    The first time I went to Dublin it was pretty obvious that I was part of tourist group (just imagine a gang of 25 teenagers wielding camping style backpacks covered it Canadian flag pins).
    We arrived the day before Saint Patricks day, It was about 10 am when our bus dropped us off on a side alleyway off O'Connell Street. We were walking down O'Connell when we say these two older men (probably about 60 ish years old) sitting on the side of the road, ironically drunk off their ass. We were just passing them when one of the men started to maniacally laugh, then scream, "Ooh tourists are we?! Better be careful! Lot's a' SEX and COCAIN in Ireland!!!"
    That said man then proceeded to pass out face first on the concrete, while his equally as smashed friend starting howling at our shocked expressions. Easily the weirdest interaction I've ever had with a stranger, but one of the funniest memories I have of Ireland :')

And one thing you DON'T do in Ireland is say 'no' to a cup of tea, when visiting someone. Even if it means sitting down to a plate of buns, cake and scones as well.

    You are correct about corned beef and cabbage not being Irish but ye should have told people that Irish people eat BACON AND CABBAGE! That would be BOILED fat bacon now,not the thin slices you'd have in a fry which are called " rashers". You'd see the big hunks hung up in butchers here all over but I've never seen it in England. Also, you'd have WHITE pudding as well as black in an Irish fry. You can only buy it in a few shops in England that sell Irish foods and it's a shame because it's so much nicer than black pudding! No gristly bits and a bit of a spicey flavour-I love it!!

      People in the US, at least white people generally identify themselves by some ethnicity other than American when they are asked. A vast majority of people from the states that travel to Ireland do so because they identify themselves as Irish. So since you want our money- I guess Ireland will have to put up with our foibles.

    • @emeraldcountess8471
      @emeraldcountess8471 7 лет назад

      J Whiskey Considering your money is so weak next to the euro and the jobs american companies provide are low paid and extremely unstable, we would rather not put up with your foibles but our mothers raised us to be polite.. And take every penny off of American tourists! I have some Irish glass if you want to buy. It's a window from my house but it's 100% Irish glass. Yours for €1000 or $2000 (higher of because of exchange rate) You pay for the shipping but I have to say it's a higher price because of needing a new window.... I mean tax!

Be extremely excited about hurling because the all Ireland championship final takes place in September and remember you can't be neutral always pick a team. Say " this is great craic" instead of " I'm having fun" and never ever ever say something nice about England and their royal family.

      definitely visit a lot of different counties. Try Irish sweets (candy) they're lovely. Say "this is great craic" "craic" is pronounced crack. It also annoys people when you mention the Queen or England, or compare Ireland to England or your own home. You should definitely go into town in Dublin and go to lots of shops, e.g: Dunnes Stores. Visit the River Liffey and go to a pub and get drunk. You should definitely visit Tayto Park, it's a whole theme park dedicated to our crisps, Tayto crisps. You should also visit Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo. Hope this helps, Ireland is a lovely place.

      I'm guessing by "here" you mean Ireland...the reason you may have never heard of it is because it's not Irish, it's Irish American. Pork was cheap in Ireland but when the Irish got to America it was expensive. The Irish in New York City were introduced to corned beef in the Jewish delis. Brisket used to be a cheap cut of beef which is why it's prepared as corned beef, pastrami, BBQ brisket, etc. These cooking processes turn a tough piece of meat into something delicious. The reason corned beef is cooked with cabbage is because cabbage was less expensive than potatoes plus the salty meat would add flavor to the cabbage when boiled together. It was cheap and easy to cook so it became a common meal in the Irish American community.

      You do- the reason they sound like they are saying "island" is because they have English accents and the English accent is non-rhotic i.e. they don't sound the R unless it's at the beginning of a word. I have an English accent too but my parents were Irish and I have lived in Ireland for 10 years now so I hope my pronunciation is better.I used to give out stink ( severely reprimand) to other English kids who called it " island" when I was a kid

    Number 11: if you’re coming to Belfast I would recommend learning a few basic phrases in irish. For example, ‘Tiocfaidh ar la’, pronounced chuk-hee ar law, which translates to ‘hi, I hope you have a great day’. Another common phrase would be ‘up the ra’ which means thank you. So if you get lost you can go up to the Garda (police) and say ‘tiocfaidh ar la, how do I get to this place , up the ra!’ Have fun on your travels to Ireland! :)

    I went 3 times in Ireland. I'm french and people were convinced I am when I spoke.😁. You may be ok with french tourists cause the only ones of us who go in Ireland are contemplative and festive ecologists 🤣🤣. Most seriously, i would say life is good in Ireland when youre a frenchy on hollyday: bus, youth hostel, pubs, people, bandb, accent that I understand more than english one, coleslaw👍, meet beef 🥩 ( steacks that no one want to buy except french and italians😄), bycicles, your serenity and awareness, security (where are the cops ?... I didn't see any violence so...), and a collective care about nature. So thank you Ireland. Keep that precious spirit. See you one day again bro's.

    • @barklordofthesith2997
      @barklordofthesith2997 4 года назад

      @@sirwatermelon6944 Yes, it's a traditional Irish-American dish for St. Patricks day. Apparently most Irish beef was exported & expensive in Ireland back in the day (Bacon & cabbage would be more common in Ireland) but was inexpensive in the USA, so, Irish immigrants would eat it as they viewed it as a luxury food. Unfortunately, public schools in the USA are terrible about teaching modern history & most have zero idea that this isn't an actual thing from Ireland.
