I remember having deep telepathic conversations with a black lab who walked right up to me and sat down at my feet up in the stands during the second set. Truly the weirdest day of my life. They played so beautifully. Jerry and his silver hair …. it was like being in the presence of Thomas Jefferson or George Washington that day. He was emanating incredible light and power.
@@sredtail He might have I don't remember. I grew up in Yakima and live in TN now. I think he said "You have a big nose like me but I love you anyway."
Great Seagulls! We've made it to the final Pick of 2022. Find out why Dave thinks Eugene, Oregon 6/23/90 makes for a real good time. Pre-order Vol. 44 here: store.dead.net/en/grateful-dead/music/daves-picks/?pdshow=true
Writing from the future, I have to say that 45 is not only the greatest DPs, but also one of the greatest shows the band ever did. The mastering on it is immaculate. Thanks for putting so much love into that release. I had forgotten that show.
I love Port Townsend. I remember in 95 cruising up the Olympic Peninsula between Vegas and the Seattle Shows to show my friends the beauty of that area. I told them we can just take the ferry from Townsend to Seattle, and it was epic. The Pacific NW is by far the most luscious, magical area of our country, and of Canada. Those were the days. Glad you get to experience it daily. I lived in Northern Humboldt County from the 90's-2000's but moved to the Bay Area due to my GF pursuing her career and it was based in San Mateo. Wish I would have stayed, but life throws you curves that in the end work out. I am happy now in the Tahoe area. But I digress......Thanks for choosing this show for your next release. What a tour to pick from. So many sources I have found have that cassette gen in them, so having a crisp version is boss. My favorite is the 2nd day of Dominguez, but that would be considered a one-off since it isn't really part of any tour. Thanks for all the hard work you have put in now for 2 decades, at least. We all appreciate your Dead-i-cation to the art. And if you like Stranger: Hear Dominguez, 5-6-90 and Cal Expo 6-9-90. My 2 favorite versions. Thanks again!
One of the many things I love about The Grateful Dead and being a fan of the band is the abundance of music out there to enjoy. The abundance of releases be they studio or live; official or bootleg is fantastic.
So happy for this legendary show. Jerry’s closing solo on Dew is one of my very favorites. Small tip: June 9, 1990. Quite possibly one of Phil’s greatest shows!
Noon shows are rare. I attended June 7-8, 1980 shows in Boulder which were also Noon. I’m a long time subscriber to DP series. So many great releases. I mark my calendar with release dates. My only regret is that I didn’t start in 2012. Thank you Dave!
I had the exact same thought! I love that intro…how it delicately & effortlessly slips from Jerry’s runs of notes into the opening chords of Eyes & the crowd response during those opening moments is pure bliss. I was at these shows & have audience tapes I still regularly listen to. Good stuff!
@@cshrine73 Yes! And Mickey is sort of setting it up with the tom groove and if I remember right there's a big Brent flourish and it's like ok we're going now....
My master cassette is on a TDK MA110 and I remember the couple of us in the section that had 110's felt incredibly vindicated because that worked out perfectly for the second set Saturday 6-23-90!!
I have never been disappointed by the Dave's Picks series, which is why I purchase the entire year and never have to worry about missing out as they sell out quickly ... just a Public Service Announcement!
I remember when I was walking around Port Angeles and when I ate that spicy ass burrito and nearly died. Good times! Next time come walking with me. There was that house covered in roses! And those doughnuts! Love your videos, Mr. Lemieux. You da bomb.
Autzen Stadium we did squeeze in with the beloved Keze onto Furthur, a magic bus carrying all of us. Spinning that phantom driving wheel he was the fastestmanalive, Cowboy Neal, but the days between like honey flowed across a lazy river road~ jk
What I did was download an average of 20 shows per year. And I put them on a USB stick, or even sd cards. All are excellent quality, and I even prefer audience recordings for alot of shows. The tapers always had great recording equipment. So far I have about 500 concerts, for FREE. 💖
I own all of the awesome Dave's Picks. I purchase the yearly subscription. My personal era is from 84 to 91, when I toured extensively. I'm really looking forward to you choosing 7/4/87, in Foxboro. Love the setlist...
Well, ok guys, I get it, I want your opinion to matter and it does, but from my little opinion, after the watered down dead starts, and don’t get me wrong, I like those other tunes also, but, I can tell, the best time was until they started writing for American beauty, and it dies. The wonderful expression gets jammed into that song mode stuff. Now, I am liking friend of the devil, or brown eyed women, or U.S. blues, or shakedown later on, or franklins tower stuff, uncle johns band truckin…….. all favorites. That to me is watered down dead. Pig last show June 16 1972 was the last Grateful Dead concert. Hollywood bowl. The new stuff was already integrated before pig left and Keith jams the keys, It is just never the same. Now some of the shows in 1974 are incredible. 1976 is also good, but still never the same and even Phil said after 1974 what it had been wasn’t around as much on stage with the interaction with jerry. The heroin had already taken over, the Cocaine …… etc. also, some of the songs dropped off the earth, a few songs that either never got played again or only for a quick review. The eleven, st. Stephen, caution, alligator, love light, midnight hour, mr, Charlie, viola lee blues(never got played again) , new potato caboose(never got played again) and a few others …….. songs that they found out didn’t make the people return and so the fan base didn’t build until the song format came in. All the psychedelic ranger years didn’t build a fan base so they changed some of the format. These were what they got started on and too me seems to be the years they had the most fun, and yet it strays away from what they said they were about, it changes. I like pain in my heart as well, all died with pig. Never again a harmonica player in the band. I like touch of grey, but it get old soon for me. I love all the jams too. And even the change to friend of the devil to the slow version,…… o god that’s awful. But, I listen because I do love the band and the meaning and the sound, there is no replacement. So, I like all your opinions, and they are real for everyone of you. You all like what you like. However, to me, these guys were all about 1966-1969 and it seems to me they had the most fun in these years. Also, 1970-71 is also really jammin. It’s just those regular songs show up and I like the eleven …. I liked viola lee blues. It’s like I am being told they are a psychedelic band but then they leave most of the psychedelic ranger music stuff behind. And really, they didn’t run on LSD as much as you think accept for those early years, later on they ran on cocaine. So, I am just putting my opinion out, I like your opinions also, and I also like cream puff, the original cold rain snow version, and golden road which they never played again, tells the whole story of the whole scene and everything come and join the party everyday.
Thanks Dave and the rest of the crew for all the great shows. 🎉🎉
Great job on the MSG box set! Can't wait for more music from '90. Keep up the good work!

That weekend at Cal Expo was primo
Yes, I found someone in agreement that 6-9-90 was the best show, of that tour. He was just off the hook during the Stranger.
YAY! So look forward to this!
Where do I get one of these Grateful Dead hoodies??
Love these, Dave. I just got to say the fact that Little Feat isn't in the R n' R HOF is a crime.
Also John Mayall. I guess they figure he hasn't been around long enough.

Psyched for this release. Between the Dave’s Picks, In & Out, and the 50th E72 Anniversary stuff, you guys crushed 2022. Thanks
Looks about the same here on the Sunshine Coast, BC these mornings. A little smokey and we were lucky enough to have some orcas swimming around. ;-)

Eugene, Oregon, the beat goes on. Love Oregon Dead through the years.
Nice view of Strait of Juan de Fuca.
I saw every Oregon show between 1980 and 1995 plus one in '77. We be grateful campers :)
