Louis was incarcerated in the Los Angeles County Jail while his wife Lupe was sick. Lupe lost her primary caretaker and was given the burden of trying to come up with $100k bail. The Bail Project was able to bail Louis out, but by that time he had contracted a staph infection in jail that has delayed the kidney transplant even further.
