It’s definitely not out of the picture. Even though it’s a mini-series, there’s still a possibility for a sequel season. A lot of limited shows return for a second season. Being the most watched Apple TV plus original is the definite indication. But then Sharp Objects and The Act never got a season 2. Dead to Me, Big Little Lies, and End of the F****** World got second seasons while Green Eggs & Ham is getting another season.

      @01726450886 4 года назад +64

@@MaríaRobalino-R No I think Derek did it. The main reason is because if Jacob did kill Ben then either he is too stupid or too professional. First of all he left his fingerprints, then admitted to the cops that he touched him! No murderer is this stupid that they would murder someone and then admit that they were in the place of murder and touched the body. Not to mention his father being a lawyer Jacob would be smart enough to know not to leave his fingerprints on the body. On the other hand if Derek did this that means he planned the murder. Which is why there was no fingerprint. Also Derek had clear motive to kill Ben to help the girl with the cellphone and the nudes (I forget her name) . Jacob on the hand didn't have any clear motivation other than vague bullying story.
Second of all Jacob didn't try to run or hide. Again being a son an attorney this doesn't make any sense. He didn't even try to hide anything and casually went to school. Derek on the other hand constantly tried to hide his involvement. He pressured the girl not to say anything and he was completely freaked out. Also why would he turn on his friend like that?! They were best friends since they were kids. The only explanation can be that He was trying frame Jacob and put the suspicion away from him. He knew Jacob would be easy to target considering the story. He was the first to turn on Jacob which is very odd for a supposed best friend.
Third of all why on earth would Jacob keep the murder weapon?! Again this doesn't make any sense. Considering again his father being a lawyear he would know not to make a mistake like that. Also why wasn't his fingerprint not found in the supposed murder weapon?! However if Derek did it that would make sense because he would't leave the murder weapon on him or fingerprints.
Fourth of all the story itself doesn't add up. The Job story describe Ben being stabbed from the front, in his chest (See first episode) however the forensic lady said there was no blood found on Jacob's body. The only way that can happen if Jacob stabbed him from the back! however that contradicts his story. If Jacob did stab Ben from the front he would have blood stains, he didn't have any. Also the story describes Ben twisting Jacob's arm. However in the first episode Jacob showed no signs of being hurt.
I'm sure there is more reasons however I think the murderer was Derek, He hated Ben and wanted to help the girl he liked. Pressured her not to say anything, tried to frame jacob despite being his friend all points to him being the killer.

    It was Derek and Sarah
1.) Patz had a photo of Derek walking behind him and sarah walking next to him in the woods of the park the morning he was killed because he has on the exact same outfit and he deletes the photos because he knows he cant come forward with this because no one would believe him
2.) Sarah knew Derek like her and would do anything to make this situation right for her but she didn't think it would go that far and shes scared of Derek because she saw him murder Ben which is why she befriends Jacob and Talks to Andy about the investigation because she is trying to steer it towards the actual killer Derek
3.) Sarah also knows the Jacob was Derek's scapegoat, Derek knew he could setup Jacob because of all the weird stuff he was into and he was more of an outcast and bullied more and he knew he took the route through the park like they do to get to school
3.) Derek has more motives than Jacob , he was jealous of Ben relationship with Sarah, Ben also bullied him on accusations, and he was blackmailing the girl he liked and wanted to be her savior
4.) The of the incriminating evidence and knowledge of Jacob came from Derek yoos interviews to misdirect them from him to Jacob, hes the one that says he did online to put the thoughts into his peers head, he tells them about the knife which if Jacob can perchance one and Show Derek he then can go out and get the same exact one which is was he also knew the exact knife brand, he pushed the narrative that Jacob being different and into weird shit means he a murderer
    5. On the morning of the murder that is key to Derek guilt is the fact that out of all the mornings of them say hi when they walk in why is it that Derek asked him with he saw as soon as he greets him. They haven't found the body yet and on the morning of his murder you ask Jacob what he saw because Derek knows he takes the same route and is probably hoping he did cross paths with the body because that is his scapegoat. But why ask out of all the mornings why ask what did you before you even greet someone unless you know there was something to
And that's really the big unanswered question for me like I thought it was super weird and after finishing it and see all the rest of things that one question just didnt feel right to me.... like who go good morning, what did you see coming to school today.....I would have been what was I supposed to see...but that part is also the most important part to setting him up tho because if he took a different way he would have saw and checked him so derek wanted to make sure he did go his normal route what he saw isn't really his concern but Jacob did see Ben and Checked his pulse and was shell shocked until his body was discovered by someone else, this was also another lucky break for Derek because now theres a finger print left behind by his scapegoat
Also I should not I dont think Sarah knew what Derek was planning but once she understands that when she becomes more involved in Jacob's life being there for him and telling him about the blackmailing situation I just think no one understood how she was trying to direct it towards Derek and I think she didnt text him back in the end when that Job story came because she probably thought he was crazy like Derek and she already got that psycho out of her life

