Ill never forget when this album dropped….highly anticipated. I couldnt wait to go pick it up. I remember listening to Heated Heavy thinkin DAAAAAMMN…talk about setting the tone. All of the debut solos were special moments for me…but this album is still so fresh in my mind
Thug mentality is one of my top 5 albums, the fact that he wrote over 150 songs for it or something like that. You just don’t see dedication to music like that anymore!
Relay was a group on Krayzie’s label “Thugline Records” which has now been renamed The Life Entertainment”…Relay only had one song on the album. Not sure if they had anything away from this album or what happened to them…never heard from them after this album. Bam was also on Thugline Records but he actually stayed on the label for a little bit and showed up on Krayzie’s second solo
The thing about music and the culture when this dropped is that there was this sense of value to showcase that your musical character wasn't make believe. There was a sense of pride that the person you claim to be is indeed who you are as a person. That's why this entire album is themed around that. It's his way of demonstrating that he is the real deal of raw gritty untouchable street person that happens to rap. The song titles and the lyrics are all predicated on that showcase so the listener can connect to it at that level. This is why Bone has this crazy following, because they were the epitome of that dynamic of being real street people that rapped, and they had the receipts of that lifestyle on so many levels
The song Heated Heavy is based on a true story when Krayzie Bone was in a shootout on his tour bus. He pulled an AK47 out from under his seat and started shooting back from the tour bus.
FINALLY more Bone!!! Let's get it!!! And wow it's Thug Mentality on top of it????? You better pay attention to this one because most of the lyrics might go way past your head.
I think Krayzie was living in Miami at the time he recorded this. And some of it may have been recorded in FL. Thats wild that you said it sounds like FL sound.
@@popz4470 True. Had forgotten about that. For sure he was living in Miami when he was working on the first couple of Mo Thug projects. He shared some wild stories with the Mo Thug peoples.
As I had said before, one of the downsides for most people about this album was the features…theres a ton. A handful of them are Bone-affiliated artists that were on thier record labels (Mo Thug Records & Thugline Records) …then there is a handful of legends featured on the album like Snoop Dog, Kurupt, Treach (of Naughty By Nature), Bone Thugs, 8Ball & MJG, E40, Mariah Carey, Fat Joe, Big Pun and Gansta Boo (of Three-6-Mafia)….but since its a double album theres still plenty of Krayzie Bone. If you took all the features away you still have a pretty long solo album
Your track at the ends not bad…is that you rappin? Nice…I thought it was gonna be that new generation garbage but it sounds like some old school rap. Not bad…I mean that. Cant think of who you remind me of but its clean… Edit: now that I listen again it reminds me a little of Biggie on Suicidal Thoughts…you have a laid back flow
Yeah that was me, I really appreciate that. I actually been trying to make music that would appeal to the younger gen, but it just didn’t sound right😂.
Krayzie Bone's music is beyond Rap....
Thug mentality is #1 for me

I know every word of both discs on this album. I actually find it easier to get their lyrics than slower rappers.😊
Krayzie Bone's Thug Mentality Album is the best Bone Solo Project.
39:02 these were his signed artists from his label at the time Thug Line Records
35:09 this more New Orleans bounce type of a flow. Juvenile used this type of flow back in the 90's
10:30 You Are My Everything by Surface
The song paper contains samples from surface's song "You are my everything". Hope it helps bro...
