Hey Mercedes, It's been three races since we are lacking pace behind those Bulls, As a die hard Mercedes and Lewis fan, I'm utterly disappointed and can't deal this anymore!! Please do work on the issues and bring back the dominating form ASAP 💪.... Much love and cheers from India🇮🇳
We are working very hard Vishnu, as we always do. Don't lose faith. We know what we are capable of and the level we can perform at. We're determined to fight back, we hope you feel the determination we have, too!
I am a data analyst myself and can image how much it helps decision making on and off the tracks. A die hard fan of F1 and Mercedes...Would be dream come true to work for the best team ever ❤
Loved the explanations. Gave a proper look into the wind tunnel and how the team utilizes it for developing the car and the upgrades. Really unfortunate that there are so many limitations. One can only imagine how much more the car can evolve with unrestricted use of the wind tunnel. That said, Mercedes is great at adapting, and they will surely adapt to this and keep the charge going!!
Thanks for the Explanation. These videos are the only reason why I love Mercedes . That's why being a 13 year old, I know so much about F1 just because of you guys. Lots of love and respect to Toto James Valletri and Hamilton.
I'm curious, since the FIA aren't with you at your factory, how do they enforce that you adhere to the rules of how and when to run the wind tunnel simulations?
The FIA can access the data logged in Wind tunnels and even remote camera access. Some teams share wind tunnels, some have their own fully to themselves.
Next video: We'll now show you our secret facility with our other wind tunnel where we perform unlimited tests on a full scale model with wind speeds over 300km/h.
Do you usually find much difference between computer simulation and wind tunnel tests? I imagine the software does the bulk of the heavy lifting and the practical tests are more for fine tuning?
As I understand it, the wind tunnel tests help with correlation-seeing how the computer simulations compare to, and where they differ from, the 60% scale model. That then allows them to tweak the parameters in the software model, and arrive at strong confidence in the predictive power of their model, which they can then use each race weekend in scenario planning and to inform strategy calls.
Thanks, well done again. You show again how FIA rules are not in the real/future age, like those crazy people said wind tunnel is “useless”, till NS equations system is not solved, Windtunnel must have free to ride in full scale and speed. I’m very worried of what can happen next year if you cannot run to full speed, luckily you have the safest car on the grid!
In the video you said FIA are doing these restraints on wind tunnels to reduce costs ! But i think they are trying to cripple the front row teams so the rest can catch them.
Mercedes F1 satu2nya perusahaan yg mau share ilmu tentang F1, dimana kita semua tau, itu rahasia dan mahal 😁, g pelit ilmu, jadinya bermanfaat buat orang awam yg g faham tentang apa itu F1
Great video covering the Wind tunnel! If there was anything I would say needed "help" is that the lady doing the voice over might have been in a little too "wet" sounding of a room so that echo was really messy behind her. I look forward to more videos like these in the future!
Wonderful, loved every second! If I had to only pick one question it wold be; Given that cars can reach speeds up to over 300 Km/h and you are only limited to simulate wind speeds up to 180, how do you compensate the remaining % ?
Are you limited to what temperature you can run in the wind tunnel? For instance do you need to cool the air down to make the flow denser since the model is only 60%? or at slower top speed?
2:05 this part of the video literally just answered my big question for years. I thought they use the same size as the actual car, and if it's the same size as the actual car then i wouldn't be able to imagine how big the fan is.
Are teams allowed to use their wind tunnels whenever they want? I know there is a limit of how much time permited, but I would like to know if there is a specific period of the season for them to use it.
Think these new rules look to punish the best teams for winning. Have to start calling it the Formula 1 Handicap Championship. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos :)
So a big question then, if teams are constrained on how much time they can use the wind tunnel... and processing data from wind tunnel runs etc is quite a specialised role... what do those staff do when they aren't "allowed" to be working on the car in the tunnel.
I always wonder, can you simulate/test corners within a windtunnel? I read once, that the tilt of the front wheels due to steering drastically changes the airflow.
Yes, the Wind tunnel rolling road is also a turntable, to be able to angle the car to flow simulating taking a corner. The models can also fully pitch and roll and the suspension can be loaded to simulate individual forces and tyre squish per corner.
Can someone explain how anyone would know if you test more then your suppose to? I feel like if any team has their own wind tunnel they will be taking advantage of it. Unless there is some kind of official that has to be there but even then if they are not there, they could still run it and he/she would never know.
Did someone say data driven F1 livery performance in a wind tunnel? Data driven analytics, both on the track and in the wind tunnel, are great tools for predictive and prescriptive performance increases. Did you also know, machine learning model airflow simulation can further help increase predictive accuracy of testing for future added aerodynamic performance on the race track.
Nice video. Now you see the huddles the aerodinamisis at Mercedes have to jump through in 2023. It will be a huge task to get a good working model with so many restrictions😢
can ask something? so there are 2 type of wind tunnels, the one that suck air from behind and blow from the front? because at first i think it blow wind from front and then i watch Slow-Mo guys, they show that wind tunnels works by sucking air from behind. and now on this vid they told wind tunnels are blowing wind. kinda confused, is it depend on the usage function?
The Wind tunnel rolling road is also a turntable, to be able to angle the car to flow simulating taking a corner. The models can also fully pitch and roll and the suspension can be loaded to simulate individual forces and tyre squish per corner.
Not sure if I'm feeling the strict regulation changes meant to bring the pack closer together. Doesn't that defeat the spirit of F-1? {[60% car size, less testing time for leading times] --> that will only become stronger in 2022} Racing's been great last and this year.
If the Bernoulli principal allows you to create more downforce without adding a lot of drag why don't you add that to the top of the car? Instead of side skirts that turn up why not have a second skirt above that is in the shape of a long upside down airplane wing this would not be under the car so it technically wouldn't break the rules right?
The script and voice sounds more like an anger towards the FIA for not allowing to use the wind tunnel without limitations, rather than describing what you can accomplish in the wind tunnel and how wind tunnel is improving the car!
Thorough explanation on Aerodynamics and budget constraints.