So…where was the dna evidence linking Derek to anything?
The real question is how could Jacob know to write “stop you’re hurting Me” without anyone telling him that was said…and it so happens that one of the witnesses actually said he heard that…no way Jacob knew that if he didn’t see it himself. And when that came up in trial they made it seem like Ben said it.. it I knew immediately Jacob was the one who said it..and then later it came out that he confessed that he said it

      @iainfleming2853 4 месяца назад +3

@@SundayVibesmusic Isn’t it strange that the woman who found bens body says he was face down and she turned him over presuming he was just injured or passed out. When she does turn him over she realises he had been attacked and killed which causes her to flee the scene quickly and report it to police right away. When Jakob describes finding ben he doesn’t say specifically that he turned ben over but he does say that he saw the blood and that his eyes were open. So this confirms Jakob saw the body in a face up position. Similarly to the woman Jakob says he initially tried to help, indicating he didn’t immediately suspect he was dead. [This is also used to conveniently explain Jakobs fingerprints being found on bens clothing].Judging by the timeline Jakob was already at school when the woman discovered bens body. We know this because the school was immediately put into lockdown and we see Jakob there with his classmates. So if both Jakob and the woman found bens body, Jakob must’ve found it first. Whether or not Jakob manoeuvred the body, we do know he saw him in a face up position. This means Jakob would’ve had to turn bens body into a face down position in order to line up with the woman’s story of finding ben face down. The woman and Jakob cannot both be telling the truth because their stories clash. If Jakob was telling the truth bens body would’ve surely been in a face up position when the woman found it.

They used a very common strategy. Usually, when a series is based on the book and the ending is not completely accurate, it could mean that the following season will be based on a different book, and so they change the ending so they can adapt it to the other book. Although judging by the ambiguous ending, I think that they will make another season depending on rating and success. Which means they have both options. Base season 2 on another book or leave the ambiguous ending.

  • @dfa3366

I read the book and the ending from this series of course they want another season. Because it's different from the book. This ending is an opening for a potential season 2. I'm convinced as why they did a different ending. Chris Evans is an executive producer so he would have to for a second season. Obviously there is no book to work on but yeah that’s why they didn’t follow the book ending.

My thoughts: Jacob killed Ben. Everyone in the Barber family lied at some point. Lori believed that Jacob did it, which is why she tossed his baby album in the trash, she decided that she was going to kill. Andy knew that she was going to do something impulsive and destructive, which is why he called multiple times. She also remembers what she did, she’s simply lying like everyone in the family. She most likely has the “murder gene” and passed it on to Jacob, which would help explain her actions. Andy knows that Jacob and Lori are murders, he’s just in denial. His dad was a monster, so he chooses to see the best in everyone, obviously, he doesn’t want to be associated with or be like his father. Everyone in his family is a killer. At the end, he’s left in the dark, because he’s alone, he’s the only one that’s not a killer.
I don’t think Lyrnard (I don’t know the spelling) not using Apple products was indicative of him being the murder, but rather, he’s just another villain. He didn’t kill Ben, but he is a pedophile that stalked Ben.

