Hello! Survivalcraft veteran here! Overall, a very good video, although me and @NBG noticed you got quite a few things incorrect and we wanted to provided proper explanations for the uninformed. I know we're a bit late to the party (only 4 months late), but I just saw this video today and I wanted to give my thoughts on it. I've been playing this game for a total of 10 years; although I didn't start really taking it seriously until about 4 years ago. I've been creating 'electronics' systems in the game for about the same amount of time (I document these projects on my YT), so I would say I am at least somewhat qualified to discuss what I am about to mention in the section below. With that out of the way, let's get to the point of this comment: 3:11 While I understand you probably made this claim due to the lack of information, this is simply NOT true. Let me explain. Minecraft's Redstone makes use of much simpler components with simple behaviors. Their uses are not straightforward; rather, they are more ambiguous (more confusing to use together). This does NOT mean they are more complex in essence. Survivalcraft's electronics system is quite the opposite of this. Components have much more complex behaviors, and are more condensed in size in comparison to their similar Redstone counterparts. This means that you can accomplish the same task (and sometimes more) with less components taking up less physical space within the world. Not only this, but the speed at which Survivalcraft electronics operate is 100 Hz (100 times a second). In comparison, vanilla Redstone components operate a much lower speed than this (yes, I am aware of mods and commands, I am only comparing base vanilla versions without modifications). 3:35 The game was actually made by a solo developer, Marcin Igor Kalicinski. We do know that his son did contribute to the code in the latest update, 2.3. He has an official blog where he posts updates regarding the game, I can link you the site on discord (YT doesn't like links in comments). 3:57 It's quite funny really, because there are a lot of features that Survivalcraft had way before Minecraft did. A few examples of such are: crossbows, vertical signs, ridable camels, copper ore, extended terrain height and generation, and even a secondary stone layer underground (think deepslate, but in this case it's basalt). 4:48 This probably isn't worth to point out, but there actually is a 4% chance to get a diamond from killing a werewolf. 6:28 Survivalcraft 2 wasn't always supposed to exist. In 2016, update 1.30 was supposed to be released; however, at some point during pre-release, Kaalus decided that he wanted to release 1.30 as a separate game in order to celebrate the game's 5 year anniversary. The price was heavily discounted for a period of time so people who already owned the first game could switch over without having to pay full price again. Many of us are not in favor of this decision looking back, but it is what it is. 6:50 This technically is the case, but at the same time it isn't. Yes, individual furniture blocks must be contained within a single block space, but that doesn't mean you can't use multiple furniture blocks to create one much larger design. There are a few Survivalcraft players that have mastered this, and have recreated full-on vehicles just using vanilla furniture. 7:11 Another common misconception about Survivalcraft's electronics is the fact that they do NOT closely resemble any sort of real-world electronics systems. Rather, they more closely resemble real-world programming and logic principles more than anything. Power is implied, but not a game mechanic that exists in any capacity. 'Electricity' is a just a category components are themed towards, in order to distinguish its 'electronics' system from other games of similar type. This does not mean components in Survivalcraft have anything to with real-world electrical engineering principles. I will say though, creating displays and CPUs is POSSIBLE within the game, as many have tried (not many have succeeded). The main issue comes down to the game not being optimized enough, which has discouraged many. Survivalcraft RUclipsr @SP4CEBAR has succeeded at creating the former; however, not many CPUs have been created (of the same caliber, I know 4-Bit and 8-Bit CPUs exist in Survivalcraft). 7:27 Back in 2011, the game was just a simple Minecraft clone. Kaalus really liked the concept of Minecraft and decided to make his own version. He decided to develop it on Windows Phone 7, simply because there were no Minecraft clones on that specific platform at the time. This proved to be quite taxing on the game's overall performance, as Windows Phones were pretty terrible at the time. This is also partly why it took him so long to port and optimize the game for PC and modern devices (and it's still not perfect). You can read more about this in the interview he had with WP-Games; I'll also link this in the discord if needed. 7:48 It wasn't always this way. Survivalcraft used to get constant updates from 2011 up till 2016, which is where updates really started to slow down. Many suggest that Kaalus just become burnt on from working on the game constantly, which may be partly true. But, we do know now that he has a family and a full-time job outside of working on Survivalcraft, which he really considers to just be a side hobby he works on for fun in his spare time. That's mostly why updates take so darn long (and are lackluster). 