My hydraulics guit working on the 8N. Figured out what was wrong and ordered parts. Pretty simple and cheap repair. Upgraded the hydraulic piston to the new style.
Got an old 8n that runs absolutely great, just have to replace several seals and also figure out the 3 point leaking down. I’ve come to the conclusion that I really need to buy another 8n to have one running while fixing the other. Jubilees are running about the same price in my area, so thinking I’ll get one
Man I bet that spring will hold your draft just right!! That's wild they don't make it anymore, but thankfully you found a good used one!! I am really enjoying the 8N repairs and upgrades Mr Robert 😁😁👍👍
Thank you Nelson. This old tractor has come a long way since I got it over a year ago. This tractor hadn't run in 10 years when I got it and it wouldn't start. My Dad was with me when I went to get it. He wasn't able to do anything here on the farm and he wanted so much to help me. I will always have his memory with me. The drawbar control spring really made a difference. I can now set implements at the height I need. I have enjoyed doing these upgrades and hope it inspires others and maybe helps them. I have been truly blessed by the knowledge others have shared with me. I love that I can share my progress here with others. Thank you Nelson.

Seems to be working. Still need to check the see if the drawbar control spring helped. It was getting dark and really didn't feel like trying to attach an implement. I remember watching your repair video.
The lever from the top cover to the pump accuating valve in the pump is to be straight. Not curved.There are some adjustments of the springs on the top cover. The little red lever just ahead of the three point lever switches between draft control and position control.
I'm almost surprised the spring is no longer available.. seems like it's easier to find the older parts. Finding parts for the early '80s tractors is about impossible... Unless you can find used ..
Yeah there is a company here in today that makes automotive springs. Been here for as long as I can remember. My Grandma worked there till she retired. You would think a spring would be easy to find. Those eighty model tractors are very popular.

Making a desperate search for an answer in the comments here. I have a 2N, slightly different pump. Had a very weak lift when I bought it. Goes up and down fine, but if there's an implement on back, it can't lift it. Rebuilt the pump this winter, brand new cam, cam blocks, pistons, valves, relief valve, and control valve, same problem. Found a very slight leak from the piston a few days ago. Put in a brand new piston and cylinder, the new style, STILL WILL NOT LIFT. I do not see any visible leaks anywhere, does anyone have any ideas? Control spring is adjusted per the book, no luck
Man that is pretty frustrating after spending all the time replacing parts. Only thing I can think of maybe some trash blocking a line. Steiner tractor has some pretty good videos on diagnosing hydraulic problems.
@Rdrake1413 at this point, every piece has been disassembled and cleaned, so I hope that isn't the case, don't want the newly rebuilt pump ruined. Any experience replacing the tube that goes from the pump base to the top lid if that ends up being the culprit?
@Rdrake1413 already tried that, it blew fluid out of the pump just fine. Just got in a 1/8NPT pressure gauge, made an adapter by drilling and tapping a bolt to screw into the pump base plate. Going to try getting a pressure reading tomorrow if those threads hold

If its leaking down it's most likely the seal on the piston.I really like the 8N, just wish I didn't have to run the PTO for the 3 point to work.

Had issues on my Ford 4000 had to pull that cover plate it was tricky but the repair was a success. I hope you were happy with your repair as well🙂

@HedgehogOutdoors No sorry I have never done that. Might try blowing air through it to see if it is plugged.
