What’s your thoughts on the severin black friday only release of four flies?
Also cauldron is releasing “city of the living dead* not house by the cemetery. (Sorry)
I'm feeling the regret for not getting that Four Flies 4K, but 60 was steep and I'm not 100% on board the Severin train just yet. Great haul and that Pulp Steelbook is nice!
It will most likely be sold again during next years Black Friday sale. They do it with The Blood on Satans Claw every year. Plus, they never said how limited it was so they gotta be making more
I don't mind it being known, I think this is a constructive conversation to have. Andrew from Severin hit me up and said they were going to discuss it more on the podcast and that "it's kind of a lot to discuss." I think the fact that a major label put out not one, but TWO, Argento films fans desperately wanted on 4K is awesome. But the price and misleading packaging images really soured me on it and plenty of others I've seen. I hope Severin puts out a cheaper standard so people can still own these if they want to complete Argento's work. Great video dude (whenever you do the Grandpa is a Vampire watchalong I'll be there, I was excited to see that one).
I thought Severin did a fantastic job on the Four Flies restoration itself. It's easily the best I've seen the film look (blows away the Shameless blu ray), and I even liked the packaging for what it was (comparable to a Vinegar Syndrome slip). But I do think they should've given us something more like a chunky, Arrow-style hard box for the price they were charging (or, like you said, charged us $40-45 instead). That said, I wasn't expecting a slipcase (even though that's what the listing said), because I had just purchased their Changeling 4K earlier in the year when they were charging a comparable price, and the Changeling came the same way as Four Flies -- just a slipcover, no slipcase or book. I do think Severin is a little overpriced for what you get, and I probably won't buy a whole lot of stuff from them moving forward because of this (unless it's something really important to me like an Argento release or some other title I really care about).
It did seem like it was going to be closer to an Arrow/Synapse hard box. Or minimum, closer to Severin's 4k release of BLOOD FOR DRACULA or even a Cauldron styled slip. SlipCASE in the product listing was misleading. I think for how it is.. 4 discs including a soundtrack I'd say 45 would have been a much fairer price. The product was in hand they could have posted an actual product picture.
Amazing haul CHH. I missed out on the Four Flies Set. I wished it hadn't been a Black Friday release, but a general one.
I felt the same way about Smile. It was good and happy with the success. I just wanted a better ending. I’ll def have to check out DeadPit’s Black Friday stream next year. I love some good sass lol.
For anyone who missed out on Four Flies----- you can actually still buy it directly from Severin. I emailed them a few days back and asked if they perchance had any copies left (a total shot in the dark). To my surprise they said they can sell it to me "privately". They then sent me an invoice. I paid it. They shipped it. I received it 3 days later.
I'm not sure why they're not authorized to just outright put it on their website? Very odd. But, nevertheless, I'm very grateful that I discovered the cheat code to pick this title up. I was broke during the black Friday sale. HaHa.
If anyone knows why Severin can sell it under the table, but not on their site, please let me know. Otherwise, just email them if you want a copy.
Yes, it's 55.00, but as a collector, this is most unfortunately a necessary evil. I pulled the trigger because I'm not so sure they'll release a standard edition.

The Four Flies 4k looks great. But it was super expensive and didn’t come with a book. How about something like Road House for the price?
I'm sure the higher price on that 4 flies release has to do with the Soundtrack more than anything. The second sight limited edition of The Guest was extra expensive for the same reason.
The promo art was definitely a little deceitful but at least the release looks stacked and the VS style slip is nice.
That being said, I'm so glad I didn't buy it because I was 100% expecting a slip box and I would be feeling wronged.

So did Four Flies On Grey Velvet come with a Blu-ray besides the 4K sixty bucks is a lot of money for one release these boutique labels need to come down on there prices it's getting to be too much This is one film I need from Dario Argento I missed out on getting the DVD when that came out I will have to wait for the standard release I remember when Severin released Combat Shock on Blu-ray and it was only on there website during a sale which really upset me and I didn't know about the sale I do own the DVD version of the movie

Another big reason beside the 4k disc
why four flies was so expensive is because the stupid cd soundtrack. Music rights is expensive and they make us pay for it. It’s annoying
I’m a fan of Four Flies but it’s definitely not my favorite Argento Flick. I hadn’t seen the film before but I watched it on RUclips before purchasing because it was free on there. 63 was ridiculous for it though, and I never would have paid that if I wasn’t so nervous that it wasn’t going to get a standard edition, so I didn’t want to take the chance since the only other version is the shitty Shameless Entertainment release. With that said, if it does I’m going to feel like such an idiot. It is a beautifully stacked release but that price was horrendous. It should’ve been like 40 tops
Kind of strange Severin couldn't come up with a Santa Sangre Limited type case. They are really cool people, so I will give them a pass.
