      Thanks Jordan, I think Plum Island is to MA what Antelope Island is to UT - that great place you keep going back to!

    I love Hellcat--was just there two weeks ago and saw my very first Bittern!

      That’s great - was it a Least Bittern or an American Bittern? I’ve seen both at Hellcat over the years.

    I heard about that sora when I went earlier this month but it never came out of the reeds. I saw a lot of shorebirds and lots of egrets, but my ID skills on shorebirds is terrible. Nice to see your footage. The bald eagle was actually very nice footage. Thanks as always!

      Thank you, Frances. My shorebird skills could be better also as I mistook a Dunlin for a Stilt Sandpiper in this video!

    I think of Short billed dowitchers in salt water areas, and Long billed in fresh water mostly.

      @@douglaswetzel3221 Yes, and the Plum Island pools are a mixture of salt water and fresh water so pretty much anything can show up.

    Nice captures! I think I crossed paths with you on the Hellcat Dike last week. :) Might your Stilt Sandpiper be a Dunlin, with those darker legs?

      You are right, the black legs means that must be a Dunlin, good catch. I think I was fooled by the way it was stretching its neck up in the photo. Shorebirds are tough!

    Your "Stilt Sandpiper" is a NB plumage Dunlin

      Thanks, that was noticed by another viewer as well. I have added a correction in the video description.

    Very nice video! Lovely shore birds. Jv eagles are always great to see. Are you videoing with your camera? What set up are you using, if you don’t mind me asking. The photos and filming is amazing. Thanks for sharing for the YT birding community.

      @@verthosand Thanks for the kind words! I use a Canon R7 mirrorless camera and 100-500mm zoom lens. The R7 has good 4k video capability.

    Hi, good morning from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. How are the Double-Crested Cormorants different from other cormorants, like Neotropic Cormorants and other subspecies of cormorants ….. ?

    • @JT_Birder
      @JT_Birder  Месяц назад

      Double crested cormorants are slightly larger than Neotropic cormorants, we don’t get those in Massachusetts.

      @@JT_Birder Did you take Ornithology there? That was a great class. Exams were identifying flat skins, which I'm sure is much easier than spotting and naming them in the field.

      @@ju5hodanUnfortunately not! I was an engineer and birds weren’t on my radar back then.