7:50 Unfortunately, I don't think Kaalus will see this video. The last official post he made was over two years ago, and he doesn't even respond to emails anymore. He doesn't engage with the community like he used to, and it's a shame. However, that doesn't mean he isn't still developing Survivalcraft. He's just silent until he's ready to release something. I should also note that he is active on Stack Overflow from time to time, so we at least know he's busy on SOMETHING. What that is, we still don't know yet. 8:10 2.3 was definitely a lackluster update in terms of actual content, it had an extremely important change, that being a new world compression format. World sizes have been HEAVILY reduced, which is incredibly important for those on mobile devices with limited storage size. 9:03 So, the last thing to tackle is modding and third-party software in general. There is (non-official) multiplayer clients that work on both LAN and WAN networks, as well as dedicated servers. It's not GREAT, but it works (well enough). There have been problems with verification and piracy (since the modified clients are cracked versions), and it's still in a grey area since Kaalus has been slient regarding this entire topic as of yet. There is also a mod API, which allows for the loading of custom mods (such as world edit, content mods, etc.). The best (and safest) way to access it is to join the OFFICIAL (sort of) Survivalcraft discord, the link of which I can also provide in your server. Alright, I think I've covered everything. The links I've mentioned above I will have to provide another way (apparently that's why @NBG's comment was blocked). I know that was a lot, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. If someone thinks I missed something, or I made a mistake, feel free to let me know and I'll consider correcting it. If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading! I hope this comment finds you well.
I will pin this comment for all to see, largely because it'll be an important asset for knowledge and information about this game. I very greatly appreciate the constructive criticism! Also note, you're right on the fact that it's hard to find information on good sources, I usually stray away from game Wikipedia's and try to seek RUclips videos explaining certain aspects of the game, that being said. Having direct knowledge about the use of the mechanics of this game is extremely helpful for anyone looking to play this game. Also, I checked my held for review comments and I couldn't find him there. I don't know if RUclips got involved or something or that the time it was there expired. Like I said thank you for the insight and I hope you have a good day!
@@acidicalportal4418 Thank you so much! Yeah I'm not sure what happened either, he tried to post it again and it was blocked a second time. I'm just going to add his points to my original message that way everyone can see them.
3:57 is quite complete but you are still missing some items that Survivalcraft had before Minecraft such as target, motion detector (Sculk Sensor in Minecraft), magnet (Lodestone in Minecraft) and there are some other things I sometimes can't remember.
My first night in Survivalcraft was scarier than my first night in Minecraft. Some kind of primal fear always kicked in whenever I heard the sounds of a lion or a wolf in the middle of the night while my character is starving lmao
Survival Craft 2 also has a ripoff (mini block craft ) all items, animals, tools, etc are same like survival craft 2 but survival craft is paid but mini block craft is free and functions like flu, cold, naursea are same in mini block craft but mini block craft is very laggy and survival craft is smooth like butter.
In my opinion, survivalcraft isn't just a minecraft clone, not only because it's my childhood but because as you said theres a lot of new and fun mechanics in it. I played this game a lot as a kid cause I didn’t want to ask my parents to buy Minecraft. I made such good memories playing this. I now kinda wish they bring it back to life again
I just pick this game back up a few weeks ago after playing and dismissing it as a MC clone years before. Now after getting used to the mechanics I feel like it is fundamentally more sound mechanically as a survival game than Minecraft. Actually, it suits me better as I am an older gamer and appreciate how Survival Craft stays grounded in the real world. I am glad I am beginning to see more new content for this game as much of it is from a few years ago. I am excited as I feel there is a small ressurgance in the community. Now that simplicity is currently trending in the MC community I can see more folks turning to this as an alternative. It is a good, solid, simple and complete game. Great vid! Would love to see more SC content!
I LOVE THIS GAME! I'm so glad someone is giving it attention. I remember playing the hell out of this game while listening to an audiobook of 1984 for high school. One thing I love is that the pistons are, imo, way better. They extend up to eight blocks, and grip up to eight blocks. Piaton doors are so much easier than Minecraft
Honestly i find Survival craft like the weird limbo in between the harsh world of vintage story and the more casual like gameplay of minecraft its such a good and unique game hidden behind the name of a minecraft clone
i would spend hours downloading maps on this game. specifically the ones where they used the electriciry systen to make giant LED signs. idk why i loved them so much lmao
Survivalcraft was made by a singe developer, Kaalus. His son only did one feature and I doubt he "helped" more just added it, this whole game was made by one person.
