Hey! Awesome tutorial. Quick question though, can this be done with any topographic map or does it have to be done through Worldpainter? For example if I had a map of Ecuador I wanted to convert into a landscape in Magicavoxel could it be done?
yes, as long as you are able to save it as a heightmap (grayscale) and convert it to a png-24 file. I just used worldpainter if you wanted custom maps. TerrainParty should work as well. Goodluck!

update - I just had a friend completing XS height command and send the file back to me- when I open it on Mac the file is 12M but empty lol the struggle is real on OS devices.
I get the following error on the terminal: ==== GL:Shader ==== ERROR: 0:39: 'f' : syntax error: syntax error [Error] failed to compile shader : .../MagicaVoxel-0.99.6.2-macos-10.15/shader/height.txt
Can this work with any terrain mapper? I tried using Atlas which creates a heightMap automatically from Google maps. It imports fine into MagicaVoxel, I placed the "height.txt" file into the shaders folder, ran the command "xs height" but nothing happened.
are you using windows as your operating system? Several people have told me that the shaders and its functions do not work on mac os. Make sure you are on the greyscale pallet (2) for the height command to work, if that doesn't work, you could try to send me the png file of the heightmap and I'll take a further look.
@@ArtChanny97 Yeah Im on a mac thats probably why. The mandelbulb doesnt work anymore either since I saved over my installed version. Might be an idea to compare the two scripts to see what the difference between the two would be, might offer some insight.
i got few problems if someone can help even when i convert to png is upload in magica as a 1 voxel :) its macos maybe that ? thw png do look like yours black and white .png but still a 1 voxel size
Found a solution after saving png high res in world painter , open the file photoshop and safe as png24 as you make in another vid when you slice in 4 works on macOS

for mac OS users, saw ephtracy twitter and you just have to change 0.5f to 0.5 for the shader to work :)

xs height does NOT work for new version of MagicaVoxel anymore. Could you be kind to fix that for newer version of MagicaVoxel?

yes, in the render settings you'll see a "sparse" button toggled on for faster rending, turn this off so that the circle isn't filled.
