The sad thing is that Al Franken resigned due to pressure from Democrats who wanted to show that they police their own and thus use that to claim the moral high ground against Republicans..... and then the Republicans promptly didn't give a shit. So he got martyred for a cause that immediately and utterly failed.

@@jimmipadge Absolutely. I'm 100% of the belief that whatever happens in a politician's downtime between consenting adults is really none of my business, with the sole exception of hypocrisy (For instance if you voted to make mandatory minimums harsher for pot and then were caught smoking it yourself, or voted to make sodomy illegal and then were caught engaging in it etc), but aside from that exception I don't really care.

The saddest part here is what Al was saying about the judiciary. Trump, led by Moscow Mitch, has stacked the courts with far-right-wing partisan jurists - something that will have effects lasting for decades. McConnell would not hold hearings for federal judges nominated by Obama, not just Garland, leaving over 100 vacancies that have now been filled by Trump & McConnell’s Senate. It’s devastating.

Al's a comedian amongst other things. A professional comedian, and comedy is a dangerous business. Not all humor works. Al screwed up and made a bad joke, and his bad taste is inexcusable. But he has it in his blood to crack wise, and he made a mistake. Sexist? Yes. Is HE a sexist? No. It was a sexist joke and even worse he icommitted the sin of not being very funny. Not everything you do works when you do it day in and day out.