The reason I preferred this game to Minecraft on my iPad many years ago was because in this game you could download other people’s worlds, in Minecraft PE you couldn’t. I wanted to play stuff like skyblock and narrative maps and there was a crazy impressive collaboratively built city. There was no multiplayer but people would download the world, build something, and then reupload it as a new version the next person would download. There were literally roleplay servers with factions you could join and people would have conversations with each other by placing signs and then reuploading the world, which is just amazing ingenuity. Keep in mind, this is all organized and accomplished by children, pre-teens at most. I can remember plenty of specific maps I had lots of fun exploring, and while I never uploaded anything myself, the fact that thousands of children who only had IPads to play games on brute forced multiplayer Minecraft into existence is so cool.
I was pretty excited to find this game still available after all these years while looking up the wiki and info for this vid, happy to see people playing it.
I never forgot about it. I remember playing it on my old tablet. Yeah, it was very similar to Minecraft, but it was also very different in its own way and remember loving it.
no no no, only 1 person worked on this game while the other 2 were the devs sons who tested the game and made the most popular furniture pack in the game with 1.34 million downloads
I only play cruel mode on this game its a different experience when u play only cruel compared if u play survival because u have no respawn and only one life just like real life it makes u much more attached to the game and the way u value certain things in the game
I remember building a giant (for me) castle that took 4 days or more to make. The wolfes were really scary. And i couldnt survive at night, barely actually haha
The video is very informative and inspiring. Survivalcraft is my childhood and also the motivation for me to create this youtube channel. I hope to see Kaluus (the developer) again soon in version 2.4 since it's been 2 years since the last update 😣😣😣
I’ve been playing this game on and off for years. It’s way different than Minecraft in that it is very realistic. You feel like you are out in nature surviving. You have hunger and real predators hunting you and you hunting f prey. I would call this a nature immersion craft world.
Something that really amazed me back in the day when the old Minecraft pocket edition was around was that for mcpe in order to use custom skins, texture packs and maps you had to jailbreak your phone and modify the game files (on android it was easier, though), but in survivalcraft it was already a game feature, you could download community content, and you didn't even have to do it from internet sites, you could do it JUST IN THE GAME, I actually remember playing this game more often than Minecraft simply because mcpe was really limited and had a lot of missing features from the original version, and Survivalcraft didn't have any, I would only play Mcpe for the online play, since I only had the full game on console and servers weren't a thing.
me and my friends grew up on minecraft pe, but we also played survival craft a lot too and we loved going on all the parkour maps people made or the zoos that people made i loved the zoos omg and i remember we were so scared of the wear wolves at night
I used to remember back in 2015 my family was poor because Minecraft in the Philippines was like 500 something survivalcraft was THE GAME that cures your lil brain in 2015
Played this gem on my phone,it was ahead of its time and better than Minecraft Pocket edition...it had a clear sneak mechanic, you could hide in the grass ...that was so amaizng
I remeber following that damn ship that appears when you spawn in creative mode for what felt like several hours (probably just a few minutes) a lot of times just to see where it was going, and thats how i found out that this game had killer whales/orcas (i found one suffocating in an island along the ship's path, thats also how i found that the ship had no collision with anything💀). Yep, thats what i did for most of my time in this game, besides trapping a bunch of water creatures in a small pool, just to try blowing them up (i actually tried blowing up a lot of suff in this game for absolutely no reason)
Some china developers grab original source code and made their own game fork. On this fork you can run some mods and, also, play multiplayer with different people.
I love this game sm ,I just wish there was more building blocks and other small items to make it more immersive in creative mode ,I’ve been building my own world in creative and items to go along with it :D
I remember I was an annoying little Survivalcraft elitist back in the day lol. All my friends played Minecraft, and I thought I was the cool kid because I played this instead.
i first played Survivalcraft during release 1.24 i remember getting excited when they added skins in 1.25 then clothes in 1.26 and then more clothes in 1.27 when they redid the engine themselves for more freedom
bro i have played this game when i was younger SO much i wish that i found my favorite map again, the one with the city and the elevator and the working cinema.
