This was such a cool breakdown, I noticed a lot of stuff I hadn't before! I do wonder if that shot of Sirena looking scared is Sarah betraying her and taking her to her death....😭
25:00 lol Man, this deep dive analysis WOW. So many details you picked up! And I love the color symbolism you bring to this cause you RIGHT THO. Also THE THEORIES YES I'm Filipino and the English translation intrigues me because "Sa karagatan, ihatid mo ako" means in, literal translation, "TO the ocean, you will take me". I wonder if the Studio made that intentional. 41:06 This is Bakunawa! The moon eating serpent of Philippine mythology. The Bakunawa is believed to be the cause of eclipses.
25:00 look I've seen too many edgy "one kisses with eyes closed the other with eyes open" art Thank youuu!! Also thanks for the info about Bakunawa, that's really cool. Moon eating serpent, huh... Does this mean Sirena and Sara are a sun/moon ship, with Sara as the sun and Sirena as the moon... I don't know too much about the myth, but thank you so so much for sharing I'm going to stare at Google and over-speculate about the potential myth vs movie parallels
Gods, what a beautiful essay. You caught so so many amazing details and characters depth. I'm only halfway the video yet I learned so much. I love how you talk about the light, colours, movements. Simply amazing! Thank you for making it
I watched the whole thing and what an incredible essay! Enjoyed every second. I think what's interesting about this 32:42 shot is that if I remember correctly, Sirena's spines (those things frilled up on her back) and nails are venomous. Specifically psychedelic venom. So I think the reason that shot looks the way it does, is because Sirena may have stung Sara while she was cutting her open, causing her to hallucinate. I don't usually comment and this comment is probably very long but I am sooo normal about my interests (I'm not) (It's the autism for me too)
Thank you!!! I didn't know that tidbit but if so, that would be incredible... It makes sense!! It could also be another layer to that entire sequence, where Sara with her head in her hands is actually her having a last minute revelation/panic attack while she hallucinates and tries to convince herself that she needed to do it, but at the end she's hallucinating the (now dead) Sirena staring at her and can't meet her (dead) eyes? The autism gets all of us sometimes😔 Don't worry being normal about interests is just The Intended Experience surely.
wait a moment.. the meal she is perping at the start.. i thought that was a tail.. no.. its one of the mermaids earfin. things.
I swear knowing what Sara is making at the start is the key to this entire film. mystery sushi

@@bat1570 Yup, I did!!! This was an extremely well done breaking down of the trailer, I'm in awe
It's cool how you addressed the color symbolism and mental aspects. Thanks.
