Rockstar were too lazy, they just handed it to a company they bought responsible for making the mobile versions of the trilogy named Grove Street Games and they worked on it for two (!!!) years. Unfortunately the results are one big disappointment... This guy alone could remaster all 3 games better than those clowns.
I like that, unlike the many videos with "remastered" cut-scenes, it saves an original Vice City art-style instead of just using similiar Gta 5 models.

I just saw GTA Series live stream of the definitive edition for Vice City.... It looks so plain and without vibrant colors; its dark in many of the cutscenes. You definitely spoiled us! You should've been the creative director for this remaster or at least a well-listened advisor on this endeavor. The remastered looks improved from the original version but to what many people were expecting in terms of quality; not really thought out on this one. Also, the company that remastered this trilogy, was the one who flopped the 20th anniversary port of GTA:SA couple years ago...

If Rockstar ever did release a remastered version like this, it would set the sales chart on fire. There are a lot of GTA fans all over the world and the sales of GTA 5 is testament to that fact.
Well, GTA 5 is the exception, while GTA has always been a big name, ever since 3 and especially San Andres, but there is no way even half of the GTA V players are returning from previous games, let alone the 3d universe. I mean let's be real, Vice City is probably older than 70-80% of the playerbase. Really the GTA 3 game engine is too old to make anything worth playing by today's standards, if they were to remake it, it would have to be in a whole new engine with an entirely different combat and driving system.

The amount of effort you made into producing and re enacting the cutscenes is astonishing, and the fact you used the Max Payne 3 narrative style to progress the cutscene is just icing in the cake! Visegrad Patriot You know, for being a sandbox game where you can do whatever the hell you want, and being from 2002 or something, graphics are pretty decent. Of course they look like shit though, but the game has aged amazingly!
It fits with Vice City's 80s theme imo. Clever choice right there, though i'd have preffered if it only was the pop-ups. The other effects seem a bit too out of place, even for Vice City's style.

Its always weird, I grew up in the late 90s and I figured the 80s nostalgia would warp into the next generation and it never seemed to. Seems like 80s just had that magic. I suspect the 2010s may get something similar for different reasons though.

I think the point was for it to capture the same artistic style that Vice City had as opposed to the "realistic" look of GTA 4 and 5.
futurestoryteller I don't know man, maybe my love for 80's Miami stuff is just too insane. I've finished Vice City back in the day at least 10 times lmao. The graphics don't have to look like the ones in GTA V, but they could be updated a little, and that little difference is a big one to me.

It fits with Vice City's 80s theme imo. Clever choice right there, though i'd have preffered if it only was the pop-ups. The other effects seem a bit too out of place, even for Vice City's style.

This is what makes me laugh. When Vercetti went down to Vice City he never even had the intention of taking over. It just sort of happened.

Words cannot express how angry it makes me when you see dozens of articles saying that GTA VI shouldn't be set in the 80's. Nothing can beat the kind of atmosphere that the 80's just naturally generates.
Its always weird, I grew up in the late 90s and I figured the 80s nostalgia would warp into the next generation and it never seemed to. Seems like 80s just had that magic.
I suspect the 2010s may get something similar for different reasons though.