This game is one of my favourites ever, honestly. It is THE most well-designed survival game I have ever played, with Project Zomboid in a close second, though I feel as if SC2 does difficulty a little better than Zomboid. I could go on and on about how amazing this game is but, I would rather have people play the game for themselves and try to figure it out. I definitely feel like cruel is the definitive way to play, as the stakes are raised so much higher and just makes the game more fun overall.
I guess they could more focus on "survival" in this game rather than technical stuffs such as electronic gadgets. They could've added a portal where we can goto Jurassic world and survive there, or portal to a fantasy world where we have to survive with various types of "monsters" & mythical creatures. Those worlds will have their own 'laws' of how we have to adopt there. I'd definitely love that if there were something like this.
as for me, who has recently bought it (finnaly, after years) for my pc, i keep wanting more exploration for the oceans. well, yeah, it does have content in the ocean, but i wish there were special loot only found there, and you had to either go scuba diving or build a small submarine that you could use to explore arround. the same goes for the air, imagine how cool would that be, able to fly around in some sort of gliding gear? maybe have a small motor, a plane. but if there are more updates, i reallly would love more biomes and more consistent fauna. more hostile mobs as well. also more food options and more ways to store and conserve them. imagine if you could only find certain animals in certain biomes? youd had to go exploring, it woudl be an obligation! anyway, i dont think there'll be more updates...😊
@@zeynaviegas you can try a game called block story It had everything i ever wished for in survival craft, except i like the graphics of survival craft much more and survival craft has much more real life animals. But in block story there are underwater worlds, you can make submarine to explore~ there are various bosses both in the overworld and underwater. There are even underworld & sky world as well, you can even go to another world if you manage to make a rocket & evey world has their own set of enemies, bosses, loots and environment :) there are many many things to explore there! I wish all these were available in survival craft as well. Also you character has a lvling system. If i remember correctly max lvl last time i played was 200 and each time you lvl up you can upgrade your character and learn new skills. You can even have pets (dragons, spider etc) to ride/fly.
How people could forget first Minetest and secondly this one these games are really amazing also there mods in it made by the community which is even better.
Bruh this game made my childhood, couldn't get Minecraft cause i was a broke ass kid, so i opted for an alternative game with the name 'craft' in it, then i stumbled upon this gem. 😊❤
I was a professional of this game, I'm still love sc2 but I play them downloaded from website when I was cant pay it but now I need to pay. I able to play again
I wouldn't call it a minecraft rip off, it's much different and released at the same time. Oh and there's tons of features that survivalcraft came out with far before minecraft did.
i remember this game so weirdly cuz it was so cool to me that it had more stuff than minecraft, but i was also overwhelmed and just couldnt make anything out seeing as i was a child :D. its a weird memory, faint but still powerful if that makes sense?
you didn't mention the best feature of Survivalcraft 2 that you can split screen in it on a mobile or pc having different controller or keyboards or touchscreens it works best with a tab because you have like 1 whole phone screen when the tab's screen divide into two you can play upto 4 players in one device, and it has a big modding community it has gun mod which has very good animations and details, the bullets shells fall on the floor, it holds the gun like irl and reloads it too like irl
Bro i play survivalcraft before pirating minecraft survivalcraft Has Campfires horses donkeys camels before minecraft has and survivalcraft has electronics and furniture
Well, there are some things that Survivalcraft has before Minecraft: campfire, crossbows, vertical signs or Wooden Sign hanging from the ceiling and signs changing the color of the text, camels and horse, Saddle, copper ore, target, motion detector (Sculk Sensor in Minecraft), magnet (Lodestone in Minecraft), spear (a hand-held weapon that can be thrown like a trident in Minecraft), Whistle (Hand-held item that blows to make a sound similar to the Goat Horn in Minecraft), extended terrain height and generation, and even a secondary stone layer underground (think deepslate, but in this case it's basalt) and there are some other things I sometimes can't remember.

