    Cissy Strut Bass Tab + Tutorial (The Meters)
    Hiyah!!! This tune by The Meters is an old favorite of mine. In this Cissy Strut Bass Tab + Tutorial video, we'll go through all the parts of the song with playalongs so you can get it under your fingers and capture that George Porter Jr. funk!
    I'll also address the most DANGEROUS part of this tune! You'll see what I mean when you watch the video. Those wascally guitar players…

    Guitar players, horn players, keyboard players also lol. I've played bass with Zigaboo since 2012 and it's a tune that a lot of people "sit in" and I'm not talking about novices. I recently uploaded a video of us playing it and you can hear the sax players adding in the extra notes while the rest of the band locks. They lock in tighter with the rhythm section later in to tune.

      Hey Ted, cool to hear from you! Sorry to hear that extra note has even made its way near Zigaboo, lol!

      lol we rarely play it honestly. Nobody bugs out on it. It's just one of those things. Lol

    Great tutorial! Especially the part in regards to not dropping 3 notes but only 2 for space. Little things like that make a huge difference for feel. As a drummer who plays bass your videos are a godsend for learning and education. Thank you!

    I'm a guitarist guilty of adding the extra note. I now stand corrected! Thanks.

    Great! At last, a genuine teacher and not just another frustrated and obviously bored virtuoso player. Teaching is a skill quite apart from playing so please protect me from those 'teachers' who can't help themselves breaking into complex and irrelevant riffs at every opportunity. Thanks again.

    Even professional players add the notes, even at the part John says guitarist add, on pt 2, many bass players add notes. However, the only one in the original that plays the extra notes is the Hammond player. 'Scott's Bass Lessons' admits to playing it wrong for many years until he delved into it and listened closely to the original.
    Thanks to guys like you, we can learn how it's originally done! :)

    Good job with the tutorial. You are right about the extra notes!! One of the bass players (Jazz guy) that I hired for my gigs would play the extra notes, even though I had it written like the original on the bass chart!! Probably he thought I had transcribed it wrong? LOL.

    Hi Josh, great transcription and great song choice ! Only thing is at 9 26 on the groove you play there are less notes rhythmically ( same pitch but different rhythm, not so many sixteenths). All the rest is spot on!

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  8 лет назад +1

      +Fabrizio Zidarich Hey Fabrizio, if you listen to the record, George plays that line differently almost every pass through, with slight rhythmic variations. I just picked one for this lesson.

  • @door4755
    @door4755 6 лет назад +1

    Dude good tutorial but even u added an extra note. In the “B” section u don’t actually play the fifth. It’s actually just a ghost note.

    • @PickleJar251
      @PickleJar251 5 лет назад

      So the second to last note, before hitting the root note (C) of the B section, should only be a ghost note instead of hitting the actual note (G)?

  • @josiahpaola5795
    @josiahpaola5795 5 лет назад

    The sheet music my band uses has the extra notes in it

  • @N0B0DY_SP3C14L
    @N0B0DY_SP3C14L Год назад

    You play it wrong in the B section. Look up the correct part. The real one is simpler than the way you play it. In the B section you only hit the G once in passing down from the Bb to the lower C. You don't play those last 16th's before the C. Those are played by the organ. You just play the C's and the Bb's until you play the one G as you descend. Hope this helps. Good luck.