How does the FIA police use of the wind tunnel? I had long been assumed that team share facilities or that sort of thing

Nice explanation. Although last part is Mercedes complaining about FIAs restrictions!
Finally! A team who talks about Wind Tunnel
Why do I feel they are giving an indirect explanation for the loss in performance in the recent races 🧐🧐
Are teams allowed to use their wind tunnels whenever they want? I know there is a limit of how much time permited, but I would like to know if there is a specific period of the season for them to use it.

The fact that FIA had to do all this too Mercedes shows how dominante they are jesus. And Cowards at the same time. Man I hate FIA.
We love you lewis we do
Small correction unless your wind tunnel is different. Wind tunnels suck air through the chamber, they don’t blow air.
Merc struggle on the Aero perfomance while RB are more stronger in that department. Merc need to up there game
So a big question then, if teams are constrained on how much time they can use the wind tunnel... and processing data from wind tunnel runs etc is quite a specialised role... what do those staff do when they aren't "allowed" to be working on the car in the tunnel.
so there's no restriction on dropping cars off the side of a cliff at 200mph?

The FIA have full access to the wind tunnel datalogging and remote camera access in the tunnel.
What does an undercut mean please
Undercut means pitting before your rival in an attempt to gain advantage with fresh tyres, to move ahead when your rival stops
@@MercedesAMGF1 Have you learned it last weekend? Hope for the comeback though 👍🏻
@@MercedesAMGF1 That blistering out lap that Maxie boy drove to catch these boys by surprise is a text book example of an undercut. Beautiful stuff👌👌

What about cornering wind?
Does the difference too small between straight line to actually implement it or is it just impossible to simulate?

How can the FIA control how many times you run the tests in your own wind tunnel???

I get the limited wind tunnel time for fairness, but limiting the speed of the testing to what the cars actually do is a massive safety issue
I don't understand why the FIA is punishing teams for being good you already have the budget cap so why limit the wind tunnel usage