I PLAYED THIS YEARS AGO IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOREVER OH MY GOD
Honestly i find Survival craft like the weird limbo in between the harsh world of vintage story and the more casual like gameplay of minecraft
its such a good and unique game hidden behind the name of a minecraft clone
Ngl this feels like the spiritual predecessor to TerraFirmaCraft and Better Than Wolves
That'd be Vintage Story, a dev from TFC even developed it
i would spend hours downloading maps on this game. specifically the ones where they used the electriciry systen to make giant LED signs. idk why i loved them so much lmao
something about the lights in this game were so fun
Awesome video :D this just made me buy and install the game on the windows store it’s really cool to play this mobile game from my childhood on my pc
I literally still have this game. I played it yesterday
Honestly, it's too hard to play survival, ironically. Like... You'll die before you find coal
I only play cruel mode on this game its a different experience when u play only cruel compared if u play survival because u have no respawn and only one life just like real life it makes u much more attached to the game and the way u value certain things in the game
Survivalcraft is an independent game from minecraft and not a minecraft rip off because it was realesed before minecrafts official release
so does that mean Minecraft is a ripoff? Possibly not.
i was playing minecraft when we didnt even have beds, there was minecraft before the official release
Bro This Game Was GOATED
Survivalcraft is so underrated, i religiously played it back when i was a kid before i bought Minecraft on the Xbox
I always wanted to catch ship, once idid
I love this game, I still play it to this day
This game is awesome still and I remember playing this a ton on my phone back in the day!
There are many MANY things that came to minecraft years after survivalcraft already had.
Yes, it's a little sus if you ask me of Mojang.
I really really hope the developers don’t abandon my favourite child hood survival game 😢
No wooden weapons anymore
The starting tool is stone axe and it's flexible
I remember building a giant (for me) castle that took 4 days or more to make. The wolfes were really scary. And i couldnt survive at night, barely actually haha
And i loved to make mob battles 😂😂😂😂
The video is very informative and inspiring. Survivalcraft is my childhood and also the motivation for me to create this youtube channel. I hope to see Kaluus (the developer) again soon in version 2.4 since it's been 2 years since the last update 😣😣😣
Hello boy?
I remember this in Beta, best inspired Block Game.
I remember that this Minecraft alternative was used to be talked about the most from my friends back when Minecraft had simple features.
I remember playing the free version of this
Survivalcraft is definetly more difficult than Minecraft. First day and you would have hard time finding food without getting bullied by Wolves
Survivalcraft 2 is awesome. It's a game of its own, not just another voxel game.
This guy might just be the jshlatt of survivalcraft, just like how he revived minecraft with the "tribute to minecraft" video.
I’ve been playing this game on and off for years. It’s way different than Minecraft in that it is very realistic. You feel like you are out in nature surviving. You have hunger and real predators hunting you and you hunting f prey. I would call this a nature immersion craft world.
I agree with that summarization. Everything about the game is semi-realistic.
Disappears for 2 years no words release an update gigachad lol
I played this since 2017 great game and I miss it. Good video!!
this game had beautiful builds
True
me and my friends grew up on minecraft pe, but we also played survival craft a lot too and we loved going on all the parkour maps people made or the zoos that people made i loved the zoos
omg and i remember we were so scared of the wear wolves at night
i think the devs got motivated it realeased 2.4 update
I used to remember back in 2015 my family was poor because Minecraft in the Philippines was like 500 something survivalcraft was THE GAME that cures your lil brain in 2015
I am sad that how this game died
Almost no video related to survivalcraft gets enough attention
I remember playing the mobile version on my moms kindle back in the early 2010s because I couldn’t afford Minecraft full version.
I loved the game, played it several years ago, man i loved it❤
Finally a documentary about this game.
One time i found my old tablet and i found the game i got addicted to it very fast
There was too much nostalgia in my tablet
Played this gem on my phone,it was ahead of its time and better than Minecraft Pocket edition...it had a clear sneak mechanic, you could hide in the grass ...that was so amaizng
Survivalcraft came out before the official Minecraft pocket edition so it's not a clone
You need to do a lets play whit this game
I remeber following that damn ship that appears when you spawn in creative mode for what felt like several hours (probably just a few minutes) a lot of times just to see where it was going, and thats how i found out that this game had killer whales/orcas (i found one suffocating in an island along the ship's path, thats also how i found that the ship had no collision with anything💀). Yep, thats what i did for most of my time in this game, besides trapping a bunch of water creatures in a small pool, just to try blowing them up (i actually tried blowing up a lot of suff in this game for absolutely no reason)
Game was made by one person
It's always impressive to me when a game in every aspect is designed by a single individual. I didn't know it was just one person, that's amazing.
