- Jehovah’s Witnesses are notorious for shying away from appearing in mainstream media or giving interviews. And the few times that they do is to defend themselves against their handling of CSA or to address attacks on their members as we have seen with the Kingdom Hall blast in India last year. However, when faced with an opportunity to talk about their faith and doctrines on a mainstream platform they shy away from it. Moreover, there is an irony in their refusal.

I have thought the very thing you made mention of, WT high ups would do the natural thing of using a platform when it is offered. They don’t appear on tv but start their own broadcast with cartoons, dramas and demonstrations. *_/baffled/_*

Love Africa, miss it a lot, lived there 6 times. In East Africa. And i was there during the 1998 ‘International assembly’ was on in Nairobi. A bunch came up from South Africa for the week. From Johannesburg - West Rand i think, maybe East Rand. The Boltman family who were on the quick build team or whatever it was called.
They had a friend staying from Kissimmee, Florida who went up to the assembly also. She was already arrived in ‘Gartang Paradise’ - no idea how they met.
I was out by 1999/ 2000 thank goodness, cult free, but been back loads of times in Africa running about, typically via Paris or Amsterdam more so laterally.
The amount of Chinese people i see each time is staggering. I thought they were making a movie, i was looking behind me for a camera.

It is an additional layer of control that they could do without. - Africa in general - and it really grinds my gears that that so-called governing body of WT never visited over by. It has offended me, all that cash they have been disposed to and they play house in the West.
I have imported cars to Africa, and Watchtower’s leaders of truth and encouragement cannot get on a plane and head for a hotel.!? Aye right.
That's one of the reasons why they always address accusations in their studio so they don't have to take hard questions.
We can see how Geoffrey Jackson handled himself at the Australian Royal Commission but imagine how Steven Lett would handle himself if he was going to defend his comments regarding CSA as "Ball Face Lies" or the illustration "Just because one is charged and sentenced for a crime, doesn't mean it happened. Look at Jesus, he was charged and sentenced but he never committed a crime" 🤦♂️
I would love to see the day when the GB are asked to speak directly to the media about the negative press, but that's wishful thinking.

Any Christian leader and most Christians with a limited knowledge of the Scriptures will defend their faith.
The Watchtower has been taught a few Scriptures to defend their believes and has little knowledge of the rest of the Bible.

I‘ve seen this all too often. You would just have had to take the former JW out of the panel - you‘ve written the book about cults - don’t you have sufficient expertise to state your case against JWs labeling them as a cult?
Nope, because in interviews where there wasn't an "apostate", they have been direct about only wanting questions from the script.
That's the entire witness life. "Everything makes sense as long as you stay on this script and don't ever question it".
The most ironic thing is that they expect any convert from another faith to critically look at their own faith for falsehood, and yet that mindset is labeled as apostacy soon as you get baptized, and direct it at the jws.
They love to make their cake and eat it too. They love sowing doubt in every other faith, while shutting down any unscripted discussion in their own.
This is why they are labeled a cult, and will continue to be until they pop the metal bubble they imprisoned their followers in.

JWs do not need to debate the truth. If the listener is interested and has God's spirit he will understand what is being said without debating over it. The scriptures say Jesus Christ true followers will know the truth and it will set them free. The other issue is that God's angels are directing the work and us humans do not need to debate with anyone. And finally debating is designed to make one or the other look bad as a way of discrediting the person. (Matthew 7:6) “Do not give what is holy to dogs nor throw your pearls before swine, so that they may never trample them under their feet and turn around and rip you open.