I personally think that both Derek and Jacob killed Ben. I think that Derek wanted to kill Ben because of what happened to Sarah, but he didn’t want to do it himself/he was too scared. So, he might’ve brought this up to Jacob or even asked Jacob to kill him. I think that Jacob was willing to kill Ben for Derek because he was his friend, and Ben was bullying him so he wouldn’t mind killing him. I think Derek was going to try to frame Jacob because he knew all about his suspicious behavior and the knife. I think that Derek played smart, and knew how to frame Jacob for killing Ben.
Or it could be vise versa. Jacob could’ve wanted to kill Ben, and asked Derek to do it because he had a clear motive. If this is the case, this could’ve explained Jacob being in a good mood at school the day of the murder, and Derek trying to ignore him. Jacob could’ve been happy because Ben was finally gone and he didn’t have to deal with the bullying anymore, and Derek could’ve been trying to ignore Jacob because he felt guilty for killing Ben. Also this could’ve explained how the thumbprint on Bens jacket matches Jacobs. He could’ve walked by where Ben was murdered on the way to school to make sure that Derek did it. He could’ve saw the body, and tried to turn it over to see if he was dead. This theory matches Jacobs story the best because if Derek killed Ben and Jacob found the body, his story about finding it, flipping him over, and freaking out would technically be true.
(I know this is far fetched, but this is just my opinion and just a theory)

So I don't doubt she tried killing him in the end. She threw the photo album prolly signifying that she can never see Jacob the same way anymore. She attempted to kill him but also kill herself because she still is his mother and she does still love Jacs. It's like the "I'll kill you then kill myself" type

The Hope subplot and suspicion didn't make any sense. The whole basis for suspicion was Jacob was the last person to see her. How exactly is this possible? They were at a party. Was there no one else there?
The 'reveal' was that Hope met some guy at the party and went off with him. This means that Jacob was telling the truth about the argument and leaving the party, so unless there was only 2 other people at this party, the abductor and the witness who identifies Jacob as the last guy to be seen with Hope, how did nobody notice they left separately?
Did they arrive at 20.00, have an argument at 20.05, Jacob leaves and then within seconds, the abductor charms her and they leave at 20.10? It just doesn't add up. If Jacob was there long enough to be identified as the last person to be seen with her, then surely the same witness/es would have noticed he left before she did and she was then hanging out with another guy.
Most hotels have electronic passkeys/cards to enter their rooms. These flag up on the system, meaning within 5 minutes, the cops would know exactly what time Jacob arrived back in the hotel room after he left the party and easily corroborated his story via hotel CCTV.
What exactly were they asking him about in the interview that went on for 3 hours? They should have at least made it somewhat ambiguous by having him come back from the party at the expected time and the story goes that Hope went off in another direction (say her room was on the other side of the complex) and she ran into the abductor who was also at the party and stalking her.

Imagine you’re Hope’s parents. Your kid does not come home, so you call the police. The police ask who is the last person that definitely saw her, who is your answer? The boy she left with. It was only the next morning, so they definitely hadn’t already spoken to the party goers, the first person to talk to is whoever definitely saw her last, and that is Jacob.