SurvivalCraft is kinda more realistic than Minecraft due to the reality vibe, I like all the elements, esp. the sound when the texts appear
I've played this game and personally like it as well. It's on PC too!
Survivalcraft is back again :D
The only things I think it really needs is a sound redesign and cross platform multiplayer
I never liked minecraft...but this one and Vintage history are real good survival games.
I remember I was an annoying little Survivalcraft elitist back in the day lol. All my friends played Minecraft, and I thought I was the cool kid because I played this instead.
Best minecraft spin of :)
i first played Survivalcraft during release 1.24 i remember getting excited when they added skins in 1.25 then clothes in 1.26 and then more clothes in 1.27 when they redid the engine themselves for more freedom
bro i have played this game when i was younger SO much
i wish that i found my favorite map again, the one with the city and the elevator and the working cinema.
also blockcraft 3d is nostalgic to me too, very good ost
i wish my survivalcraft worlds weren't deleted, so nostalgic, i made a tall elevator but it's gone now
you can even make a seperate video explaining the superior explosion mechanics compared to minecraft
I used to love playing this game on my kindle fire
i never forgot survival craft :)
I still play this game but i wish it had multiplayer😢
Hey, the game was updated recently :))
they recently added seasons to the game
This game is one of my favourites ever, honestly. It is THE most well-designed survival game I have ever played, with Project Zomboid in a close second, though I feel as if SC2 does difficulty a little better than Zomboid. I could go on and on about how amazing this game is but, I would rather have people play the game for themselves and try to figure it out. I definitely feel like cruel is the definitive way to play, as the stakes are raised so much higher and just makes the game more fun overall.
It is getting updated with seasons
@@zeynaviegas you can try a game called block story
It had everything i ever wished for in survival craft, except i like the graphics of survival craft much more and survival craft has much more real life animals.
Imagine a big anarchy server in survival craft..dream.
Memory unlocked.
notch even acknowledge this game
But I hope they are working for a hudge update
Yeah, sure wouldn't mind if Kaalus didn't take these years long breaks
The most alternative game against minecraft and most of the rip-offs
How people could forget first Minetest and secondly this one these games are really amazing also there mods in it made by the community which is even better.
They need to add the whole continent
Bruh this game made my childhood, couldn't get Minecraft cause i was a broke ass kid, so i opted for an alternative game with the name 'craft' in it, then i stumbled upon this gem. 😊❤
Of course this game its an absolute original
It was my childhood
I was a professional of this game, I'm still love sc2 but I play them downloaded from website when I was cant pay it but now I need to pay. I able to play again
I wouldn't call it a minecraft rip off, it's much different and released at the same time. Oh and there's tons of features that survivalcraft came out with far before minecraft did.
Legends remember block story
I was actually seriously considering doing another vid like this on Block Story, I have a lot of memories with that one as well.
6:01 the world named "furry rp new" is crazy bro
Lol
I wish they’d add multiplayer without split screen!
Nowadays if this game could get regular updates in my opinion it could surpass Minecraft based on the current direction it’s taking
i remember playing this game when i got tired of mcpe
i remember this game so weirdly cuz it was so cool to me that it had more stuff than minecraft, but i was also overwhelmed and just couldnt make anything out seeing as i was a child :D. its a weird memory, faint but still powerful if that makes sense?
I still couldn't play this properly, I got the mobile version where you got to play 15 minutes at a time on each world you create
you didn't mention the best feature of Survivalcraft 2
that you can split screen in it on a mobile or pc having different controller or keyboards or touchscreens
it works best with a tab because you have like 1 whole phone screen when the tab's screen divide into two
you can play upto 4 players in one device, and it has a big modding community
it has gun mod which has very good animations and details, the bullets shells fall on the floor, it holds the gun like irl and reloads it too like irl
They dropped a new big update a month ago
Bro i play survivalcraft before pirating minecraft survivalcraft
Has Campfires horses donkeys camels before minecraft has and survivalcraft has electronics and furniture
