regression from the 8th and 9th.