    • @TheAmateurEditor
      @TheAmateurEditor 4 года назад

@@colinmurphy2214 Not quite. As a cop who has dealt with my fair share of missing persons enquiries, I can tell you that we never focus on one single person.
First of all, the cops would be speaking to Jacob as a witness, not a suspect. They have absolutely no reason to think he has had anything to do with her disappearance. True Hope's mother knew about the trial and would no doubt tell them that, but they still wouldn't have any reason to think of him as anything other than a witness at this point.
With this in mind they would obviously ask him about what time they left the complex, what route they took to the beach party, what time they arrived there and who else he saw there (if it was an event organised by a local business they would have staff, a bar, security, if it was just something guests at the hotel organised at the last minute, they would ask him who he met there, what their names were, what they wore etc so that the hotel could check their own CCTV and ID people and look at their key-card activity).
As soon as they got all this information, the cops would have the hotel staff check the CCTV to see when they left, if anyone was walking close by (further witness possibilities) and check their system for his key card to see when he used it to enter his room and confirm this through CCTV to see it was actually him and not his parents, or someone else, just to cross him off the list.
This would give them a timeline to work with: what time they left and what time Jacob came back.
Given how this is a really up-scale 5 star resort (what with the yoga classes in massive courtyards, sea-side pools and restaurants) I can guarantee you they have pristine CCTV covering every square inch of the lobby, front entrance, elevators and would see Jacob on there returning to his room well before midnight and that he was alone.
As soon as they realised he was telling the truth about his whereabouts, they would then realise that there are potentially 5 or more hours during which Hope was unaccounted for and during which anything could have happened to her. They would need to act fast, not waste 3 hours interrogating him.
They would be straight onto the staff to call all the guests down to the lobby and make the announcement and ask for witnesses to identify themselves and come forward with any sightings of Hope that can add to the timeline, which in missing persons enquiries is one of the most important aspects and needs to be nailed down as quickly and accurately as possible.
Basically, the show made it out that the Police suspected Jacob, interrogated him vigorously, suspected him enough to have him surrender his passport and ask him to stay on the complex and didn't carry out ANY further enquiries as to witnesses at this party and had it not been for the abductor's friend who freaked out and Hope never returned, Jacob would continue to be the prime suspect.
They would not do this when he can provide evidence that shows him leaving with her and returning so quickly as the time in which he could have conceivably hurt/killed her and hid her body would be too narrow.

Well to me it was more like Laurie was acting like she lost her memory and the way the show ended was like all of us can come up with a different ending for Barbers. What if Laurie tries to kill Jacob again? What if someone that we never saw in the show was involved in Ben's murder? another thing is that when police found Jacob and he told her that he only found Ben's body, his face and everything was like when he came back to the hotel when Laurie and Andy found him watching TV. The same voice, look, felt like the other scene with the police officer and it felt like he was fabricating a story. Of course Hope was found alive but since it was a TV show based on a novel not a real life story I'm 70% sure Jacob killed Ben.

I think Laurie killed Ben (she jogs early morning) and indeed Jacob saw him lying dead. I think Laurie got traumatized by how Jacob acted when he was young when he almost hit another kid with a bowling ball. That never left her mind and has found out unconsciously that Jacob has been bullying her son and ended him (unconsciously). I believe she has multiple personalities.

also i don’t think they will continue the show. it was made to be ambiguous. the show ends with the viewer still not 100% sure if it was or wasn’t jacob, but that was purposeful so the viewer can come to their own conclusion. personally i’m leaning to jacob being the killer. i attribute his ability to not accidentally admit it at any point in the show(not counting when he says he did it to stop his mom from crashing) to his already cold personality. it also mentioned that he picked up his deceiving traits from Andy being an attorney. but there were some times where he all but hinted at doing it: his obsession with the possibility of him having the murder gene was particularly of worry to me, bc if he didn’t do it, then he shouldn’t have been worried ab having it. also the calm that came over him the night of his birthday when he was in the car and mentioned that he was “ready for monday.” i think that he had accepted that the trial could either go two ways and would be relieved with either. all of the evidence was stacked against him and he surely would have received a guilty verdict if other ppl hadn’t lied for him.

Personally, I liked the series very much. Specially Chirs Evans and Michelle Dockery's performances. Never the less, I think that legal accuracy was missing. This is definitely not how they would've handled a case like this in real life. When Patz died they didn't even make a further investigation for the convenience of the case. And if they would have, they would've found physical assault or at least DNA. And then Loris trial was all based on speculation which makes me, at least, lose all credibility.

