Steering Wheel Replacement - 2003-06 Subaru Baja

This will work for a Subaru Baja models 2003-2006.
I used a steering wheel from a 2003 Subaru Outback.

IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING THIS. NOT DOING SO COULD RESULT IN DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG.
1st thing I thought as soon as I heard the horn beep. The guys at one of the shops I do tech support for detonate the recalled Takata airbags that are removed. They pack a heck of a punch.

The fact that you use the word "loosened" on those T30s was so clutch; I was about to snap those tabs.
This was so easy. It took me less than 10 minutes. If your steering wheel is jacked up, replace it. I bought this brand new wheel on Ebay for $170 you can get them a lot cheaper. I just wanted this leather wood grain version.. You guys got this! Do it!
I need to change mine also, and put in a new turn signal switch in my Dodge Ram. I think I have to use a steering wheel puller for mine as a lot of the American Vehicles are pressed on. I have one of those but it is in storage and it would take an act of congress to find it haha. I have always liked those Subaru's. They say they last forever.

Great video but a few issues:
1) Disconnect the battery and wait two mins before touching the airbag harness.
2) don't let the clockspring rotate (the spinning thing with the "top" and "bottom" arrows) without the wheel attached. You rotated yours a full 360 degrees when you removed the wheel. That can damage the clockspring.
Well, that new one looks pretty darned classy!

a man of many talents. i used to be really into mechanic work... but doing it so often of necessity destroyed it for me.. now i hate it lol
Also a tip, disconnect the battery and remove the Airbag fuse 10 mins prior to removing airbag.. the last thing you'd want is that thing going off while you're holding it.

I just bought a 2000 legacy with a old rubber wheel and bought a new Subaru momo wheel out of a 2002 Subaru Impreza wrx, I just realized that the new wheel doesn't include the cruise control arm so hopefully I can drill out the slot for that and continue to use it if not it's not a huge deal considering I don't use it often but hopefully I'll work

That looked pretty easy, I would be worried about setting off the airbag. Did you have to disconnect the battery first? The new wheel looks great Jaxx......Take care, Bluefin.

Hi Jaxx Drinkwater. I have question: is position behind steering wheel same after change? I see shape of first -silver and second "brown" are different,so that is reason why i'm asking... Ps. Would you like to sell maybe that ripped "silver"?

What size is the star screw?
My steering wheel is not centered with wheels after replacement, i was not really lucky :(
I bought the LLBean wheel, installed but the Baja airbag won’t fit. It won’t go far enough down into the opening. Did you buy a different airbag?
I didn't buy the LL Bean wheel.
Even with my superior brain I'm not sure I would have attempted that. To top this video I plan on doing an oil change on my Suburban completely naked.

That was way easy. I remember hearing how hard it was to pull a steering wheel off an Americians made car.
You are right. sometimes you have to have a steering wheel pull tool. I made a video on changing out the struts that I haven't posted yet. Now that a little more involved.
