That hook hanger thing would be great for a travel bag that folds up for jewelry or toiletries. I have always wanted to make one of those to hang on the back of the bathroom door when on vacation
You're an inspiration Christine and your level of productivity is impressive. Genius fabric matching and style of bags, thank you for your time and expertise and for sharing this with us
What can I say but you are a wonder and so lucky to get all that free fabric. Your brain must be constantly thinking of items and projects to make. Love your videos.
Our In Stitches group have been given 25 upholstery swatch books recently and I have processed them with the help of my hubby for the difficult ones. I’ve made up a few bags already. Another member is making the plush type fabrics into simple bean bag toys. Love your channel.
You are so lucky to have those donated fabrics , which you put to such amazing use. Well done on the recycling and creating such practical bags etc. I always love watching your videos.
Love your Videos ! I make bags out of old Boy Scout Uniforms . Lots of pockets ! Really like the bags you make and your fabrics ! Your Jack sewing machine is very cool ! I try to recycle as much as I can . Thank you for the wonderful ideas !
LOVE LOVE making bags. You have kept me inspired with your recycle/reuse ideas. I make a lot of my bags from my families old jeans. So much fun re-using material. I also, shop in thrift stores and find a lot of fabric there. Love your work space hope someday mine will be as useful as yours.
Awesome! I would love to see the crossbody bag tutorial! I have just gotten into sewing in the past month (read: I just learned how to use a sewing machine in the past month) and I have a bunch of your videos on repeat because both 1) I love watching you make things and share your knowledge and 2) I find your tutorials very relaxing. :D
Hi Christine, I've used free sample swatch books before, fabulous material. Yes, there's work involved and yes, I've used the iron to release the card. I've used the material for jewellery bags, my material was lighter weight than yours, and peg bags. The hangers can be used for peg bags as well.
Kathy, free fabric is available to us all. Seek and you shall find 😁 I've been very fortunate with my fabric scores, and the companies that give it to me know that I'm trying to save the universe in my own small way. They also know that I will never charge the customer for the fabric I get for free. The price I put on my bags is mostly labour rate 😊
Always love seeing what you make with your swatches. What a great haul this time and all that denim!!! Can't remember - have you ever made aprons to sell? A selling point for you - your swatch bags are unique; no 2 bags alike! I never make 2 the same, even when using the same fabric. Hope you had a good weekend with lots of new visitors coming back to your area. I keep meaning to make myself a new crossbody bag - I'll wait to see what ideas you come up with 😁
Yes, please for a tutorial on the cross body bag. Love the new fabric. With the denim fabric I kept thinking about capri's or a dress. Also you could make handles out of the denim fabric. A few ideas about using the fabric is tablet cover bag or book covers and coasters.
I got some drapery fabric samples last Monday and have been trying to see how many things I can get sewn from them this week. I can get more, but want to have good ideas before I overwhelm myself with more fabric.
I love it! I just got 2 sample books with 60 9”x3.5” samples of vinyl in each book. I am going to make those zip pouches like you made with the opposite colors on them. For the solids you have, maybe you can do something like this - I made a rainbow stripe of 6 colors at 2” each, and used those for the sides of a zip cross body. I top stitched both sides of the seams to give a more finished look. I really loved the look of those, but not a real quick sew with all the seams and top stitching - easy but not quick.
Thanks Betty. The stripes are a great idea. I did a giant bag using 9 plain colours with a pleat at the top on each side. Still trying to sell those though😁
Looking at your pretty dress in the background, maybe you can do a solid top and a patchwork skirt put together out of a lot of those samples if they’re light enough
What an interesting idea Debbie. I'm not sure I'd cope with 4 hours of rock 'n' roll dancing in a dress that heavy. I might even knock over a few of the other dancers🤣
The bags turned out really nice! As for the hook, you could make a padded clothes hanger for knitware. I saw this on a different channel and quite liked the idea because it doesn't require lots of fabric. So maybe another good idea for some of your samples. Wish you good sales for the weekend! 😉 Lale 🇩🇪
Oh that's a shame. I've heard that in Europe they charge for the books due to the costs they have to pay for wastage. It's still a bit slack here in Australia, though some companies would rather throw things out than give away for free. Try sourcing fabric from upholsterers in your area😃