@@JKennyPro You'd be surprised at how an investigation takes place. You see, when there's a sudden death involving a suspect on a crime like this, considering the convenience of the death, there would've been a full-body investigation on the person. This means they would've noticed how the rope was manually forced on him because of the damage done on the neck. When you hang yourself the damage will be different and easily identified. The damage will be measured based on the person's weight and the type of knot done. So when they'd notice how it wasn't suicided the investigation would've been re-opened. I know this is way too detailed and it's just a series so it doesn't really matter but it's just how it would've happened in real life.

Absolutely brilliant performances by the three leads, in particular Michelle Dockery. Her anguish felt very real and that next to end scene in the finally with the car crash chilled me to the core. I believe Jacob did murder Ben. I believe he is also a would be serial killer. The pain porn obsessive viewing plus the “story” he wrote about how he killed him were big tell tale signs to me. Yes he was bullied. But he’s also a killer deep down inside. And it’s only a matter of time before he kills again. His grandfather of course is also a murderer. And his Mom became an attempted murderer with that car crash. All around, it was a fascinating, dark portrait of a seemingly ideal family’s unraveling and ultimate murderous disintegration into madness. To bad his mom didn’t take him out...

These are my 2 crazy theories
1-first theory, the mother is pretending to have lost memories of the accident and is trying to protect herself, and that Jacob did really kill Ben, and that the 'murder gene' was actually something he inherited from his mother, as the doctor said it was transferred from the mother's genes to the kid. The mother knews she had it in her so she wasn't able to live with the guilt of having brought her son to the world and decided to take both their lives
2- second theory, is that Jacob is innocent, the real killer is Ben's father, as Ben found out that he was having an affair with 'laura's best friend' (the one that abonned her), because we seen the father having a lot of weird emotional looks and sensation at trail and went crazy when Jacob was about to come clean. Also the last seen of the show showing Andy (knowing what his wife has done and lying about it and hiding it) was exactly like the one of Ben's father, to show that these two went through the same thing (lies, guilt..)

I felt it would not be bad to continue the story beyond the book and explore the themes of the series more. Like how the public opinion could destroy a family especialy if they explore more the day of the crime. Also Lorie and Jacob's story when he was growing up. Especialy the 2 characters are now in a state where old memories could resurface and mess with the existing facts we have seen so far. Andy's story could explore more about his relationship with his father. The detective and the 2 lawers, Ben's parents side of the story. There are a lot we can still unpack here.
All in all the ending was beautiful and open ended. If they can get the actors again especialy the 3 main characters, it could turn out as good as S1.

I read the book and was blown away by how concise and carefully plotted the story was. When I saw that the miniseries was 8 episodes, I worried that they added too much fluff to pad out the runtime.
But after finishing the show, I can’t help but feel that the changes and additions they made drastically improved an already excellent story. It’s rare in Hollywood, but it happens. The performances were outstanding, and the casting of JK Simmons was brilliant!
The only thing that I’m still not sure about is not giving us a definitive answer about the fate of Jacob. In the book, he dies, but they just leave him in a coma for the series. I feel like that’s a little too open-ended. It does work a little towards Laurie’s guilt about him waking up and telling what happened in that car, but seeing as we’re probably not getting a season 2 (nor should we) I kinda feel like it’s unfair to leave that open if it’s not going to get explored

Here’s my take; jacob was the murderer of ben and hope (from the book)
Laurie tried to kill herself with Jacob
They should’ve followed the ending from the book (it’s more conclusive that points to Jacob as the murderer)
And we don’t need a second season

