    I do not think the vendor was trying to overcharge by tricking you guys.
    I think there were miscommunications and some counting errors on both parties.
    Rest assured, Korea does not overcharge foreign tourists as they do in other countries
    like in Southeast Asia. And the best part about Korea when it comes to spending
    is that all the taxes and tips are included in your bills at the restaurants, unlike the U.S. where the
    tipping culture is getting way out of control. Cost in Korea in general is not cheap
    but it's not as expensive as in the U.S. Luckily, there are no hidden costs and insane tips in
    Korea as I mentioned before. The best part about Korea though is safety. It is a really really safe country!!
    Enjoy your stay!!

      Yes something happened with miscommunication, no worries! We moved on from the situation pretty quick. Things happen. 😊 we love that about Korea, it’s so nice to have everything included. I think there's something wrong with the tteokbokki payment. The sign says it's 4,000 won for one meal, but the owner offered it to you for 2,000 won, probably because it's the last pieces, which might look dry and not so tasty. By the way, he put fishcake soup, not water, which looks completely normal. Everything seemed fine until this point. But I'm confused about why you paid 6,500 won. I don't think the owner tricked you based on how he behaves. It's more likely there was a mistake in your counting the money or a misunderstanding between you and the owner. I hope this doesn't make you feel bad.

    • @SJC-oj2je
      @SJC-oj2je 29 дней назад +8

      I watched the video again, and he clearly said 2,000 won and even showed it with his two fingers. Why didn't you discuss the price with the owner if you thought it was different from what you expected? I can hardly believe the owner would risk his business by cheating in front of a camera.

    • @ChaseandShelbs
      @ChaseandShelbs  29 дней назад +4

      He put up 2 fingers while speaking Korean so we thought he was asking if we wanted 2 orders but then we said we only wanted 1. We didn’t know he was saying 2,000 won. Either way we payed what we payed and moved on. 😊 We also double checked our money after and we counted correctly so a mistake happened. Oh well it’s okay there was just miscommunication.

      @@ChaseandShelbs You moved on, but the owner was featured in this video by a RUclipsr with 126k subscribers. I love your videos, but it would have been better if you had talked to the owner about the price instead of simply posting it here. If he was being honest, he might feel very frustrated knowing what is being discussed here.
      Recently, there was a national headline about an owner in Gwangjang Market, a very popular destination for foreign visitors, who provided a too-small portion of food to a RUclipsr. Although she didn't cheat on the price, the portion was too small. This kind of video can sometimes become big news in Korea because such incidents are rare, and Koreans do not want to mistreat visitors.

    25:55 That's rarely the case in Korea recently, because if tourists are rumored to have been ripped off, the branch gets a lot of social criticism. If someone charges tourists a rip-off fee, they will now have to get ready to give up their business. I think they misunderstood the unit of bills or they couldn't communicate well with each other.

    As a Korean, I'm sorry to hear that you were overcharged for a Korean food you were happy to try for the first time.😠 I'm wondering whether the tteokbokki vendor gave you a mix of coins and bills for the change. If he did, that would have been an indication that he cheated you on purpose, making it difficult for you to count the change. I hope that wasn't the case. Most Koreans, however, are polite and kind to foreigners, so you'll not meet many Koreans who treat you dishonestly, although there will always be exceptions. He probably thought you gave him a tip, regardless, yea the size needs to be a little bigger if thats how much it was but if not, yall need to start speaking to the vendors and make sure. Welcome to korea! Tteokbokki is one of the worst Korean foods. Originally, traditional tteokbokki (called Gungjung tteokbokki) was a royal dish made with rice cakes, nuts, and beef with a little soy sauce. But now Tteokbokki is made from wheat flour, not rice cake, and has turned into a spicy and sweet junk food.
    Actually, chili had been around in Korea since the late 1700s, but it was rare. It took off in the 1970s. Kimchi also had no chili in it.