Hi Christine looking through your videos seeing your serger/overlocker have you had it for long , can it cope with the sometimes thick upholstery fabric you some times use for your bags . Have you had any problems with it like knives blades dulling very quickly , parts breaking ? Any make/model you have had in the past to stay clear from . As you make various style of bags/pouches from thin to very thickish fabric having your feedback on the durability on your serger/overlocker is vastly more interesting than someone who just only makes say dresses . Thanks .
I'm quite rough with most of my machines, but I do prefer older mechanical machines to computerised models. I've used mostly Janome overlockers, and haven't had any trouble sewing dresses, blouses, and then the thick upholstery fabric. The first two thousand bags were all done on domestic machines. The upholstery fabric did wear out the blades, but they were easy enough to replace. I used to sell Janome, Brother and Elna machines. Janome own Elna. I prefer Janome over anything else, but if I were to go back to domestic machines, I'd look for vintage machines. They might be heavy, but they're better and easier to maintain. I ended up moving to industrial on a whim, but I have to say, it's the best decision I've ever made. The speed is incredible, and even though I had the expense, the time I saved enabled me to be a lot more productive. Each of my machines had paid for themselves within 6 months of purchase. I keep a log book of the work I do on them.😃
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thanks for the quick reply as you say you can get an industrial say JACK E4S with the table all for £600 which as you know will chew through any material you can get under the presser foot compared to fancy double or even triple the priced domestics , but they are easier to thread with the air systems they have and watching you use upholstery material for some of your bags and purses DURABILITY IS THE KEY AND LONG JEVITY compared to say something with the press of a button threads the machine for you but will it sew the thickness of material that you uses for years , I don't think so as we are not talking dress making here , we are talking making bags , purses , wallets . Thanks once again .
Have you ever thought of making a shoe caddy? They're hangable. Eighteen to twenty two inches wide, by 4 ft, or 6ft., long with rows of deep pockets. One or two shoes can go in each pocket. Your smaller pieces, swatches, could be sewn together to make the pockets. Just ideas.
@@ChristinesHomeAffairsthank you. I watched this video again and got to thinking, we have a store that sells furniture fabrics. Maybe they have these books of fabrics. Also I may go to couple of auctions near by that sell by the lot . What do you think about using bed sheets for the material? Maybe the lining?
Confession.. I'm binge watching your videos since YT suggested your video yesterday! Love your content!!
Yay! Thank you! Hope you don't get too sick of me😀
That hook hanger thing would be great for a travel bag that folds up for jewelry or toiletries. I have always wanted to make one of those to hang on the back of the bathroom door when on vacation
That's a great idea Karen😊
Oooh I am so jealous! 80 metres of denim! Bag-making heaven.
haha, sure is😃
You're an inspiration Christine and your level of productivity is impressive. Genius fabric matching and style of bags, thank you for your time and expertise and for sharing this with us
You're so welcome Claire😁
Christine, I think you are Australia's most famous "bag lady."
haha. I remember in the 80's my good friend and I used to call each other bag ladies because we dressed in baggy clothes. Seems I'm the real deal now🤣
What can I say but you are a wonder and so lucky to get all that free fabric. Your brain must be constantly thinking of items and projects to make. Love your videos.
Thanks Janet. I am constantly thinking of things to make. I like variation in my life😁
Hoping you have good luck with sales in the coming week and always!. Love the bags!

Oh, thank you Esther😁
Beautiful fabric and the bags are pretty!

Those hooks may be nice in a hanging toiletries bag or a hanging organizer.
You have been busy making quick work of the new fabric.
That's a great idea JP😃

That's so cool Barbara. Thank you for sharing😊
I wish we had a shop like that around here.
There may just be one in a little shop nearby Arvetta. These were from a tiny little husband and wife upholstery business😁

Love those new samples especially the blue dots. Those are gorgeous!

Backpacks have been on my list Eve. One day I might even get to it😁
Lovely fabrics. I really need a hanging peg bag so would love a tutorial on that please.
Thanks Susan. I did a peg bag tutorial about a week ago. Here it is 😁 ruclips.net/video/yJGhFvMBDlA/видео.html