Okay ... i hate endings like this.. i need answers !! What i can say , is the only sane person in the show is Jacobs Father. I honestly believe jacob did kill ben. 1st of all the scene of jacob as a child trying to throw the bowling ball on the kids head. Second of all the examination / test results of jacob by the psychologist. Jacobs cold attitude which makes me feel he could be a sociopath. Because he hardly shows any emotion , no remorse or guilt. He posts a picture of himself and calling himself a killer as a joke . ( if ur a suspect you dont joke like that ) ... and jacobs finger prints on bens tshirt ...Also another thing which noone has mentioned in the comments above was when he found out about sarahs nude pictures he called her whore and cut her out of his life. Which does point out that he has inner anger issues. He also had an argument with hope .. and says he didnt like the party... sounds like jacob might be the jealous type around girls. Also WHY DID JACOB LEAVE HIS WHITE TOP AT THE BEACH ? What was the reason behind that? Only makes me think that jacob was involved with whatever happened to hope, but because she was drugged she cannot remember exactly what happened .... The only thing that makes me doubt if jacob is really the killer is - 1. The pedophile man rapist forget his name had loads of pictures of ben , he didnt look sane at all and he deleted all his pictures from his phone after his bens death. 2- Derek was too involved in proving jacob was the bad guy, he also did mention to sarah " what did you tell the investigators?" And bens phone was with him that was handed to the police later on. That does make me question The rapist and Derek... so whats ur thoughts?

I don’t think second season is needed unless the writers can create an incredible story…but I think it will to tough to create another story with this family. If their son wakes up from his coma and another person dies who knows him, he will become the suspect and his parents no longer believe him so the family is truly broken.

I’m genuinely not getting how people think he’s innocent.
Like, “oh it was just ____” over and over, the results his doctor gave him. His story kept changing (wet leaves, dry ones, standing, sitting, crouching, etc.) plus idk, the look on his face when the knife came out. Idk...
Plus, yeah, he wrote the story days after the murder & days after info came out. But, first of all, why? And why in THAT detail? Like, why not him (or his characters) in space, or actual school after closing, etc. Second, why do y’all think fucking DEREK did it? First, he had an alibi (yeah his mom, but we don’t know if neighbors saw them leave, if other kids/parents saw him being dropped off (and stay) etc.) second, why do y’all think the fact he knew about the website proves something? Jacob could’ve easily shown him the website & Jacob could’ve even told him about the post/what he was posting (plus, even if Jacob didn’t tell him about the post, Derek may have known about his account/posting history, so maybe he wanted to check. I mean, I do check my friends (art/writing) accounts. Granted, none are graphic like his, but still) & if Derek was doing anything dodgy, or at least super into it, Jacob didn’t say a thing ever? Not even when Derek did?
Third, Y’all are saying “he’s either the dumbest criminal or a professional, I mean the amount he confessed-“ and? He’s fucking 14-15, of course he’s a dumbass, just because he’s capable of murder, doesn’t mean he’s smart. Plus, he could’ve been trying to redirect? Like, give just enough, so if anything came out it wouldn’t be “SHOCKER SHOCKER!!!” Like someone seeing him near there (and an explanation for the print), but not enough (well, in his 14 year old opinion) to convict him. Like yeah, getting scared is dumb, but valid, etc.
Fourth, he was so calm after seeing it. Even making a joke. Yeah, he didn’t want his friend to know, but to stay so calm, even happy maybe? How do you know he can’t put his acting skills into other areas? Acting sad/upset when people suspected, convincing his parents, etc. plus, of course he’d be scared & happy (when he got let go) even if he did do it, prison was probably a terrifying idea.
Anyway, I think he did it & y’all are mad at his mom, but... It was live her life knowing (but not knowing) her son did THAT and is capable of doing it again and her husband will never truly see his guilt the way she does or die. And know she doesn’t have to live with that over her head, and her son can never hurt anyone again. Yeah, it wasn’t right(horrible really), but people calling her the same as Jacob... Really...
Also, idk, I just found it weird how he got rid of the knife & the way he did it. First, as someone who works in that environment, you should KNOW that it was dumb to toss it, even if your kid wasn’t an option. Better to be safe than sorry, right? Second, “you know your son” like bro, if you did, why didn’t you get the knife tested to get hard proof? And other stuff I can remember. But if you really were the best, and you had faith, no, absolute certainty, your son didn’t do it. What’s the harm in testing it to see if it matched?

Gilbert M to the point where there is absolutely no DNA evidence anywhere? Not on the body (except for ONE finger print that matches Jacob’s story of finding him), not on Jacob, not anywhere? You can clean blood but you can’t clean DNA and leave everything as is. Also, if there was blood and you cleaned it, there’s still ways of finding there was blood. The only actual evidence linking Jacob to the crime scene was that ONE finger print.

Nahh. i think the theory that laurie killed ben is impossible. The only thing laurie is guilty for is that she tried to cause an accident that kills both her and jacob bcs she felt really guilty after seeing Ben's mother mourning.
Even before she knew that Patz is murdered so that Jacob is freed, Laurie already knew by heart that Jacob is the murderer.
She's relieved that her confident accusation on jacob is wrong at first when patz 'confessed' to the murder.
She thinks she's safe from her intuition that totally rejects jacob as innocent. (she was confident that jacob is guilty but she refuses to believe her strong intuition)
So after patz confession, she's happy that her intuition is wrong after all.
But then again, after Hope went missing, then andy finally tell her the truth about Patz actually got murdered by his father's old friend which happened to be a gangster, laurie felt cheated. That her intuition is right after all these time. She got cheated by her huge hope that jacob is innocent. You know what i mean?
And then suddenly Hope is still alive. Which proves jacob didn't do any crime this time.
But laurie doesn't know what to believe anymore. i bet at this point, she's back at her situation like when before 'Patz's confession'.
She claimed she wanted to know the truth from Jacob but deep down she already know it bcs she's his mother and her strong mother intuition strongly believes that jacob is guilty.
But even if jacob is really guilty she didn't know what's the right thing to do.
Maybe on the night that laurie saw Ben's mother crying with her hand bleeding and wounded from the glass, laurie actually trying to confront her bcs she felt unfair to them.
Then again, she couldn't. She has no guts.
She has nowhere else to go and talk about her feelings about it (bcs her best friend ditch her, and she didn't trust andy anymore bcs even after they promised to not keep secret from each other, andy still conceal the truth about patz got murdered) so she decides to confront jacob and make him confess. She would want at least jacob confess the murder himself to her rather than letting her own intuition makes the judgement.
But even after jacob confessed (whether he actually telling the truth or he just wants laurie to stop the car), laurie already made up her mind to cause the fatal accident bcs she's mentally distraught and blame herself for letting Jacob got away with the murder case.
And lastly when she's in hospital and almost getting accused of trying to kill her own son (which she really intended to), she's relieved that there's no indictment. In my interpretation, Laurie finally knew what it's like to be accused of guilty and would do anything including lying just so that she's not convicted and punished.
And now, jacob and her is even.
Jacob is responsible for making her life a mess, and Laurie is guilty for trying to get both themselves killed in a car crash.
So i guess Laurie can make peace with her own guilt bcs of jacob since she wouldn't want to end up in jail too. She's not really up for ben's justice , she just doesn't want to feel guilty anymore.
And now the guilt and dilemmas is left to Andy's shoulder. Andy, as from the beginning will do anything to cover up for his family, would never rat his own son and wife. If there's no season 2 for this show, I'll interpret that Andy will carry the burden and guilt for the rest of his life. Might as well live in fear that jacob will do it again like when he was in fear and devastated that he's really confident that jacob is behind the incident where Hope went missing.
In conclusion, this family is fucked up.
      Hence, thanks for reading.

Honestly I loved the show! However on the last episode this is my theory I feel the mum was beyond breaking point and she obviously crashed the car on purpose due to the fact she was so torn and distraught by thinking her son did this. But truly I think the mom didn’t think they would of both survived the crash but when she realised she and her son were still alive she had then panicked and made up a cover story to tell her husband that it was an ‘accident’ so she would not be charged for trying to murder her son. Plus it kinda makes sense why she crashed the car because she had nothing to loose as she was already at breaking point thinking her son had killed Ben. Plus she probably did mean to kill her son due to the fact jacobs photo album was in the rubbish. But yeh I think the mum thought they would of both died from the crash but her plan had backfired so she made a cover story to save her self from attempted murder.

    1. The story that he wrote about ben’s death scene wasn’t just a story !! It’s impossible to describe the events as perfect as that story !!! He described everything completely literal and the grandfather knew that cuz he had the same feeling when he killed that girl
    2. As the Jacob’s psychologist said Jacob is unbelievably clever so he could pretend everything easily !
    3. His eyes !!! In the last episode Laurie came back home after running and she stared in his eyes and Jacob was studying with his teacher but something made him to look at his mother and i’m pretty sure that his face had a deep meaning

Way too many holes with this show. After 8 hours, you could've just watched the trailer and you'd be left with the same questions.
Jacob having issues with kids fighting at a young age would've continued growing up and he would've turned out more like Matt and Ben, not such a quiet wuss. If he were bullied as a child, that would be more believable.
The real murder weapon is lying in the leaves early in the show, yet it's never found. So why show it?
Was this Ben's normal route to school? How long did they estimate he was dead for? Not explained. Normally when kids walk to school, they will encounter other kids, so Jacob killing Ben at that spot would've been idiotic. Jacob was depicted as an idiot though.
The court never discussed how he may have killed him aside from the prosecutor's opening statement of "stabbed 3 times" which didn't say anything. There was also something mentioned about him being stabbed in the back. Again, lots of holes with that theory. Ben would've heard footsteps and turned around to face the killer.
Neither Derek or Sarah killed Ben. Sarah is a puny little girl and there's no mention of her walking that route to school. Ditto with Derek. Sarah has no motive as she could've simply deleted her text to Ben when Derek gave her the chance stealing his phone. Derek could've done the same.
If someone was in the wood's and heard someone yelling"...you're hurting me" they would've walked over to see what's going on. Nobody questioned where this person was or why they didn't do anything.
Photos of Ben are on Leonard's phone. It's never explained how he got them or what the context was. This was a problem throughout the show. This cliff hanger in one of the episodes was leading us to believe they may have known each other. If not, how would a grown man (Leonard) know who Ben is? Matt never explains further how Leonard had his "eyes on Ben".
The parents never question him or push Jacob on the torture p---. Andy just gives his son dramatic stares. Really?
Matt leaves town and it's never explained why? My guess is that he didn't want his tough guy act tarnished for being paid to get touched by Leonard.
Why is Andy calling Laurie frantically for throwing out Jacob's baby album? Again the context is never explained.
Now for the terrible ending. If Jacob wakes up, he is going to tell his Dad that his mom tried to kill him. Good luck with that Andy.
The real story of the show is how in denial parents are over their children. No matter what is thrown at Andy and Laurie, they say what parent's normally say "my kid would never do that". Andy immediately throws a knife out because he knows being a prosecutor that would be used against him and deep down he doesn't want to believe his son would be capable of what his father did. He also pushes other suspects on Duffy to exonerate his son. Andy ignores the psychiatrists report showing Jacob is disturbed saying "it's nothing". Then you have his Mom remember young Jacob picking up a bowling ball and appeared to be in the act of dropping it on another kid, but she still though nothing of it until he was on trial for murder.
Derek brings up a good point and challenges Andy saying you don't know your son which is the truth for 99.9% of parents. For example, you'd see Jacob's real personality as soon as he felt he had privacy when his parents had the door closed to his room. They also had no idea he was into "cutter p---".

P16 SHO she has motive, Ben and her have bad blood and bad history. She doesn’t seem like a murderer tho, so here’s my theory. She (in a moment of anger) kills Ben. She feels guilty tho (rightfully so) when the crime is pinned on Jacob, which is why she spends so much time talking to him. It’s her way of easing her conscience. There’s not too much evidence supporting this theory, but if Sarah was looked into more closely, I feel like her guilt would be proven and evidence would come forward.
